This is why mobile gaming content creators are getting flammed on all social media.
  1. Not everyone has 1000$ for a device dedicated for gaming

You are in the financial institution you are in because regular everyday people give you their attention and you turn it into money if they just don't outright give you money in subscription and other things. So no the average mobile gamers doesn't have a high end device and can't snap his fingers and make one appear. And you piece of shit just basically call them broke for not having a 1500$ ipad by saying: "just upgrade". They feel letdown because the peoples who should speak up for the average mobile gamer are ignoring them, in fact they're doing the opposite taking a company side and being outright elitist.

2. Even if someone happened to be given 1000$ for Gaming experience, their first thought will not and should not be warzone mobile.

the Xbox series x is 450$, the PlayStation 5 is also 450$ and the upcoming play station 5 pro is rumored to be between 499$ and 599$. 400$ less than the devices able to run the game halfway decently. Why on earth would anyone upgrade JUST for WZM when they can get a nex gen console with 4 or 5 AAA games for the same price? I mean, GTA 6 is coming out in a few months

3. If games like WZM becomes the industry standard it is the death of mobile gaming.

I'll take you back to point 2. Making game like this the standard put mobile gaming in direct competition with console. No need to elaborate on why the mobile gaming industry doesn't stand a chance in that fight (remember the PSP?). Why spend 1500 for an iphone to play a pixelated game and burn your phone to a crisp while you can be enjoying gta 5, gta 6, palworld, etc for cheaper and on a big screen. Those big CC are celebrating the "evolution" of mobile gaming and unintentionally setting their own industry up for failure. Mobile gaming is supposed to run on the majority of devices not only the top 10%, super expensive one. If you get this to become industry standard the point of entry to play competitive video games will be so high heck the point of entry to play wzm is higher than the one to play GTA 6 on the PS5 pro as we speak. Regular people choose their entertainment with their wallet and traditional gaming will always beat mobile gaming if this becomes the new normal. And the big companies you are sucking up to will kill your beloved game in a heartbeat the moment it's start struggling. And at the rate things are going, expect WZM to end up as tax write off to please Activision shareholders.

PS:

No people don't just hate on the game. They complain because they want to PLAY the game but can't at all or can't run it smoothly enough to have a good time.

No people are not able and have no reason to upgrade just for a single game when they could be doing so much more with that money if they even have that kind of money to spend on gaming

No people don't hate you for the sake of hating, they hate you because they know you are defending your bosses at Activision. They're calling you a sellout because instead of speaking the truth of what the vast majority of people are experiencing you are embellishing a failed game to stay in Activision payroll.

All of you are sellouts, and the community will remember that.

We don't need "pro" consoles or better PCs we need better optimized games

Just as the title says, if game producers just optimized their games and used all the hardware has to offer this "enhanced" consoles wouldn't be a thing, I obviously don't want all games to be writen in assembly like rollercoaster Tycoon, or like the original Super Mario Bros that is smaller than a screenshot of the game, a good exemple I found recently, Gravity Rush on the Playstation Vita is 1.4GB and the PS4 remaster is 9.2GB, I understand the game on the Vita is supposed to be compressed in order to fit on a portable device with lower quality textures and sound, but the PS4 remaster has 6,5 times the size of the original games, a big example of how things should be is GTA V on PS3 and Xbox 360, the RAM in this consoles were and 256mb and 512mb respectivily, the PC version of the games on minum settings require 4GB, pro consoles would be useless, if companies really used the hardware properly, I apologise for any mistakes I made while writing, english is not my first language, thanks for the atention.

Steam Deck or PlayStation 5?

I was thinking of buying a PS5 but considering that many PS5 games are coming to PC, I'm now leaning towards purchasing a Steam Deck instead. I have many games on Steam so I can play all of them on the Steam Deck. However if I buy a PS5, I'll need to purchase all the games separately again :(

Anticonsumption for gaming: old consoles

If you like gaming if might seem there's no way to mitigate the impact it has on the environment or its cost. Let me explain how an old console can be great for both of these things using my experience buying an used Nintendo 3DS XL.

Cost: This is the easiest part to understand. My Nintendo 3DS XL cost 800 BRL and then had a problem with the charging port, which had to be repaired for 250 BRL, quite expensive stuff. In total, it cost me around 1.100 BRL (I’m adding 50 bucks for transportation to the repair). Let’s compare that price to new consoles here in Brazil (prices are going to be obviously different if you live in places where new consoles are cheaper, like NA, JP or EU):

81% of the price of a Nintendo Switch Lite (1.345 BRL)

51% of a Nintendo Switch OLED (2.129 BRL)

50% of an Xbox Series S (2.200 BRL)

30% of a Playstation 5 Slim (3.600 BRL)

29% of a Playstation 5 Standard (3.700 BRL)

27,5% of an Xbox Series X (4.000 BRL)

(Keep in mind that the price for a Standard Playstation 5 may reach up to 5.000 BRL)

Of course you have to factor in the time cost of searching for good used consoles and potentially repairing it, but we also have to consider that new consoles have costs to buy games or sign in to subscription services. With old consoles you’ll be getting your games through what we will call legally-grey methods, so 1.100 BRL is all I’m going to pay unless I need to repair my console again. Compare this to buying a single game here for the PS5 (a cost that reaches 300 BRL) and you’ll see how old consoles are much cheaper.

