Bucks were so bad Thanasis played enough minutes to get ejected

[–]SpursGGezpzMuppy 1643 points1644 points  (14 children)

Giannis: I’m so pissed, sub me out before I get a tech

Thanasis: your wish is my command

[–]Heat Bandwagonkooltogo 706 points707 points  (12 children)

Giannis looked so defeated. I can’t wait to over analyze his body language tomorrow

[–]Celticsdmatthews2981 629 points630 points  (8 children)

I don't want to be reactionary, but the Bucks should probably just cut him

[–]Heat Bandwagonkooltogo 333 points334 points  (3 children)

Absolutely. The Bucks need more dawg, they should trade Giannis for PJ Tucker.

[–]CelticsRishikrish29 184 points185 points  (1 child)

It would be nice to see both of Horford’s kids on the same team

[–]OblivionNA 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Actually hilarious, couldn’t have scripted it better myself

[–][MIL] Giannis Antetokounmpodepressedfuckboi 39 points40 points  (2 children)

Cool thing about Alex is that if you go to watch him hoop at the g league, giannis often shows up. He was at the last one I went to, standing courtside by the coach yelling shit to his brother haha. It was awesome

[–][BOS] Jaylen BrownFredDupe 349 points350 points  (5 children)

I knew this game was over when Horford was pulling from 30 feet

[–]CelticsDayMan-Ahah-ah 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The cities of Milwaukee and Philadelphia have wronged Al Horford in some type of way

[–]CelticsFerdinandMagellan999 682 points683 points  (27 children)

They just have defensive schemes that are conducive to allowing a ton of open 3’s lol

[–]blonded45 399 points400 points  (21 children)

I was told that Horford was a terrible fit for Philly because he was forced to be a spot up shooter which he was awful at. Now somehow he’s the 3rd best 3 point shooter in the league

[–]CelticsOzymandiasKingofKing 322 points323 points  (7 children)

He can't be the only 3 point shooter on your team, but if he's playing centre and surrounded by other shooters so he has time and space, you're golden.

If you play him next to Thybulle and Simmons so defenders can hang off and cover him, you're not going to have a good time.

[–]blonded45 71 points72 points  (5 children)

Maybe it’s my memory, but I distinctly remember him bricking open 3 after open 3

[–]CavaliersGarfield-1-23-23 89 points90 points  (1 child)

35% isn't really bricking, and it was better than the 34% he shot with Boston last season.

[–]Celticscimmanonrolls 34 points35 points  (0 children)

al's worked really hard on his 3. he used to be almost strictly an above the break shooter, which is typical for bigs. when he went to philly i dont think he was ready for a 4+ attempts a game distribution and when youre also playing next to another big you want to be able to space the floor in the corner. and thats not even mentioning ben simmons.

he got his heaviest 3 point load in okc and started altering his game there to be less of a high post/dho guy and more of a pure floor spacing big. this season (and last season too) he really put in the work to become adept from both corners which is HUGE for giving spacing and versatility for our ballhandlers to operate. in his previous seasons, he would attempt a corner 3 maybe once every two games (and shot a low percentage). now, hes averaging two corner 3s per game and making nearly one a game. i think al in his current form would be a great complement to embiids game. at least offensively.

[–]CelticsFerdinandMagellan999 94 points95 points  (4 children)

Brett Brown was just a disaster and Ben Simmons was the starting PG. Clear the good Horford name!

[–]76ersChiffley 43 points44 points  (0 children)

We had a starting lineup with 3 PF's lol. It wasn't his fault but it was definitely a terrible fit here

[–]Celticsaeronacht 134 points135 points  (1 child)

Rim protectors who sit in the paint rather than go out to guard Horford. Not gonna work.

[–]CelticsBlueJays007 58 points59 points  (3 children)

[–]Celticsa_crappy_lite 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Average Celtics experience

[–][deleted] 926 points927 points  (88 children)

The average Celtics experience is to get further in the playoffs than Philly but still be disappointed every single year and then told you’re spoiled as a fan because a team in a different sport in Boston was better that year

[–]Celticsidkjay 419 points420 points  (61 children)

I mean I don't watch hockey but I've been told that the Bruins are absolutely shitting on everyone else rn

[–][TOR] Norman Powellmackenzie444 220 points221 points  (13 children)

[–]NuggetsXAfricaSaltX 27 points28 points  (1 child)

[–]CelticsCompanywideRateIncr 38 points39 points  (1 child)

I’m literally watching hockey rn BECAUSE they’re just crushing it right now. I’m an all year NFL/NBA fan and pretty much just playoff hockey. Bruins are amazing to watch right now as a sports fan in general.

