EBMM really drop the ball with the naming. The bass in picture is a Made in America bass, model name Sterling. Basically a Stingay, but it's a bit smaller in some aspects and has a bit hardware (compared to a regular Stingray) but I hear they are fantastic basses and many prefer them. It however has nothing to do with the "Sterling by Music Man" basses, which are the cheaper asian made licensed versions.
The name originates from Sterling Ball, the son of Ernie Ball. Sterling Ball is the current CEO of Ernie Ball. So he borrowed his name to both this smaller size model as well as the cheaper asian models.
But a real Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling, like in the picture, is a great bass to pick up. A lot of "Sterling by Music Man" basses are too, but they come in so different price ranges that you cant generally compare 200usd basses with 1500usd basses, but they sure have both.
And yeah, like the others mentioned. Music Man is the company that Leo Fender had, it was later bought by Ernie Ball, so thats how it became Ernie Ball Music Man. Then as I described above, Sterling (Ball) was added in to the mix both as a name for a single model as well as the entire asian import bass family