Also, the Nintendo 3DS XL is a somewhat recent old console. You can find used Nintendo DSs with R4 cards or PSPs for 200 BRL on the internet.

Environment: If you buy a brand new of these, straight out of the box, it’s going to be better for the environment because it doesn’t need to be shipped from the other side of the planet or manufactured from the precious minerals the earth still has. It also doesn’t drive up demand because these consoles aren’t being manufactured anymore.

But buying used old consoles is the best option. Not only is the transportation going to be much shorter (I just had to go to the city center to buy mine), but you can also breathe new life into a system that would be throw into the trash if not used, avoiding the pollution caused by e-waste and the environmental cost of producing a new gadget and then transporting it to consumers.

Utility: Unlike a lot of cheaper and environmental-counscious practices, old consoles are incredibly easy and convenient to use. Used consoles are probably already jailbroken and, if not, jailbreaking them is incredibly easy, with a plethora of guides and programs you can use to homebrew your gaming machine on Youtube, Reddit and other websites.

Because of those vast homebrew options, they are incredibly useful to play games. No, you can’t play Switch games on a Nintendo 3DS, but you can play 3DS, DS, GBA, GBC, GB, NES, SNES, Master System and Game Gear games (that I know of. There might be more emulators that I don’t know about) all in the palm of your hands.

That said, you might be asking: Why not simply emulate on you PC or smartphone? There are some reasons for this, like: lots of people don’t actually own PCs and an old console is much cheaper than a PC strong enough to emulate these newer systems like the 3DS or a PSVITA; some of these consoles can be played anywhere because they are portable; and it’s much better playing games using actual buttons instead of touchscreens.

This doesn’t mean you should go out of your way to buy an old console. Consumption is still consumption and you shouldn’t spend precious money, time and natural resources to buy something you don’t need. What I’m trying to say is if you like gaming or want to get into it, consider buying an old console instead of dishing out the money for the newest, most impressive gadgets. Even 20 year-old consoles, like the Nintendo DS and the PSP, can play enormous libraries of games sure to be fun for hardcore gamers and people just coming into the hobby alike. Compared to new consoles, old consoles are better for the environment, you wallet and (in my opinion) your gaming habits. Like going to the library, you can’t have everything that’s available in the market, buy you can have a lot of very good, very fun, historically important things to read/play.

So, if you want to play games but doesn’t want to contribute to more e-waste and the hype cycle of the videogame industry (or if you simply don’t have enough money for that) consider buying yourself (or your kids, your S.O, your friends) an old console instead of a new one.

[Visions of Mana] Hands-on Preview - Megathread.

As the release of the game gets closer, the developers provided hands-on experience of Visions of Mana to multiple gaming sites:

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

IGN - Hands-on Preview

This brief look into what to expect from Visions of Mana paints an image of how exciting it has the potential to be. While it may seem like a scary change, the action-focused combat and the introduction of gameplay elements such as Elemental Vessels might be what the series needs to bring it back into the modern-day limelight.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Gaming Trend - Hands-on Preview.

I’m honestly impressed, even with some frame drops here and there. I had a delightful little experience and I hope the full game delivers. Are you excited for Visions of Mana? Any burning questions about it? Either comment or reach out to me on Twitter and I’ll answer it if I can! Visions of Mana launches sometime this Summer for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Thanks to Square Enix for giving us the opportunity to demo the game before launch!

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

RPGFan - Hands-on Preview.

When Square Enix revealed Visions of Mana, I was excited, because it’s been a long time since a new, full Mana game was released that wasn’t a remake or remaster. Square Enix repeatedly notes that Visions of Mana is the first new mainline game in the series in over 15 years, confirming it’s meant to be in the same lineup of games as Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, Trials of Mana, and Dawn of Mana. And given how people typically feel about that last one, it’s high time this mainline series got a game to raise the quality bar again. It’s far too soon to say for sure if Visions of Mana can accomplish that, but everything I’ve seen and experienced has me very optimistic about its chances, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the final release.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Press-start - Hands-on Preview.

All throughout my demo, it was hard not to be completely charmed by Visions of Mana’s lush and painterly aesthetic, with its sweeping vistas and intricate character designs calling to mind games like Dragon Quest, Eternal Sonata or, again, Tales of Arise. It’s a strong look that seems very accomplished in these small portions I was able to witness, so I’m excited to see more of this world come to life. Enemy designs are as adorable as ever as well, maybe so much that it was hard to want to fight them at times, and if you’ve been playing these games for a while it’s always nice to see classic creatures looking their absolute best.

