PPMI Karawang Protests Against Two Companies

Solidaritas.net, Karawang – After opposing PT. Shinto Kogyo Indonesia last week, the labors who unite in Branch Representative Council (DPC) of Indonesian Muslim Workers’ Brotherhood (PPMI) Karawang Regency held demonstrations toward two companies. Along with the same goal, to fight against injustice occurred in both companies that located in Karawang Regency, West Java.

The action had been starting from 09.00 WIB. The total 200 members were coming to PT. Bangun Perkasa Adhitama Sentra (BPAS) – which produces boards made from cement as a replacement of plywoods, namely GRC (Glassfibre Reinforced Cement) Board – located in Raya Klari Street, Karawang. The labors demanded the management of PT. BPAS to rehire their member, Dadan.

“First, to PT. BPAS regarding unilateral Termination of Employment (PHK) to one of our member, Dadan, who considered disadvantageous by the management of the company. We are here striving for Dadan, as he can be rehired by the company,” said the Vice Chairman of Missionary Sector for DPC PPMI Karawang, Tholib to Solidaritas.net, Wednesday (10/06/2015).

According to the man that usually goes by Uthol, the management of PT. BPAS had terminating Dadan as he had broken one of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which inflicted on deprivation for the company. To resolve this, the management of PT. BPAS had willing to accept a representative of the labors. They then promised to reconsidering and have another discussion in the meantime.

“The management will be reconsidering and have further discussion with us in the meantime. But the date has not been decided, yet they promised to arrange it next week,” Uthon continued explaining.

After the action held over PT. BPAS, the labors continued their demonstration to PT. Sinar Wira Tehnik in KM 4 of Raya Kosambi Curug Street, Klari. The second action has done concerning the unclear employment status. Beside that, they have been paid lower than the minimum wages of government’s standard and have not gotten health insurance. In this following action, the management of the company has promised to work on these matters.

“We will keep on watching this issue until there is an explicit result and decision. As long as the Law of Manpower is broken by capitalists, we will attack it straightaway,” added Uthol.

The demonstration ended around 14.00 WIB. There were rumours that the labors will be confronted by civilians and NGO which suspected to be served by the party who displeased with DPC PPMI’s movement. However, Uthol as the man who works for PT. Supravisi Rama Optik said, their action had gone well, although they were under a strict guard from the local police unit.
