I’ve never seen a team cough up the ball more than these Celtics. Just ugly.

[–]Err_rrr_rrrr 80 points81 points  (1 child)

Idk dude… Memphis/Minny series was turnover fest galore

[–]KnicksMONSTATURKEY_420 518 points519 points  (36 children)

Celtics definitely played sloppy, but credit to the Warrior’s defence for majority of those TO’s

[–]Hates_rollerskates 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The Warriors defense was insane. They closed off every driving lane early through great help defense forcing the Celtics to put up contested shots in the paint against two and three players. That was the big factor. Brown and Tatum just couldn't get clear paths to the rim and they forced bad shots. Early in the series, Brown and Tatum would get to foul line or just inside the paint and hit midrange shots or kicked it outside for threes. Then the Warriors in the later games helped much sooner and did a better job of recovering, closing the passing lanes, and took a lot of that away. That was all defense that rattled the C's stars.

Celtics Commit Fewer than 15 Turnovers Challenge (Impossible)

[–]MavericksBonerkiin 2329 points2330 points  (42 children)

Jason Tatum is the first player to record TRIPLE DIGIT turnovers in a playoffs run. With 100 on the dot, surpassing 2018 Lebron's 94. Iconic.

[–]SpursGGezpzMuppy 590 points591 points  (10 children)

[–]Spursgedbybee 225 points226 points  (7 children)

The effort on defense all around was so bad from everyone except horford and Robert Williams. The guards did not move their feet at all.

I just want to shout out Robert Williams for gutting through all the pain and putting the celtics defense on his back. Doesn't flop, just balls the fuck out. What an incredible player

[–]CelticsSpadeHAZE 475 points476 points  (21 children)

I think Robert is one of, if not my fav player, could be bc he’s from my hometown and I’m biased but he always seems to give it his best and is pretty chill

[–]Kingsa-warm-fuzzy-feeling 229 points230 points  (14 children)

I'll be honest. I'm a west coast guy. I don't see much of the east coast teams. Watching him was a freaking revelation. Astounding defensive play. It got to the point where I assumed every drive on him was an incoming block.

[–]Warriorsjohnw188 107 points108 points  (8 children)

He blocked that Poole 3 by jumping before Poole even started his shot, just had the perfect read.

[–]CelticsRobMV03 28 points29 points  (1 child)

That's what I said to my wife. It was like watching an adult guard a kid - you know he's going to take the shot before he does, and you can just attack from anywhere and he'll just jack it up. As a C's fan, Williams was my favorite to watch all post season.

[–]Bullslkn240 111 points112 points  (3 children)

Yep - all the respect to Timelord. He's got quite a few ref baiters and floppers on his team, but that dude really stood out as a beast that just fucking swats everything and balls instead of playing refball.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep he’s got heart. Love my warriors but don’t hate Celtics a bit. They all gritty…just lost steam against a freight train. Great playoffs, great finals.

[–]Warriorsgmen985 157 points158 points  (28 children)

Timelord should have been the DPOY over Smart, said that even before this series. You could tell he was hampered by his knee, particularly on the perimeter when he had to guard 1v1 vs Steph and Poole. If he's fully healthy and can guard the perimeter, hes a complete monster. Hope he can heal up and play more mins too.

[–]AustraliaTHRlLLH0 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It was amazing seeing Williams alter/block yet another lay up, only for Smart to sit there ball watching while a guard walks straight past him to grab the offensive board.

[–]Lakersjutiatle 305 points306 points  (29 children)

There was a moment in Reddit history, pretty deep into his career, when I’d be downvoted to hell for simply saying something about him being a good basketball player.

people underestimate how much shittier you look when you play for the timberwolves

[–]Povol 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They also underestimate how playing with Steph , Klay and Draymond forces you to be a better player . All you got to do is move and you get wide open shots. The defense is all about heart . When you have the height, the weight and superior athletic ability , you choose to be an elite defender or not and he chose to be an elite defender . Good on him, it made him a champion.

When Boston started 14-2 and Kerr called time out I said "Great, now do that for 45 more minutes." Golden State outscored them by 25 for the rest of the game.

Every time Boston put on a run, they would fall in love with bad ISO shots, forced 3 pointers and sloppy passes and just gift the Warriors easy buckets on the defensive end.

[–]Lakerscaughtinthought 355 points356 points  (12 children)

Legit some of the sloppiest play I've seen. The sheer number of times Brown smart and Tatum iso drove only to fumble the ball in horrific fashion was bad.

[–][NYK] Patrick EwingAutisticNipples 121 points122 points  (6 children)

jaylen brown needs to not dribble the ball of+f his feet 5 times a game…it’s not great

edit: i accidentally of in the cold food

[–]Raptorsrealsomalipirate 72 points73 points  (4 children)

He needs to learn how to dribble with his left hand and understand that its not illegal to pass the ball when he drives.

[–]CelticsDolphintan 221 points222 points  (4 children)

first reasonable sixers fan ive seen tonight haha

[–]statsifyyourhunger 472 points473 points  (57 children)

It's hard for me to even fathom what happened to the Celtics. I just don't get why they suddenly fell so in love with contested two pointers. Low percentage, no chance at offensive boards, and so many unforced turnovers. They held the Warriors to under 108 in every single game and still couldn't even push it to 7. Just a total meltdown and hard to really even know who to blame.

[–]Celticsdank-nuggetz 543 points544 points  (29 children)

The blame starts and ends with Tatum, full stop. You can blame Pritchard for forgetting how to shoot, or White for being overall terrible, you can blame Ime for a lot. But at the end of the day, Tatum was voted 1st team all-NBA, called himself top five, and has all the noise of a superstar and completely and utterly shit his pants this entire series. 6-17 shooting (after starting 5-8 mind you) with 13 points and 5 TOs in an elimination game is beyond terrible. Not once in the Finals did he look like himself and we don't have the talent to compensate for him being a huge liability.

Al, Brown, and Williams all played their hearts out tonight, Tatum shrunk into the corner and got sonned by Wiggins yet again. He should take 95% of the blame, comes with the territory for a "superstar".

[–]Suitablynormalname 146 points147 points  (14 children)

Smart and Udoka didn't do anything either. TOtum takes the cake but Udoka not running any plays for Horford in the 4th is unforgivable

[–]Rocketshiimsubclavian 89 points90 points  (4 children)

Eh, it's an elimination game in the NBA finals. It makes sense for the coach to place his trust in his superstars that have gotten this far instead of a hot-shooting 36yo center.

Turns out it was the wrong decision, but forgivable.

[–][deleted] 197 points198 points  (12 children)

The Warriors are really good at defense.

Isiah Thomas nailed it. The Celtics offense is primarily drive and kick off dribble penetration. The Warriors are smaller but quicker and attack the Celtics weak handles.

Compounding that is the fact that despite their size advantage the Celtics got out rebounded.

[–]CelticsLnGrrrR 74 points75 points  (4 children)

Celtics kicked too much. The whole point of drive and kick is that if the basket is there at the rim, take it. Too many unnecessary kickouts for attempted 3s.

[–]Warriorsuuhson 19 points20 points  (1 child)