So far, in at least the short amount of time I’ve been able to spend with it, Visions of Mana feels somewhat safe. That’s more praise than criticism though, with this preview having struck a nice contrast to the dozens of hours of Dragon’s Dogma 2 I’ve been putting in lately. It’s light, it’s breezy, and it’s got all the hallmarks of a veteran franchise. I can’t wait to journey to the Tree of Mana later this year.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Console Creatures - Hands-on Preview.

While playing Visions of Mana, I stopped and looked at the world Square Enix had built around these characters. I remembered my days on the SNES and how far video games have come since then. It is truly magical what developers can do with games, sending you to this fantasy world where you want to continue spending time. I never thought I would say I was excited about Visions of Mana when it was released in the summer of 2024, but here we are.

After playing the two demos, I’m sold that this is a day-one purchase for me, and I can’t wait to relive some childhood memories and now include my daughter in them.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Euro gamer - Hands-on Preview.

It's balancing old and new, then, and embracing a sort of breezy retro simplicity. Pleasing as that is, though, it so far feels a little shallow by comparison to other genre heavy-hitters. Despite moving to an open world and offering sumptuous presentation, Visions of Mana clings to the past and lacks truly fresh ideas of its own. It's a welcome return and a fun, bubbly, frivolous experience, but the Mana series looks set to remain in the shadow of Square Enix's premiere franchises for now.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Check Point Gaming - Hands-on Preview.

After just over an hour with Visions of Mana, I’m desperate to get my hands on the final build.

The combination of tight action-JRPG combat, beautifully vibrant visuals, and cosy fantasy world design makes this title feel like an old friend that I can’t wait to reconnect with.

Tom Henderson - Exclusive - More PlayStation 5 Pro Specs Detailed

Following this week’s leaks on the PlayStation 5 Pro GPU specs and performance targets, Insider Gaming has learned more PlayStation 5 Pro specs. For comparison sake, we’ll also include the specifications of the Standard PlayStation 5.

System Memory

Standard PlayStation 5 – 448 GB/s (14 GT/s)

PlayStation 5 Pro – 576 GB/s (18GT/s) – A 28% increase over the standard console.

Also outlined is that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s system memory is more efficient than the standard console, so the bandwidth gain may increase by over 28%.

CPU

The CPU is identical to the standard PlayStation 5, however, the Pro has a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode”, which takes the CPU to 3.85GHz – A 10% increase over the standard console.

In High CPU Frequency Mode, more power is allocated to the CPU and will downclock the GPU by around 1.5%, resulting in roughly 1% lower GPU performance.

Audio

The ACV in the PlayStation 5 Pro runs at a higher clock speed over the standard PlayStation 5, resulting in the ACM library having 35% more performance.

More convolution reverbs can be processed

More FFT or IFFT can be processed

GPU (Previously revealed)

Rendering 45% faster than PS5

2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)

33.5 Teraflops

PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution

Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version

Custom machine learning architecture

AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8 bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

In addition: 30 WGPs running specialised BVH8 traversal shaders vs 18 WGPs running BVH4 tranversal shaders on the standard PlayStation 5.

It’s also understood that as a means to make the PlayStation 5 Pro as “competitive” (not my phrasing here) as possible, it will have a detachable disc drive which will be identical to the latest iteration of the standard PlayStation 5, and 1TB of storage space.

Currently, the PlayStation 5 Pro is running on SKD 9.00, and SDK 10.00 is expected in Fall 2024, which is the current targeted release date of the console.

Hey everybody,

Before you'll start blaming me for buying an EA game, just hear me out.

I have never bought any FIFA game before, only played PES 16 offline. My only experience with FIFA was FIFA 19 which I played at a friends house. Now this Spring Sale on Steam, I was EA Sports FC 24 was on sale for Rs.699. To scratch my itch on playing Ultimate Team for the first time, I bought the game.

Now after installing it, I went straight into Ultimate Team and didn't bother with the Kick-Off and other stuff. But Opening Ultimate Team was a no go as it kept popping up an error saying “Connecting to Ultimate Team Is Not Possible at the Moment”.

I assumed that this might be because I have just started the game for the first time and this might be the issue with packages being still downloaded in the background which is common in modern games. But no, this has now been going on for 4 days now.

After uninstalling and reinstalling it for 3 more times, it kept saying the same issue again and again. A quick Google search was more than enough for me to confirm that this issue is on EA's side rather than my PC. Hundreds and Thousands of users are facing the same issue with many different forums being still open to this day being unsolved.

This issue is not related to a specific platform but is present in all consoles and PC versions. Whether it be Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or Windows PC. So saying that this is related to my PC only or it's related to the Pc version is out of the question.

You know what's more infuriating? EA has completely removed their Support and Contacts page regarding this to further run away from this issue. I was able to dig up a few old posts where a few users were able to chat and contact with EA help representatives. They said that it a fault on their side and are looking into it. This was a couple of months ago now.

Going to EA help doesn't even give you any Contact options. All it gives you is check this article out or go to this page for further information. This once I was able to contact the chat support, it literally did not give me a text box to chat. What is this bs?

