Welcome to Tezos : introduction and references for newcomers on r/tezos

Tezos in a nutshell

Secure smart contracts : the process of formal verification, based on Michelson programming language, provides the mathematical proof of the correctness of the contract (https://wiki.tezosagora.org/learn/smartcontracts/michelsonandcoq), that can be verified automatically. It is the golden standard of "trustless" guarantee in a blockchain system.

Participative governance : "bakers" (see below) can vote on a proposal or submit a proposal thanks to a very efficient on-chain formal voting procedure (https://www.tezosagora.org/learn). By extension, all Tez holders can express their opinion by delegating their Tez to a baker that shares the same view on a given subject (to consult the voting history of a given baker, click on a baker from the https://tzkt.io/bakers/all list then access the "voting" tab).

Upgradeable without forks : Tezos formal on-chain governance model has already allowed for 7 smooth, successful upgrades of the Tezos protocol and lets Tezos stay on top of innovation (https://twitter.com/tezos/status/1423588645785776129). This is a major advantage over other blockchains and gives Tezos the ability to quickly incorporate proven features of other chains (like saplings : https://tezos.gitlab.io/alpha/sapling.html) or innovate with homebrewed upgrades (like liquidity baking : https://tezos.gitlab.io/010/liquidity_baking.html).

Energy-efficient : POS requires significantly less energy than POW, and Tezos is one of them (https://wiki.tezosagora.org/learn/baking/tezos-energy-consumption).

Tezos WNO: Gordon vs Pena results and discussion
false

I’ll be updating this body with fight results and observations as the night goes on, for those who can’t watch and wanna get the dirt. Starts at 1930 EST.

1930 check in, still a waiting banner on Flo. I’ve gotten to see some commercials now as well, so I’m really happy with my paid subscription working that angle.

Holy shit they’re just spamming the same McDonald’s commercial.

1950 check in, Starting to get irritated with the lack of update or anything. Same banner and ads. Boo, Flo, boo.

2005 checkin, new banner that has a 25 minute countdown window in the upper left. Goddamn it. This has now turned into a pre show, narrated by Tim Kennedy. 20 min on the counter.

Gordon giving his best “Between Two Ferns” audition on that interview set.

Ok 2030 and it’s four announcer types, I think one is Caio, I’m not that into faces. They are now calling this the pre show. Remembrances for Lo. Back to waiting banner, Countdown at zero. Ads sprinkled in, motherfuck.

Mat space looks great, ground-ish level with fans in stands on sides. Sound is fucking terrible on the announcers, the echo is like a bad BJJ Fanatics production.

First match is baby shark vs giant slayer. Rawr. Probably in 30-90 minutes at this rate.

Poor announcer girl’s hair is all over the place. Announcer dude next to her looks like he has a rash guard on under his suit. Ready to go, niiice.

Ok that was long. 2113, announcer on the mats finally talking, I imagine first match starts soon.

2117 first match is on, 15 minutes. Diogo Reid vs Estevan Martinez. Diogo playing tight on top vs estevan. Diogo to the back and then tried to crucifix/kimura and Estevan escaped. Estevan on top now. Quickly swept. Now 7 minutes left, Diogo clearly the better fighter here. He’s allowing none of Estevan’s usual movement and staying in dominant spots. To the back at 5 minutes. At about 2 minutes Diogo gets a nice takedown to a good head and arm attempt, but can’t finish it. Diogo wins by decision.

Ramirez vs Andrey started at 2142. 15 minutes. Huge throws from Andrey. Ramirez looking game but outstrengthed. Ramirez finds a nice shot on an outside heel hook, Andrey didn’t like it but escaped. Andrey back on top with less than 7 to go. More control from Andrey, Andrey by decision.

Couch vs J-Rod, Couch with a kimura to the top and a good attempt but Jrod able to escape back to bottom mount. Los or head and arm looks and couch dominant from mount, win by decision.

Bia Mesquita with a nice darce attempt. Clay with some crazy flexible guard work and some good leg entanglement/attempts; Mesquita wins via unanimous decision.

Mica Galvao with the sub win, dominated the 10p guy.

Lovato loses to Meregali via decision. Meregali looks to be the real deal, and Lovato isnt’t looking like he’ll get past the second round in his ADCC bracket.

And after almost 45 minutes of effort, Pena taps to…aggression? Exhaustion? Ryan wins via verbal stoppage from Pena.

After rewatching today: I saw some good takedowns by Ryan, some interesting 50/50 from Pena, but it still looks like ultimately Pena gassed and called the fight. Definitely not GR’s sexiest work, and props to Pena for trying to stick through it despite the loss of Lo. Peña impressed with his ability to not be completely dominated, as many expected to see.

Feel free to discuss matches and share thoughts in the comments.

RIP Leandro Lo.

