After watching Bulls games for the previous 3 seasons, here’s what I’ve learned about Billy Donovan After watching Bulls games for the previous 3 seasons, here’s what I’ve learned about Billy Donovan
Analytics

This guy can never make adjustments and has mad tunnel vision/the same script for every single game. He doesn’t make any changes based on the situation.

  • Jevon Carter was HOT last night. Dude was shooting lights out.

  • Torrey Craig was also shooting LIGHTS OUT. This guy hit back to back 3s, then hit a third one in transition in traffic from a few feet behind the arc.

  • Drummond was balling out giving the bulls a ton of energy and bunch of second chance opportunities.

Billy did absolutely nothing with these hot hands.

  • We barely got to see Jevon Carter for the rest of the night.

  • Torrey Craig was out there, but plays weren’t run to try to get him decent shot opportunities.

  • He kept Drummond in a “little” longer. Kept him in with Vucevic which is something we don’t see often of. Forcing Drummond to guard smaller guys and get mismatched, just to take him out for the rest of the game.

  • Caruso was also hot, but because the other “hot” guys weren’t getting involved much the spacing/ball movement wasn’t great to get all these guys good shots. Having the other guys I listed involved in the offence and OUT THERE would open up some shots for Caruso too.

Nothing against Ayo, but he has no business being out there when other guys are shooting lights out, we could’ve kept those hot hands going. Basketball is a game of adjustments and these little changes would make a tremendous difference.

It’s OKAY if Vucevic doesn’t get to close a game because Drummond is what we need. Or if minutes in the rotation get spread out a little more for the sake of winning. Any decent coach can make these adjustments. Makes no sense to take out a player shooting lights out for 1.5/2 quarters. That just gives them the opportunity to get cold.

Billy Donovan needs to move on from the NBA and Bulls need to move on from him. He’s not a good coach.

Another thing is the bulls defence, is TERRIBLY written up. Why do we have everyone exerting so much energy trapping and chasing the ball, when they’re just going to swing it anyways just to find the open man. It wasn’t working. What did Billy do to adjust? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The clippers got open 3s time and time again. And the bulls exerted their energy on repeat chasing down the open man for nothing. If something isn’t working he should be fixing it or making adjustments. Sure Kawhi is a tough cover but 2 points is MUCH better than 3 and an exhausted defence.