Here's all the Troubleshooting I did from my side For EAS Sports FC 24:

  1. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game 3 times

  2. Reset my Router

  3. Connected via my mobile hotspot to check for internet issue.

  4. Allowed the Firewall to give exceptions to all EA related applications

  5. Changed my ethernet connection to other ports.

Now I am done with this bs. Removing the option to contact support was the lasty straw. I'll go to the Consumer court and try my best to get a solution from my side.

I know many of you'll be laughing at me on why I am going through all this drama for a mere Rs.699? This isn't about the money anymore now but more about the fact that EA knows about this issue and blatantly are removing all trace from it from their side to ignore the accountability.

Thanks for reading this huge post. I'll keep you guys updated if anything happens.

Bye.

Lego City Undercover: The Best Kid's Game Ever?

Tldr; Lego City is a silly light hearted game with an INCREDIBLE open world to play co cop with kids (or people who are new to gaming). Don't recommend switch version due to loading times and occasional crashes.

A year ago while researching a kid friendly game I could play together with my 2 sons, a 2 year old and a 5 year old, I discovered Lego City Undercover. I've never played a lego game before but they seemed to be praised highly, with Lego City Undercover being praised the most highly of them all.

Immediately upon starting the game you can immediately tell it's a silly and light hearted game; the title screen has clowns breaking out of a prison van and running around laughing, the loading screens have puns, and the opening cinematic is over the top and filled with cultural references. Once you're in the game you're greeted to a very colorful world filled with lego people, lego props that can be punched and destroyed, and cars that can be stolen and driven just like Grand Theft Auto. The kids and I were hooked.

I made a routine of playing the game once a week and going through a story mission with the kids, my 5 year old wasn't experienced enough to do it on his own, and my 2 year old wasn't confident enough to use the controller; he would always hand it over to me and say "help me daddy!" To my horror one day we logged in for our weekly mission only to discover that the 5 year old had deleted our game file! I was pretty upset considering we were already several months in at this point, and I told them I wasn't going to start over.

Fast forward to this year and I noticed the kids started playing it again on their own. Now the 5 year old is 6 and figuring out the the missions by himself, and the 2 year old is now 3 and is able to get around without any help. They asked me to play with them again and I agreed.

I found the story itself to be largely forgettable and unremarkable. This could be because the kids played a couple missions without me. You're Chase McCain called back to the city to help find an escaped criminal named Rex Fury, and you go undercover to try and find him. As I alluded to earlier the whole thing is silly, light hearted, over the top, and filled with cultural references. However as you play through the story you slowly unlock more of the city, and you unlock new undercover disguises that all have their own unique abilities that allow you to do activities you previously couldn't do, or access areas you previously couldn't access.

Post game is where the game truly shines in my opinion, and where I became hopelessly addicted. I'm already 75% complete and I might just go for 100%. It's such a joy just wandering around the city for hours looking around for secrets and collectables once you've unlocked all the disguises and abilities. The city is a massive and gorgeous open world split into different districts. Each district has it's own unique identity and they seamlessly transition into each other. One minute you could be driving around a district modeled after San Francisco, then find yourself driving around some farm land, and the next thing you know you're in district stylized after New York. There's various activities scattered around; my favorite one is finding a hidden pig, riding the pig to a cannon and stuffing it in there, and then pulling out a chicken and using it to crank the cannon and launch the pig. Despite being a kids game some of the activities present an actual challenge, such as time trials you have to complete in order to unlock new vehicles. There's a currency found everywhere you go called studs that you constantly collect. Between the constant collecting of studs, activities to do, and hidden secrets, and barrage of sound effects, top notch music, and colorful game world I find this game to be a never ending stream of dopamine. You can't die or lose in this game, so it's stress free. I've never used the term "cozy game" before but I think this one definitely counts.

The kids love it too. They love getting on and replaying their favorite missions, calling in different vehicles and driving around, trying out all the new disguises we've unlocked, going into character creator and customizing their own character, or helping me look for secrets or trying out some of the activities. And that's another place this game truly shines, is the co op! We both can just wander off and do our own thing, and at any moment just open the start screen, press "warp to player" and voila we're back together again, it's fantastic! I can't recommend this game enough to anyone looking to play a co op game with a kid or a partner who's new to gaming.

It hasn't all been sunshine and roses though, I must mention we are playing on the switch and the loading screens are atrociously long. Also the game crashes occasionally, ESPECIALLY when trying to summon helicopters. We are all too terrified to even attempt summoning helicopters, because there's a 75% chance the game will lock up and/or crash. If you play this game I recommend playing on xbox or Playstation to avoid these issues. You miss out on a couple Mario themed easter eggs exclusive to the switch but trust me they aren't worth it.

Lastly I find the controls to be kinda janky sometimes, which makes driving and platforming more difficult than it needs to be.

  • Daily XP Maximum: 420,000

  • XP earning rate: 30,000 XP per 15 minutes (maximum earned within 3 1/2 hours)

  • Daily XP reset time: 10AM ET (or, the same time as daily match quests reset)

  • Known bugs/glitches (as of 3/27/24): if doing in Main Stage, XP and level increases will not show on your screen until you return to the lobby.

