Like others have said, anger can be a healthy response. The important part is how it manifests. Anger at the hurt you've been subjected to, anger at the people in your life that failed you when you needed them, those are healthy forms of anger. You just can't let it consume you or define you. It's like a flame, a small controlled fire can keep you warm through the dark but feed it too much and it'll burn your house down.
Dwelling on anger and hate will rot you from the inside out over time. I think that's why so many men fail in regards to their anger. Their taught that anger is the only emotion they're allowed to express. So they wallow in it and drown themselves in anger until it is all they are.
Anger is important. It helps you draw boundaries against people who are trying to take advantage of you. Anger can motivate you to make positive changes in your life if you harness it in the right way.

This post is such a fairy tale. If he’s really been in these kids’ lives for TEN YEARS and they feel no connection to him he must be a pretty crappy stepparent. This story is unrealistic. Either he’s left out a huge chunk of the story or this is a creative writing assignment.