Bruins-Celtics playoff scheduling is gonna fuck one team somehow you know it.

[–]Celticsnevermindthatyoudope 116 points117 points  (6 children)

We did beat them that one time everybody good on their team was injured. It was definitely also by 41 points

God todays result is so much funnier remembering the postgame thread of that game

[–]Sunshumandignitybloc 58 points59 points  (3 children)

Really it just comes down to the Celtics having all the pieces to be Champs also. They're just moving them better at the moment.

[–]BucksNotacoolbro 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Their pieces seem to counter our pieces very well unfortunately

[–]Celticsipickscabs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you can slack off and still usually win then do it. Preserve energy for the playoffs. But sometimes you lose to shitty teams haha

[–]zt004 184 points185 points  (6 children)

Live by the three, die by the three. Tonight JT and JB were 11/15 from downtown. Horford also 4/6 from deep.

[–]CelticsWarPuig 110 points111 points  (5 children)

When they hit threes, they win.

When they miss threes, they lose.

Competition in front of them be damned.

[–]Celticscimmanonrolls 38 points39 points  (0 children)

it really starts with the defense. this team can win even when bricking 3s if theyre locked in defensively. when they arent putting pressure on ballhandlers and are also making lazy switches and not generating any turnovers, any team in the league can get hot and beat the shit out of you in the modern nba. celtics' problem with the wizards was the defense, which was just another result of their bad overall effort.

but when the 3s are going down the c's are basically unstoppable no matter how theyre playing defensively.

[–][deleted] 343 points344 points  (8 children)

Idk if "defeat" is the right word to use here

[–]76ersdumb_commenter 192 points193 points  (3 children)

Seriously. When the mavs beat the sixers by 4 a few weeks ago the headline was “humble” the sixers. This was no mere defeat.

[–]Celticstboneperri 153 points154 points  (1 child)

Celtics got “blown out” last game by losing 119-100. Winning by 41? Just a W.

[–]Lakersdragon8811[S] 534 points535 points  (31 children)

Brutal game. Ouch.

Tatum with 40 points what a game for him

[–]MavericksGreeneyes_65 240 points241 points  (2 children)

On 18 shots too. Super tuff

[–]Celticscelticspoop 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Bro was literally statpadding up 40 with 4 minutes to go… wait that was the third quarter

[–][PHO] Steve Nashyuhanz 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ethical 40 points

[–]JmacOTW 190 points191 points  (24 children)

Statpadder, not a top 10 player, can't do it in playoffs, Brown is better. It makes me laugh how much his haters get triggered by him playing well.

Even more weird because he's probably the most humble star in the league along with Jokic.

[–]BucksInexorableWaffle 177 points178 points  (15 children)

The "can't do it in the the playoffs" thing is especially wild to me cause like, he literally just did last year. Sure, he didn't have the best series ever against the Warriors, but that was on the back of consecutive 7 game series where he played his ass off, and had him facing a terrible matchup to boot.

[–]CelticsJoJonesy 152 points153 points  (3 children)

I genuinely think his reputation as a player would be better right now if we'd lost to the Bucks in the second round, with him dropping 46 to send it to 7. Bizarre how that works sometimes

[–]CelticsBrovenkar 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Ah see but he didn't play at his best in the finals and since those games came later any previous games are negated. It's just the rules I don't make em.

[–]Sunsuxxoid 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Your last playoff series seems to be the main thing opposing teams remember about you (trust me lol).

[–]Heatsurgeyou123 90 points91 points  (2 children)

It's crazy how you can go from scoring 50 points to 6 points in a day lol

[–]Celticsendubs 741 points742 points  (28 children)

I fully blame this loss on the Bucks color scheme.

[–]PelicansJayDogon504 242 points243 points  (14 children)

The purple jerseys fire but idk why they keep tryna incorporate blue. It’s not the wave

[–]Buckswolfwood99 47 points48 points  (3 children)

Not sure if you know this, but the blue court is only being used because something is wrong with our other court. Not sure if that’s what you are talking about. I love the Purple jerseys but think it’s a travesty to use them this whole second half of the season on a lighter blue court.