Steps involved:

  1. Load into either Jam Stage or Main Stage (No Fill) Festival mode. (for Main Stage you do not need to choose any songs nor select "ready up" from the menu, just remain in the backstage area)

  2. Perform one of the following tasks:

  • 1A) For keyboard and mouse users:

  • Open the selector wheel for your jam loops (same button that opens emotes, you'll see the selector wheel in the same place) and play any one of them, switching instruments that you are playing at least once every 2 1/2 minutes or less using keyboard software (for example Razer Synapse) or a macro/key recorder. *I personally set mine to change instruments every 10 seconds just to be on the safe side.

** while to my knowledge and recollection there have been no documented cases of any bans related to using such software, with the exception of a single instance relating to the use of a community written macro, if you're feeling uncomfortable with this step or fear any possible risk, then I recommend the controller method**

  • 2A) For console and controller users:

  • Turn both analog sticks inward towards each other which will cause your character to run in circles, then, using a rubber band, string, or a cable, secure both analog sticks so as to maintain movement persistently. Just to prevent any damage to the sticks, or the internals, I would recommend just using enough tension on any band or tie to hold them in place, it doesn't have to be too tight to do that.

  • 2B) For Xbox users: if your controller is automatically going to sleep, remove the batteries and connect the controller to your console using a USB cable (unfortunately there isn't a setting to prevent this that I'm aware of)

  • 2C) For PlayStation4 and 5 Users only:

  • Perform the same task as in step B, but instead of securing analog sticks, while holding them and walking in a circle, (on PS5) tap the PlayStation button, which will bring up the bottom menu (or on PS4) press and hold the PlayStation button until the menu comes up. Your character on screen should continue to walk in a circle so long as you leave that menu up.

**** METHOD CURRENTLY BEING TESTED **** - 3) Repeatedly spamming the emote wheel either with a macro key bind or with a turbo setting on a controller (if you have a controller with that option)

PSA: Xbox 360 Marketplace Closure in 4 Months

Good afternoon, my fellow rockers. This is another reminder to everyone that the Xbox 360 marketplace closes in almost four months exactly on July 29. (I am posting this a day early as I will be off tomorrow, and probably won't online much anyway).

Here's what the closure of the Xbox 360 marketplace means. Pay attention, newbies.

  1. Once the store closes, you will not be able to buy any new songs for the Xbox 360 versions of Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Rock Band 3, LEGO Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band.

  2. Any song you buy on your Xbox 360 or through the website, marketplace.xbox.com, will show up as bought, downloadable and playable in Rock Band 4 for the Xbox One/Series X|S.

  3. It is unclear whether U.S. Track Pack codes can be redeemed on just an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One/Series X|S. Over the past month, I have seen posts offering conflicting information about this. Some people say they've been able to redeem these codes through their Xbox One, others say they can't. I don't know why there is a discrepancy or how to explain. Just know that this could be an issue if all you have is an Xbox One and you want these track pack codes.

  4. Rock Band songs and albums can still be bought through the One/Series X|S and through xbox.com. But that DLC will only work in Rock Band 4, even if they were originally released during the RB1-3 era. They will not show up on your Xbox 360 as being available to download.

  5. If you did accidentally buy older Rock Band songs on the Xbox One, you can buy it again on the 360 if you want to play it in the older games. Yes, you'd be paying for it twice, but the option is available.

  6. Certain DLC songs are needed for achievements in Rock Band 3, while other DLC songs can make it easier to unlock other achievements/trophies in Rock Band 1&2. I did a separate post on this, which you can find here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rockband/comments/1ae8aav/dlc_songs_for_achievementtrophy_hunters/

  7. The store's closure will not affect the console's online functionality. That means you will still be able to play online multiplayer in several different Xbox 360 titles, including Rock Band, Call of Duty or Gears of War. You will also still be able to re-download games and DLC you previously bought.

  8. Most Xbox 360-backwards compatible games can be bought through the Xbox One. That content -- like Dragon Age: Origins or Gears of War 2 -- is not going away.

  9. The Xbox 360 marketplace is available through the console itself, or through marketplace.xbox.com.

  10. The closure of the store means more than 220 digital games will disappear forever. You can find more details about those games here.

  11. This closure does not affect our fellow PlayStation rockers.

Do not dawdle if you're planning to buy songs. Now that Harmonix has closed the book on Rock Bamd 4, we don't know when songs might get delisted. We don't know how much advance warning we'll get, and how much it might crush our budgets.

We also don't know if Microsoft might close the store early if some technical issue arises.

For those about to rock, I salute you.

Lego AFK guide (PS4/PS5)

Now that it seems they have implemented afk detection in LEGO, I have done some testing, and wanted to write up some information on how to get around it best now, and hopefully in future. The first method can be used on any platform, the second possibly only on PS systems, or with external programs.

Shout-out to u/Harlow_Quinzel for providing initial testing and tips for these methods. He was the one that made aware of the PlayStation input lock (method 2), that could be important in the future.

Method 1 has now been tested for 3,5 hours continuously today, got all 5 levels.