The Tezos Ecosystem Career Fair!

https://preview.redd.it/datspkv3pm091.png

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Tezos ecosystem career fair! We’ve noticed that many people on r/Cryptocurrency seem to have an interest in getting a job in the cryptocurrency/blockchain industry. However, it can be tough to find an opportunity to join with a job opening that fits your skill set.

We’re here to help.

Tezos is a decentralized public blockchain with a focus on governance, security and evolution. Tezos has attracted a large, organic community of artists and other creatives while also being utilized by big brands and organizations like Manchester United, Red Bull Racing Honda, McLaren, Ubisoft, Cambridge University, and more. Whether it’s related to art and NFTs, DeFi, Gaming, or some other blockchain use-case - there’s probably a Tezos ecosystem team working on it; if there isn’t, then the Tezos foundation also has a grant program to help fund innovative projects: https://tezos.foundation/grants/

The Tezos ecosystem has been growing significantly over the past year and there are many teams looking to fill open positions. We’ve compiled a list of some credible organizations within the Tezos ecosystem with many open roles to choose from. These definitely aren’t the only roles available in the ecosystem - but there are many listed here!

We’ll be in the comments to provide people with additional information about Tezos as well as the organizations and jobs listed. We’ll be taking whatever questions you have. Have fun and good luck! Our usernames are: u/BH_Michael, u/BH_Marko, u/BH_Nick - and we’re sure other members of the Tezos ecosystem will also be in the comments.

The IRS may not tax crypto earned through staking! The Jarret case involving Tezos may set the precedent.

In May of last year Josh and Jessica Jarrett requested a refund of income tax they paid on Tezos staking rewards in 2019. (Around $3200 for approximately 8800 Tezos tokens)

Today, the IRS has decided to issue that refund.

They will not refund any amount that was sold, obviously, but the couple is getting refunded for the entire amount requested, the tax they paid on the rewards that they did not sale.

This could be huge for everyone involved in cryptocurrency.

My opinion: Nothing else is taxed at the moment of creation. You don’t pay tax on gold that you pan in a stream and keep. The federal reserve doesn’t owe income tax to the IRS when it prints money.

The records will be made public Thursday and the IRS has not made any public statements.

Source: Blockworks .com , forbes .com

The Jarrett couple argued that new coins are tax-payer created property and should not be taxed until sold or exchanged.

Edit: For those that are unfamiliar, the IRS views cryptocurrency as property, a capital asset. There are two methods of taxation, capital gains tax and income tax.

When you sell, trade, or dispose of a capital asset you incur capital gains tax.

When you receive crypto through staking rewards, mining, airdrops, the IRS views that as income and it’s subject to income tax, just like interest you earn on fiat in a traditional bank.

You owe income tax on it whether you sell or not.

This is what is in question, taxing something that has not been sold or traded, only created.

How come we don’t talk more about Tezos?

Recently reading about Cardano on other subreddits and the sentiment is not as jubilant as when cardano is mentioned in this sub.

Often when talking about Cardano a comparison is drawn to Tezos and how Tezos is way ahead of Cardano.

Which got me thinking, why don’t we talk more about Tezos here? How come we hear so much about Cardano instead?

Tezos - are we all seeing this 😳 new ATH.

I’ll never trade Tezos.

I might not be the most conservative crypto investor. Thanks to this group I’ve built a bag heavy on BTC and Eth. It’s a solid footing and a reliable base.

But I’ve also built a machine that kicks back a solid APY. Tezos 💙 is at the core of it.

Last Christmas we were given a gift. Tezos dipped below $2 and the internet went on a bashing spree - calling it all sorts of names. It was Christmas and I said “this is our gift!” And it’s time to buy. Other coins have pumped more since then. Facts. But of all the coins I’ve researched Tezos is my #1.

I’m not here to shill, just to say waking up and seeing it break a new all time high is worth celebrating. I’m not selling. Bigger things are on the horizon for our little engine that can!

Happy Sunday everyone! Way to go Tezos! I’m proud of you! And most importantly thank you Tezos 💙

Tezos To Reach 1000 Transactions Per Second With Upcoming Octez v13 Release

The Tezos blockchain is set to reach a new performance milestone with the upcoming Octez v13 release, which will enable it to perform 1000 Transactions Per Second (TPS).

This work has been done by the Tarides team who have a solid tech background including team members coming from University of Cambridge, Inria, and IIT Madras.

The Tarides team has 60+ people performing groundbreaking innovation, feature development and crucial maintenance of OCaml-based projects.

In January 2022, it was announced that OCaml Labs, an organization founded at the University of Cambridge by Prof. Anil Madhavapeddy in 2012 would be joining forces with Tarides ‘to bring OCaml – one of the most advanced programming languages in the world – into mainstream use’.

Some of the organizations they do work for include Jane Street, The Tezos Foundation and Hyper.

