Uwe Boll, the director of several critically panned video game movies, has mocked Eli Roth's Borderlands adaptation, saying audiences probably wish he had helmed it.

Does Uwe Boll deserve a video?

I think an Uwe Boll video could be interesting. As bad as his movies are, they have more weirdness and passion put into them than, say, a Bruce Willis DTV shitfest.

Boll is at this weird intersection of being passionate about movies, wildly untalented, extremely obnoxious in person, and also somewhat cynical about making movies for money and tax write-offs.

My Interview with Uwe Boll, "the worst Director of all time"

Dear fellow (bad) film lovers,

I'm a regular r/badMovies lurker who also runs a small podcast, where I host really smart folks (usually historians and anthropologists) for casual conversations on their areas of expertise...

Anyway, in the latest episode I finally succumbed to my heart's deepest desire and interviewed Uwe Boll, the infamous German director who made Bloodrayne, House of the Dead, Rampage, Postal and many more films that have been consistently declared as some of the worst films ever made. I do admit I always had a soft spot for this total, straight-to-DVD maverick, and I also do believe he made a couple of completely decent films in his career.

Anyway, during the convo we discuss his humble beginnings, genuine passion for film, making his first feature, developing a hard skin, hanging out with Mike Tyson and knocking out his fiercest critics in the ring.

Apologies for the plug, but I really thought some of you might be interested.

You can find the episode here:

Do you guys miss the crazy incompetence fueled train wrecks of Uwe Boll?

I'll admit this is something of a "blowing off the dust and cobwebs" moment because Uwe Boll hasn't had much relevance in the film world for years and his last film released just last year after a six year hiatus (Hanau (Deutschland im Winter - Part 1 for anyone morbidly curious) seems to have barely registered. With his films coming defining some of the worst films of not just video game adaptations but also of the 2000s I must admit that there is a part of me that misses having these terribly made films that even Boll himself doesn't fully understand what's going on in them released to over 2,000 theaters. I'm not saying time has made his movies any better because they haven't (The House of the Dead still remains one of the most incompetent wide releases I've ever seen), but I must admit there was a charmingly stupid almost endearing quality to Boll's relative peak that just isn't matched anymore with the heir apparent of bad religious cinema not nearly as enduring or fun in its badness.

Uwe Boll Video Idea

Given the increased popularity of video game movies and video game adaptations in general within the past couple of years, I think it would be interesting for Patrick to do a video centered around Uwe Boll, best known for his video game movie adaptations during the 2000's. It could be structured similarly to his videos centered around other directors he's covered like Michael Bay and Robert Zemeckis. Since Patrick doesn't know a lot about video games overall, maybe he could partner with another creator he's friends with that knows more about the subject matter (ie JustWrite).

Podcast with Uwe Boll

Hello everyone,

I am part of a small german speaking podcast and we primarily talk about movies. The next Guest of ours will be the controversial director Uwe Boll, who is responsible for movies such as "Rampage" and "Auschwitz" or a lot of video game adaptations such as "Far Cry" or "Postal". Give us question you would want to ask him and we will present him the most interesting and funniest questions, they don't nesessarily have to be serious since our Podcast is not very serious.

Thank you