**Making a sandbox world without hunger, enemies or lethality is quite crucial now, as they could all potentially stop the movement exploit you're using.

How to: Create New World > Game mode, switch from Survival to Sandbox > under advanced settings (scroll down) turn off: enemies, hunger, temperature, and ELIMINATION (death).** Now you can build everything, and nothing can hurt or your AFK'ing (except maybe lightning, touched upon at the end of the post).

Method 1: Launch Pad: All platforms, tested 3,5 hour in a row, all 15 mins gave xp.

The best method right now is to make a launch pad under toys, and bounce on that continuously. This is the best method right now, as it allows you to turn off your controller

Method 2: Input Lock: Probably PlayStation only, tested for 30 continuous minutes, both 15 min marks gave xp.

Note: Method 2 is more of a "if they fix method 1"-future solution, that will allow potentially a lot of ways to be afk, but not look afk to the detection system (if there really is one).

The second method you can use, which requires the controller to be on, that might circumvent if they stop us from using the launch pad bounce, is to effectively auto-run in a circle. This is possible without using rubber bands or the like on your controller.

What you want to do, is hold both thumb sticks (movement and camera) to the same side (both left, or both right). Then, depending on whether you're on PS4 or 5, press or hold the PlayStation button to bring up the pop-up menu.

  • On PS5, hold both sticks to the side, and press the PS-button.

  • On PS4, hold both sticks to the side, and hold the PS-button.

Holding or pressing the PS-button while doing in-game inputs (here, moving the camera and moving your character with both of the sticks) will lock the button inputs while you're on the pop-up menu of either system, and you can let go of the sticks. Your character will run in a circle on the game screen. It is important you don't just use this and run forward into the wall. If your character gets stuck and auto-runs into a wall, you WON'T get XP.

Note: make sure your power settings on your console and controller are set up to never let anything shut off or go into rest mode while doing this, and plug your controller into its charging cable, so it doesn't turn off or run out of juice.

Potential problems and possible workarounds:

There could be some complications for both of these methods, that I haven't had time to test yet: Lightning.

I'm not sure how the character reacts when hit by lighting when invulnerable, if it will push you away, or stop the auto-input from running in circles. However, I would guess that one could get around this by either making a big field of jump pads, maybe some high walls around to keep your character in the jump pad field (I haven't done much free building in Lego, so I don't know the limitations).

That, or make a big room that has a high ceiling and is big, as lightning can damage/potentially push you through the walls or roof if you're too close. So, a big room that you can run around in circles in the middle, (or jump pad jumping inside), far enough away that lightning hitting cannot push you.

I will try to test these methods for longer periods of time the next few days, and update if there's news. Hopefully some of you can give some input too, if you note anything with your own AFK'ing.

Which controllers give you the least issues with retro gaming?

I know when gaming on Windows, Xbox controllers either wired with a USB cable or the "adapter for PC" are the best way to go for compatibility reasons and to avoid the hellscape that is Windows bluetooth. Playstation and Switch controllers can often work through Steam, but it's a bit of a fight.

I'm getting into retro gaming now though, and I'm mostly doing it on Linux computers, and I'm about to finish setting up Retro Pie on a Pi 5. I often see the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller recommended as well as the SN30 Pro Bluetooth controller. What I want to know is, how much of a battle is it to get bluetooth controllers working? I tried getting a switch controller a DS5, and an Xbox One controller to work on it, and the only one that was really not a fight was the Switch controller.

Are the 8bitdo ones any better? Or should I just stick with what I already have and try to get enough USB ports on the Pi 5 to plug them ALL in with cables?

REVIEW [No Spoilers]

Well, I'm back, as promised! Just want to say thanks to all those who participated, I found it really fun and appreciated all the suggestions. Discovered some great looking games!

And now, for those of you who care, here is my review of the winning choice... Disco Elysium!

DISCO ELYSIUM

First off, full disclaimer, I have not finished this game. When I gave myself 48 hours to return with my review, I suppose I was opening myself up to the possibility of a game that would be too long to finish, and here we are. Either way I have played a good chunk and I can but offer my thoughts so far.

This game is fantastic.

I knew I was going to like it about 5 minutes in. This game manages to simultaneously feel like a breath of fresh air whilst warmly reminding me of classic games such as The Longest Journey or Syberia. As a new age adventure game though, what I find it has achieved masterfully is the ditiching of pixel finding and inventory puzzles with the most fleshed out dialogue system I think I have ever come across.

This dialgoue would mean nothing though if it weren't for the writing which I find hard to fault. It lends itself to be compared with literature as opposed to other video games, and I think that is the highest praise I can give it.

It's a visual and interactive medium though, not a book, and coupled with the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, that is omnipresent yet understated, is a delightfuly rustic and unique artstyle. The sprites may be relatively basic, but the character art and general mood fills in any percieved graphical blanks.

As mentioned, I haven't finsihed the story so I can't give an officail final reating, but this game just oozes atmopshere. It's a game to get lost in, and that I am.