Jane Street, a well-known quantitative global trading firm adopted OCaml as its main programming language early on because ‘the language’s functional programming style and clear expressiveness made it possible for code reviews to be performed by traders who were not programmers, to verify that high-performance code would do what it was intended to do.’

In an announcement that was posted to the Tezos Agora discussion platform on April 21st, Thomas Gazagnaire (CTO of Tarides) said:

“Our work on improving the Irmin performance resulted in Tezos reaching 1000 TPS! With the release of Irmin 3 and Octez v13, transactions have become 5x faster than they were with Octez v12 (6x compared to Octez v10).

Additionally, we’ve further stabilised the storage layer and reduced the memory required by 80%. This is a great improvement for all the Tezos users (and especially bakers), as it will make the network more stable and the baking rewards much more predictable.”

If you think Cardano is promising look into Tezos

Its all season and crypto like Ada is getting a lot of attention. A lot of people are talking about how you can stake Ada, and how it has low transactions fees. The promise that ada will have smart contracts in the future. We all know that projects got delays, and typically over promise and under deliver. Im not saying that this is the case cardano but if you are interested in all of that take a look into tezos.

Why Tezos?

Fully functional blockchain with staking and smart contracts

Low fees

NFT trading live

STOs

Defi with fraction of transactions fees

Privacy features and upgrades

Wtf with emergents tezos foundation ?

u/TheTezosFoundation

I always supported tezos chain and always respected tezos foundation decisions.

Emergents swallowed milions and it's closing one month after being out. It wasn't even a 1.0, the thing was still in beta.

It had potential but the launch was clearly underwhelming, basic functionnality for this type of game were missing, no solo, no ingame story while they made tons of lore and comic books... It shouldn't even launched in this state. Any gamer could have seen it just by playing the tutorial. What a waste..

Wtf, Is throwing money in every failed project is a thing of yours TF ? Ubisoft, redbull, manu, and even kathleen's baby emergents... Every time, it's like tf is pissing in the wind. I start to doubt if tezos isn't getting scammed on purpose at this point.

Really, that's one of the biggest failure i've ever seen in the gaming industry. Even tiny studios without any funding try at least few months before closing their failure. Here, a beta state game launched as a real launch and closing 1 month later.

Will this finally make the tf realize that there's no point in funding stuff if there is no one to use and hype tezos ? Will they finally realise that the most important thing to do right now is to market tezos hard to crypto users instead of throwing money everywhere hoping normies will magically be appealed by a top 50 coin ? It won't happen.

You have money left, use it to pump tezos marketcap, use it to pay crypto influencers to research the coin and promote it to crypto crowd, so tezos has least have a chance to compete with other L1 and not just lag behind while no one knows anything about it.

If we were top 10 with 15B mc, no team would be insecure, agora would be filled with idea and people discussions, tf would'nt need bto cut budgets, teams and dapps would find private investors without problem. Do what you want, pay influence, market buy tezos, but you need to do something and play this fucking game sooner or later before you just burn all the money left and tezos dies, because no one will ever give a shit if things stays the way they are.

Honnestly, i am a long time supporter but i don't think i can support this anymore. Probably you don't give a shit, but when everyone will be gone, you will spend the last money you got and then you will close the gates, being known for the poeple who managed one of the biggest fail in crypto ever.

Should Tezos Governance Be Used To Insure Tezos L2 Tokens

Everyone knows that Tezos has the best technology. The problem is that crypto is still a yolo culture where tens of billions in capital are being secured by multi- sigs and non-enshrined bridges and rollups. If Tezos could offer some kind of on-chain insurance for builders maybe that would help to attact dapps and liquidity. What do you think?

Greetings r/CryptoCurrency and thank you to this incredible community for hosting us,

we represent the Tezos Ecosystem, a proof-of-stake blockchain aiming to be ‘Smart Money’ and we're here to answer your questions regarding Tezos.

Recently, Tezos has been gaining traction in DeFi, STOs, NFTs, and DAOs. You can check out some cool recent product launches on Tezos like HomeBase (DAO platform), OpenMinter (NFT platform), Kolibri (DeFi platform), Dexter Exchange (DEX) and hic et nunc (NFT marketplace), all built by different organizations from across the Tezos Ecosystem. Some other cool things built by the community is Kukai wallet that lets anyone send tez or NFTs to anyone with a Reddit or Twitter handle.

What is Tezos?

Tezos is smart money, redefining what it means to hold and exchange value in a digitally connected world. A self-upgradable blockchain with a proven track record, Tezos seamlessly adopts tomorrow's innovations without network disruptions today. Tezos is also built to incentivize developers, any developer can submit a protocol upgrade with an invoice attached and the community of Bakers (validators) will be able to vote on the protocol upgrade with Tezos built in governance mechanism. To date, Tezos has had 5 protocol upgrades and the 6th one was proposed just last week! You can check it out on the Tezos Governance Explorer to view the voting activity.
