Can't wait for Bitcoin to die when it falls below $400,000

[–]Jezzes 115 points116 points  (4 children)

Then I will buy

We almost all have sold to just buy back higher in the same month

    [–]Western-Net-7604 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah too expensive I'd rather wait till it's 4,000,000.

    [–]tranceology3 55 points56 points  (10 children)

I think it's so funny how the same joke was made in 2018 about it going under $40k... and then here we are.

    [–]rhaphazard 12 points13 points  (1 child)

    We're still 2x from 2018 high...

    [–]BooMey 6 points7 points  (3 children)

So youre saying it might have hit it's plateau?

    [–]lluuyyqq 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Woah, yeah I remember seeing people mocking 50k btc and now we here.

    [–]evenlaate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are neither scared nor greedy. People are broke! Period.

    [–]Lucky-Ad-709[S] 34 points35 points  (1 child)

    Me too

    [–]Baffett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People forget the major part about how actually cryptocurrency works.

    [–]Trifusi0n 37 points38 points  (30 children)

Give it 10 years and the same will be said when it drops below $4,000,000

      lmao shit got dark

      [–]bittabet 11 points12 points  (3 children)

lol, I sold like 200 for $8 each in 2011. Just gotta buy back on drops as best you can and accept that no you’ll never buy back everything you sold.

No reason to regret it. Literally everyone who had heard about Bitcoin could have bought it back then too and they all chose not to. So you choosing to sell was no different than people never buying. Feeling bad about that is silly.

      [–]viamoz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Sir we ain't selling let's hodl till the end. Whatever it takes.

      [–]billyfudger69 2 points3 points  (1 child)

As long as you have a few full coins left you’ll be fine, look towards the future and don’t dwell on past choices instead see what you can learn from them. :D

      [–]tcpjack 0 points1 point  (6 children)

If you could predict the future why not get lotto tickets or forex.

Not with that attitude you can't.

        [–]niksdaman -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Even with anytype of attitude no one can predict the future.

        [–]HelloWorld9787 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

you have no right to live

        [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Aint gonna happen, i wont have that much luck in my life

        [–]ivslva 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Buy BTC when the herd talks about BTC going to 10k and 20k .

        [–]freedomdieahard 5 points6 points  (1 child)

May be it can touch 10k or 20k but it will surely cross 100k too.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yes, I keep buying. Still don't believe that it will make me wealthy, sadge

        [–]Wuturuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty sure we are too late for that

        [–]nanou311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but what I do is to buying from a portion of money only.

        [–]KingGrowl 2 points3 points  (36 children)

Could it ever really get that high?

        [–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (27 children)

Us stock market has a cap of about 30 trillion. Bitcoin hit 1 trillion around its ATH. $600,000 is a 10 trillion market cap for bitcoin which isn’t unreasonable, though maybe improbable. Depends on continued adoption. We’ll see a big jump in 2024 when bitcoin halves again

        [–]KingGrowl 3 points4 points  (20 children)

Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the detailed reply.

        [–]Quick-Warthog-533 4 points5 points  (18 children)

it's not unreasonable, not improbable. it's inevitable, and it will go much. much. much higher than that.

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (16 children)

I agree. I think proof of work (bitcoin) will be used to collect energy from remote areas that are otherwise cost prohibitive.

        Let me elaborate.

There’s a massive waterfall running year round that is 100s of miles from the nearest town. A plethora of energy but who will run an electrical line 100 of miles to harness this energy? No one

What if instead I install a water turbine generator and use that energy to power a computer to mine crypto? I can collect and redistribute the energy to another part of the world in the form of crypto. This is revolutionary

        [–]arkiolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a vast thing that we can do with help of bitcoin.

        [–]Blecki 0 points1 point  (7 children)

You aren't distributing power, you're just increasing the overall amount of power used. The only way that has any effect on the power grid is if you were using exactly as much power somewhere else already.

        [–]llirppad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark my words bitcoin is going to be the future of world.