This was really fun, and if it's allowed and people seem to want to join in, I'd love to do another one of these, but maybe I should give myself a week! Thanks again, all!

EDIT 3: And the winner is... u/DutchEnterprises with DISCO ELYSIUM!, and as you can see, I've just picked it up cheap on GOG! I'll report back in 48hours. This pick honestly looks great, but I love to delve deep into these sorts of games so I might not finish the story in time but I'll have played enough to give some solid impressions. Thanks again, everyone!

I’d love to be wowed by some wondrously unique suggestion so I don’t want to limit you in many ways. So just the following…

The rules:

  1. I’m not playing a porn game. Go to horny jail.

  2. PC or PlayStation only.

  3. I’d rather not play a “joke” game for the lolz.

  4. If I’ve already played it, I’ll let you know and you’re welcome to suggest something else.

Thank you for any suggestions! :)

EDIT: Love all the suggestions so far! Thank You! I’ll probably let this thread run an hour or so more then check back for the winner! Can’t wait!

EDIT 2: Overwhelmed by the response here. This is awesome! Nearly time to pick a winner. Nearly!… Anybody have thoughts on where to post my review? If not I’ll just post it here in a couple of days on a further edit.

Critic Reviews

AltChar - Semir Omerovic - 80 / 100

In a nutshell, South Park: Snow Day! is a great game that offers plenty of the classic South Park humour on top of engaging and fun combat and an interesting main story. While it's quite short and strongly focuses on co-op which some may find as a drawback, I still think it's worth the 29,99€ price point.

Atarita - İdil Barbaros - Turkish - 60 / 100

While South Park: SNOW DAY! is a South Park product with it’s humor, story and character dialogues; the game itself unfortunately lacks this quality. If you're not a South Park fan, this game will appeal to you at first, but after a while you might get bored as if you've been buried under the snow.

CGMagazine - Zubi Khan - 7.5 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! successfully translates the flat, construction paper aesthetic of the show into a fun, modern 3D co-op action title priced appropriately for the amount of content available at launch.

COGconnected - Rhett Waselenchuk - 69 / 100

South Park: Snow Day by no means lives up to its predecessors. Still, it manages to be worthwhile for those invested in the franchise.

Checkpoint Gaming - Victor Tan - 8 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! brings a snow day to life by letting children direct power struggles between nations. The trademark humour of the series returns, making you laugh every step of the adventure. A robust combat system helps you coordinate with your allies while encouraging exploration and taking advantage of your environment. Even if you are alone, AI bots are trustworthy allies who do their best to help. Upgrades are also handled nicely, giving you a variety of playstyles for your character. While chaotic combat and satire might not be for everyone, this remains a solid game to play with others.

Digital Trends - Giovanni Colantonio - 1.5 / 5

South Park: Snow Day! brings the cartoon’s up-and-down foray into gaming full circle. The co-op adventure underwhelms with sloppy action, repetitive combat, and a poorly implemented roguelite structure. Fans of the show’s first few seasons may get some laughs from its throwback humor, but the fun setup gets flushed down the drain like Mr. Hankey.

Downtime Bros - Sam Harby - 5 / 10

If you enjoy fighting endless waves of enemies in simple combat, then there might be something here to enjoy. But for most, South Park: Snow Day! is a decidedly skippable spin-off game, even if you’re the most diehard of South Park fans.

GGRecon - Joshua Boyles - 2 / 5

What’s unforgivable is that, at its core, South Park: Snow Day! isn’t remotely fun to play. Its combat and progression systems aren’t engaging, and only the most hardcore of South Park fans will find a glimmer of hope in the bulletproof humour that’s borrowed from the cartoon.

GameGrin - Alana Dunitz - 9 / 10

South Park: Snow Days! This game is full of humour and personality, combined with great visuals and music. It's so much fun to play!

Gameblog - SutterCane - French - 6 / 10

South Park Snow Day could have been one the worst games of this iconic series, but it's not ! If you like the humor and you're cherish all these characters, you could have an enjoyable moment alone, or with friends. Playing this game in co-op eliminates this feeling of artificial difficulty. The experience feels a little bit old, but there are cool elements like playing cards. Give it a shot if you love South Park and don't expect a great game.

Gamer Escape - Justin Mercer - 6 / 10

South Park: Snow Day!’s most prominent issue is one of fundamentals. The game’s namesake is very much intact and handled exactly in the way you would hope as a fan of the show, but the meat and potatoes of the actual gameplay leave much to be desired. Its humorous, surprisingly robust roguelike elements and attention paid to its source material simply aren’t enough to offset the detriments to its simplistic combat and repetitive structure.

GamingTrend - Adam Moreno - 85 / 100

If you love South Park, this will be the best $30 you could spend to have another adventure with all your favorite characters. With a completely different game style than the most recent South Park games, Snow Day! gives you five chapters of the main story totaling 5-6 hours, side quests that can be done more than once on multiple difficulties, and plenty of cosmetics for you to unlock. Solo play gets a little difficult during the ending of the story, but with friends, it should be an enjoyable time for all!

