Finally booked a gynecologist appointment after avoiding it for years. I wanted to speak with someone about my excruciating menstrual cramps, recurring bouts of BV/yeast infections, and wanted to switch back to my old brand of birth control. I thought that would be simple enough.
When I got into the exam room, I explained why I was there, and then told the nurse practitioner (of course I didn’t even get a doctor) that I did NOT want a Pap smear.
I was raped last year, and the rape itself was obviously traumatic, and then getting the rape kit was almost equally traumatic, and when I’ve gotten paps in the past they always fucking hurt. I explained all this to the cold, unemotional nurse but she did not care.
I really thought that we as patients were allowed to decline things we weren’t comfortable with lol.
Nope. She absolutely refused to do the pelvic or breast exam without a Pap smear. She was obsessed. She said she “didn’t feel comfortable.”
I do not understand why she couldn’t have given me a pelvic and breast exam just minus the Pap smear. Like why?
Of course I was a Karen about it and spoke with the supervisor and she did indeed agree that I had a right to decline the Pap smear. But then she asked the nurse and the nurse lied about the situation and made me out to be a psychopath.
I was so triggered and upset. I woke up this morning finally thinking I was going to do something good for myself and my health. Thought maybe I’d find solutions for issues I’ve been dealing with for years. Nope. And fuck me for even trying.
