Anonymous Browsing is a way you can control your privacy on Reddit. You can use Anonymous Browsing when you want to browse the Reddit mobile app without associating your Reddit activity (like your Reddit searches or the communities you view) with your Reddit account.
While you’re Anonymous Browsing, Reddit won’t:
- Save your browsing or search history to your Reddit account
- Use your Reddit activity to personalize your recommendations
- Use your Reddit activity to send you personalized notifications
However, it’s good to keep in mind that using Anonymous Browsing on Reddit doesn’t affect how your activity is handled by internet providers, your mobile device, or other websites you may visit in or from the Reddit mobile app (including via the in-app browser). For example, a third-party website may track your visits and activity on their site, and your phone may keep track of how much time you spend using different apps, including Reddit, even while Anonymous Browsing.
How it works
When you’re using Anonymous Browsing, your Reddit activity and Reddit browsing history isn’t associated with your Reddit account. In addition, any features or actions that are tied to your account won’t be available while using Anonymous Browsing, including:
- Your home feed
- Joining communities
- Posting or commenting
- Upvoting and downvoting
- Chat and messaging
- Mod tools
When you leave Anonymous Browsing, your Reddit search and browsing history from the Anonymous Browsing session will be cleared and you’ll return to the Reddit account you were using before.
If you’re inactive for more than 30 minutes, your Anonymous Browsing session will end and you’ll be returned to the account you were using previously.
How to access Anonymous Browsing
Anonymous browsing is only available on the Reddit app.
- Open the Reddit app and tap on your avatar on the top right to open the account menu.
- Tap the arrow icon
next to your username.
- Select Anonymous Browsing from the pop-up menu.
If you want to revert back to your personal account at any time, you can follow the same instructions as above and tap your username from the pop-up instead of Anonymous browsing.