[–]Philippinesstockyriki 459 points460 points  (7 children)

Watch us lose against Utah next lmao.

But for real though, Marcus Smart has made spectacular plays for the Jays, especially for JB and some people here thinks he needs to be benched

[–]CelticsFerdinandMagellan999 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, we’re definitely dropping 1-2 remaining games but I don’t really mind. I just wanted confirmation that our record vs other top seeds is still meaningful

[–]Celticstheseyeahthese 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Fuck that, I am an irrational Marcus Smart truther and his leprechaun hair will eventually smite all that doubt him

[–]Celticskit-starblaster 72 points73 points  (0 children)

That was objectively rude by the Celtics.

[–]LakersSw3atyGoalz 418 points419 points  (15 children)

How the heck did Giannis put up 27 in shots in 25 minutes to end with 24 points

[–]CelticsWayne_Spooney 305 points306 points  (7 children)

Cs do a great job of making sure he doesn't get downhill and forcing him into pull-ups. He was so frustrated he started jacking 3s.

[–]LakersSw3atyGoalz 128 points129 points  (3 children)

Damn I didn’t notice that he was also 0-5 from deep

[–]CelticsWayne_Spooney 124 points125 points  (2 children)

It's either an incredibly good sign or very bad one for the Bucks when Giannis is shooting 3s.

Hydrogen Bomb vs. Coughing Baby

[–][MEM] Kyle Lowryitsnotyellowfever 1596 points1597 points  (94 children)

The Celtics are the perfect answer to the Bucks.

Horford and Grant Williams are two of the best Giannis defenders in the league, and if that wasn't enough, they are sending aggressive double and triple teams when he gets anywhere near the paint. Hell, I saw 4 Celtics jerseys trying to stop him on an inbounds play at one point. Giannis takes the most annoying ass concession three pointers against Boston because they build so stiff a wall Trump would name Joe Mazzulla Secretary of Defense if re-elected.

I watched a possession in the 2nd where Giannis kicked it out to Crowder because they were near triple-teaming him in the corner. Crowder was wide open, hesitated because of the rotating defender, then passed it to Ingles who had weeks to shoot it, then hesitated for the pass to the corner that he couldn't make because the defender cheated over slightly long enough for a defender to get to Ingles then stayed back on Holiday (?). That possession I felt embodied the entire second quarter. They could not hit water falling out of a boat all frame and it legit started getting in their heads to not brick yet another 3 (they were shooting a scorching 14% from deep at the time).

If the Bucks' inability to hit literally anything wasn't bad enough, the fact that Boston could. not. miss from deep only poured gasoline on the dumpster fire that was the Bucks today. The Bucks' defense is still heavily predicated on daring the opponent from beating them from deep, and the Celtics responded by doing things from distance that would be illegal in at least 29 other states. The Bucks started taking panic shots at points in the second which further killed any offense they mustered up because the Celtics would just toss up yet another three like it was nothing while Milwaukee was struggling just to put together an offensive possession.

Robert Williams might have been the single most impactful player tonight and he had 7 points off the bench in a game where Tatum and Brown scored 30+. That dude outhustled every Buck on the floor and it felt like every 50-50 ball just found him after a while because dude was getting rebounds in all types of congestion. There were so many possessions when the Bucks did everything right defensively except secure the defensive rebound and it ended up in a Celtic's hands for an easy bucket.

The Celtics put the Bucks in the league's two worst feedback loops in a way no one else can. Defensively, they force Giannis into awkward shots in the paint by changing his shot angles and introducing a second or third body into the shot attempt, forcing him to pass out to shooters, who for some reason are generationally dogshit against the Celtics and only the Celtics, forcing Giannis to spam shots including terrible 3-pointers and the cycle repeats. Offensively, they become 15 Steph Currys against the Bucks, which makes getting to the paint ridiculously easy when they force them to sell out completely to stop 3s they ain't gonna miss anyways.

[–]Celticsendubs 532 points533 points  (2 children)

You had to have written this in the 3rd quarter.

[–]76ersdavey_mann 94 points95 points  (0 children)

[–][MEM] Kyle Lowryitsnotyellowfever 88 points89 points  (2 children)

[–]Celticsdmatthews2981 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have a paper due tomorrow if you're that bored

[–]Celticsfflexz 67 points68 points  (5 children)

Can you elaborate?

