July jobs report: US labor market adds 114,000 jobs, unemployment rate jumps to 4.3%

All landings seem like "the softest in history" until they aren't. Now's about when people start getting complacent.

As a landlord I remove and replace the wax rings on a regular basis. If it's loose at all, the toilet comes off, floor is cleaned underneath, and then I put it all back together with a fresh ring. What's more disgusting to me is having places I can't quickly get to for regular cleaning and maintenance. You should be cleaning under your toilet every so often just like you would with your stove or fridge or dishwasher.

The definition of insanity

In this case we really just need to give the Palestinians land or citizenship in another state. The problem is no one in the Middle East wants to give them their land or give them citizenship. The one country that's actually done their part in housing and repatriating this population faced a rebellion as a result.

So the conflict drags on in perpetuity with the Palestinians attacking Israel and Israel periodically going to war with them to keep the organization neutered and in check. Then Iran donates more arms and builds the organization back up again and Hamas "gets revenge" for the last war starting the cycle anew.

You would be amazed at how lazy some people are. I'm a landlord and you wouldn't believe the stuff people just abandon or leave behind. I've gotten everything from nearly new Trek aluminum frame road bikes to a full rave sized speaker system (actually PAs and speakers seem to be a favorite for abandoning) to vintage teek furniture from famous MCM designers to a 25lbs tank of AC refrigerant worth $400 new. I'm on this subreddit because we accumulate so much metal junk in the course of cleaning out and managing my buildings that it would be stupid not to scrap it. But we always go for the sale first. It's so easy to toss it on marketplace and wait to see if someone shows up with cash.

Iran’s Leader Orders Retaliatory Strike on Israel, NYT Reports

The salient point here is that Israel apparently can fly F-35s unimpeded through Iranian Airspace and destroy targets at will. Not sure how escalatory you want to get with a regional power that apparently already has air superiority and they aren't even at war with you.

Can permaculture help us to grow food in otherwise non-agricultural lands this century?

They could farm more in harmony with nature. For example, huge amounts of wild rice grow in the marshes and lakes of Canada. It would be possible to manage this crop and increase yields for human consumption.

Adding "Ukrainian drones lying in wait in the long grass at Russian missile truck bases like geese do a 'birdstrike' on a Tu-160" to my card.

Best part is they don't even need to waste explosives, they can just attach a little fasces of titanium scrap to the bottom. You could even have like a dozen of them all controlled by one operator and programed to rise up simultaneously in a single "flock" of eat-shit-and-die right at the end of the runway.

Would have helped, but maybe not enough to totally stop this mess from happening.

How do americans make so much money?

You don't understand chance then. It's a matter of the law of large numbers. Hard workers, persistent people really, know that doing things is how you get more rolls of the dice. If you spend more time trying, you win more often. And the cool thing is, everyone has the same resource: time.

The more time you spend doing something the better at it you get. The more times you try something, the more likely you are to succeed. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" in action. By working more and harder you not only roll more dice, but you get better at rolling them increasing the odds every roll.

Or for a Monty Python reference: I know more than one extremely successful person who was told they couldn't build a castle in the swamp. So they built a castle in the swamp anyways. That one fell over and sank into the swamp. So I built another castle. That one burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp. So they built a third castle, and now they have the strongest damn castle in the land.

How do americans make so much money?

Luckily money is easy to come by if you work your ass off. You could literally just start working in construction and learn how to do the work. Live with a parent or a relative to save money. Spend nothing on yourself for a few years. That's enough to save up a nut to start a business with.

Most people are simply unwilling or too undisciplined to commit to basically being a hermit and grinding for a few years.

How do americans make so much money?

I started with almost nothing. Saved the first $5k I earned living in my aunt's extra bedroom for a few months. Used an FHA to get a 2 flat with and illegal third unit in the attic for $140k in Logan Square. Renovated the attic and lived there while renting out the two legal units for $800/mo each. My mortgage payment was $1200 and I was living for free and making $400 a month. I was working at a $38k a year admin job and just rolled every spare penny for 5 or 6 years straight when it was like shooting fish in a barrel buying residential properties.

Now I've worked my way up to loft warehouses and commercial tenants. And the only help I got from my parents, aside from them being awesome parents who prioritized our educations over their personal gratification, was labor. My Dad was actually unemployed for 5 years during the recession and would come down for weeks at a time to help me paint, hang drywall, change light fixtures, frame a wall, whatever.

It's possible to achieve success with pure hard work and persistence. You make your own luck and many of us did that without daddy's money.

Isn't renting supposed to be cheaper than owning? What happened?

Also $900/mo mortgage payment gets you like a $150k house Diane. Where you going to find that? Also do you have $30k for a down payment Diane?

New Holland Load

Loading on actually level ground has the same effect. Pointing a truck downhill and then loading downhill? Worst idea.

What happened here was he lifted the drive wheels off the ground with the extreme leverage of all the weight at the back of a very long trailer. If your vehicle is in park, the only thing stopping it from moving is the drive wheels. The front wheels of a rear wheel drive vehicle are still free spinning.