God is a Geek - Chris White - 7.5 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! is a pretty good roguelike with tons of different cards to make each run feel different, complete with that SP humour.

IGN - Travis Northup - 3 / 10

Aggravating hack-and-slash combat and surprisingly sparse jokes make South Park: Snow Day! dull, toothless, and a big step in the wrong direction for South Park games.

Nintendo Life - Jaimie Ditchfield - 4 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! has a lot of potential with some of its roguelike-inspired mechanics but ultimately fails to deliver an engaging experience whether you're playing it solo or in co-op. Combat feels unresponsive, the technical issues are numerous (on Switch at least), and the writing is some of the weakest in the series.

PSX Brasil - Vanessa Ferreira - Portuguese - 70 / 100

It doesn't make as much of an impact, but it offers what is needed to entertain.

Push Square - Ken Talbot - 6 / 10

A sporadically fun co-op brawler, South Park: Snow Day is a step back for the franchise. Card collecting and gag-filled combat will keep fans entertained, but there are plenty of better ways to have good times with weapons.

Shacknews - Sam Chandler - 8 / 10

Quote not yet available

Slant Magazine - Aaron Riccio - 2 / 5

Despite being occasionally funny, the game is never fun.

Spaziogames - Marcello Paolillo - Italian - 7.1 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! sets aside the RPG elements of previous titles, in order to offer a multiplayer action game with pronounced roguelike mechanics, unfortunately quite repetitive in the long run.

The Beta Network - Anthony Culinas - 7 / 10

While it may not be as riveting as its turn-based contemporaries, South Park: Snow Day! showcases an enjoyable 3D action battle system built for 4 players online, combined with the iconic comedic writing of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The Nerd Stash - Patrick Armstrong - 8 / 10

A third-person roguelike brawler that celebrates immature humor and co-op destruction.

TheSixthAxis - Nick Petrasiti - 6 / 10

After the successes of both Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole, South Park: Snow Day! is a big change of pace that left me with mixed feelings. It's an enjoyable game with some nice ideas, but at the same time, you'll be left wondering was this it?

Thumb Culture - 3 / 5

The jokes were funny, and the game does play really well with no glitches. But (and this is what hurts the most), the game overall just isn't long enough. I managed to finish the game in just over two hours. When completed there was no real reason to keep on playing.

The game lacks anything for the player to work towards. If players enjoy collecting trophies, they can add some longevity that way.

Try Hard Guides - Erik Hodges - 7 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! bravely departs from the series’ previous installments, offering something new and interesting as well as a continuation of a beloved story for fans. While the plot is interesting and full of that usual South Park charm, fans might not find too much of a reason to engage in the game’s intended replayability, with the game clocking in at a short but satisfying 4-5 hours.

VideoGamer - Antony Terence - 5 / 10

Snow Day’s moment-to-moment slapstick humor and inventive combat are undermined by unfulfilling progression and an acute lack of content.

Worth Playing - Cody Medellin - 7.5 / 10

South Park: Snow Day! is a good South Park game, but it's just a fine one when viewed without the license. The action is good, as is the inclusion of roguelike elements, but the camera distance can make the gameplay feel cumbersome. The inclusion of multiplayer is great, but the lack of local play is disappointing. While the different card combinations and level elements add some replayability, the presence of only five stages make the game feel short; the disappointment is lessened by the lower-than-expected price tag. It's a fun game, but you'll want to temper your expectations.

Questions for a paper I'm writing about this game

Hi ya'll, I'm currently writing a paper on "Shadow of the Colossus" and its fan community for an American Studies in Gaming class for college. I wanted to present some questions for those in the subreddit if they wanted to answer. Your participation will be greatly appreciated!

  1. When did you first hear about this game?

  2. When did you play it or watch a playthrough of it?

  3. What version did you play it on (i.e. PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 HD release, PlayStation 4 Remake)?

  4. Which of the versions above did you prefer the most?

  5. How many hours have you spent on the game whether it be one playthrough or multiple?

  6. Have you tried and succeeded in getting all of the PlayStation trophies on a version of the game?

  7. If not, what other incentive keep you wanting to replay the game if you do?

  8. Have you found any secrets in further playthroughs?

  9. Finally, what does this game MEAN to you?

I know these are a lot but I would greatly appreciate it in understanding how fans and players interact with the game. It's a fantastic game and replaying it for a previous paper regarding the mechanics helped me appreciate a lot more!

Several limited games title preorders from LRG and RAG currently on Best Buy and/or Amazon - March 2024

**Edited from a list to a table.**

Since some people seemed to appreciate this post a few months back, I thought I'd make this a recurring thing that I'll try to do quarterly, but will ultimately depend on life. I am trying a few new things this time around including adding product links and release dates. If you all have any feedback on what I should add, remove, or reformat for this, I will try to incorporate it if feasible.

I was flipping through Amazon's (AM) and Best Buy's (BB) preorder sections and saw a few titles that seem to be new or that I didn't see mentioned before and thought I'd put them all up in a list for those people who don't want to pay the shipping fee of buying direct from LRG and/or RAG.