[–]Celticsvloaded22 127 points128 points  (5 children)

Basketball is so funny. I think everything you said was right. But the funny thing about basketball is momentum. This game won’t convince me that if these two meet in the playoffs, and let’s be real, for as good as Philly has been playing, Celts Bucks semi finals is the most likely outcome, that it won’t be a bloodbath.

Both teams are just so good.

And I think tonight speaks more on where the NBA is honestly. Celtics got whooped by the Wiz, but came in and proved that they can handle the big stage. The Bucks will 100% respond though, especially after last season. I’m so excited for a potential matchup.

[–]Buckswats_a_tiepo 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Nah, bro’s spot on. When we’re bad from deep, we are BAD. And your defence always gives us huge issues, so we start taking bad shots and passing up good ones

[–]E1even11 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yup, the prevalence of the three has really increased the night to night variance of teams.

[–]Celticsbourgewonsie 98 points99 points  (1 child)

[–]augustus624 186 points187 points  (12 children)

Celtics are weird. I'd favor them in a playoff series against the Bucks and Sixers. However, of those three teams I also feel like the Celtics are the most likely to get upset by a lower seed in the first round. They've been playing to the level of their competition all year for better or worse.

[–]CelticsFerdinandMagellan999 89 points90 points  (6 children)

We have matchup advantages vs Milwaukee and Philadelphia. We have the size, physicality, and depth to give Antetokounmpo and Embiid a hard time. Conversely teams like the Warriors and Nuggets, spearheaded by a more inclusive force-multiplier type of offensive star, give us fits

[–]MavericksBudget_Trip422 20 points21 points  (3 children)

It definitely won’t be, but at least this loss will humble some of the ridiculously overconfident Bucks fans. Some asshole was in the Packers sub today talking about how excited we should be to watch the Bucks. He said, and I quote, that we have “one of the most complete teams of all time.”

The NBA world deserves to see Boston - Milwaukee at full strength. It is going to be a knockdown, drag out brawl for 6 or 7 games. After tonight, I’m a good bit less confident that we will come out of it the victors.

100% agree and I hope we get that matchup. good luck to y’all the rest of the way (unless it’s against us lmao)

The weather wasn’t right this time either

[–]CelticsGritalian 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They had home court but someone decided to ruin it before the game

[–]Maverickstexas2089 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is what we call a good ole fashioned ass kicking. I'm sure the Bucks will rebound from this but lawd the C's looked good tonight. Reminded everyone why they were the favorites to win the East for a majority of the season.

Talk that shit Celtics fans!

Embiid: ducked

Giannis: got humiliated at home

Fox is the true MVP

Remind me of Milwaukee losing by 40+ against Brooklyn in 2021. They are a weird team

[–]Bucksmethodeum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m fucking done bro

[–]GrizzliesWonderingCashew 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If I had a nickel every time the Bucks lost to a playoff team by 41 points, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, But it's weird that it happens twice.

[–]PacersDeedication 43 points44 points  (1 child)

You're welcome for wearing them down Celts.

[–]Celticspapi617 61 points62 points  (1 child)

What a fucking statement. We've been inconsistent but holy shit this gets me hyped for the playoffs no matter where we are. Celtics are the Bawls

[–]Warriorsmeday20 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because there's no other reason why

[–]CelticsAngelic_Phoenix 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Obligatory "The score made it look closer than it actually was"

[–]Cocaine_N_Caviar7 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Buck fans nervous about the Celtics? At full strength Celtics waxed them both games. The other game the entire C’s starting line up was out and they took the bucks to OT.

[–]Bucksbballjunkie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely worried about them. They play us extremely well and have the defenders to slow Giannis. Imperative for us to get the one seed so we see them later in the playoffs with the hope they’ve been worn down. Respect to the C’s man they’re no joke.

[–]CelticsHypoTomasis 178 points179 points  (42 children)

Well. Looks like we finally got our answer "what if Middleton was healthy" from last playoffs.

[–]BucksA2Eaton 59 points60 points  (2 children)

Game wasn't over when he went out we have no idea how it could've ended smh

[–]CelticsHypoTomasis 46 points47 points  (0 children)