        [–]LifeScientist123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

In fact power is being wasted in mining operation as opposed to running an office building say.

        [–]Seduced_Stupor -1 points0 points  (1 child)

        You from the Gambia mate?

        [–]Emergency-Stranger-1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

US stock market cap is 56 trillions right now but yeah it’s amazing how far Bitcoin has gotten so far.

        [–]mirolazic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        I don't think it's a end yet,we will soon watch it's new destination.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Ever heard of Zimbabwe? One way or the other, given a long enough timeline… 1 BTC = at least $4M USD.

        Depressing, but true.

        [–]Bensonescosa77 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can of Coke might cost a million?

        [–]polipody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure the most costly thing we have is time and to value it.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

        LoL. I said “At least…

At some point, BTC would decouple, and be pegged to another trading pair for default settlement.

The point being this: When BTC hits $4M is the more important metric.

        There is no “If.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (9 children)

        damp it then pamp it?

        [–]zorro3987 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

So you been waiting for 4 years now?

        [–]emac1211 80 points81 points  (30 children)

I responded to some comments on a Twitter post the other day where everyone was making fun of Bitcoin for falling. Everyone said "Oh my who could have predicted this Ponzi scheme of fake money would collapse." I said "Do you think this is the first time it has ever plunged? It does this a lot, then it goes up higher than before." And a bunch of trolls said "Sounds like you need some hopium" or whatever. Every time it drops, the media jumps on it like it is the end of Bitcoin and everyone laughs, but then when it recovers a couple months later and reaches new highs, there isn't a peep.

        [–]thefullmcnulty 30 points31 points  (3 children)

It’s interesting to see how the average person treats this asset. Even though the pattern is obvious and it’s in their self interest to buy bitcoin because it just keeps going up… most refuse to see it.

        [–]nikitakrasulin 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Yes, even though I have shown bank statements and my profits to my uncle he still doesn't veli that it's possible to make real money out of Bitcoin.

        [–]AnotherMillenial93 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Man it’s been 12 years, those idiots still aren’t out of breath? 😂 they’ll be on their 80th birthday saying the same shit 🤦♂

Whatever you do, don’t go through the comments in the r/technology articles about the recent crypto drop. If you say anything remotely positive you get downvoted to oblivion by the mindless mob.

          [–]rewrite-and-repeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r technology is these days like "sophisticated" r buttcoin

          [–]safbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          [–]upvpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          [–]thrash242 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Meanwhile fiat money policy is an actual ponzi scheme.

          [–]tranceology3 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Really shows you how people think. It's like watching a 1 year old try to put a square into a circle hole and just doesn't understand it yet.

Same thing here with adults...they just don't understand it...and sad part is they may always think this way no matter how high BTC goes.

          [–]hedgehog37rus 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just like the square fits inside a hole if it's small enough and the kid thinks it's smart, that's what so many people think after watching 3 YouTube videos.

          [–]Fluffysquishia 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The lack of basic logic or reasoning is utterly astonishing sometimes.

          [–]BrocoliAssassin 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Media: Bitcoin is nothing. Also Media: Inflation is here due to decades of corruption..wait cross that out. BITCOIN IS DOWN 50%!!!!

          [–]Longjumping-Low3164 104 points105 points  (18 children)

It is against human nature to buy the dip. So remember folks buy high sell low 😅

            [–]CowNo5879 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ikr? In a bull market you're like yeah this is a great idea and in a bear market you're like wtf buying on red? But I think its supposed to work in the end

            [–]JkLymlo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pro players know how this works, they have been speculating for years and know that buying the dip is profitable

            [–]Maddcapp 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same here. My brain always says well maybe this is the time it won’t ever come back up. But it always has.

            [–]dottking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy it because I think that I will lose less than people who had it before the dip

            [–]Nyroxis 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Buy low is such a simple rule yet so many people don't follow it. Smh.

            [–]Ruruya 3 points4 points  (2 children)

"oh wow! It's valuable! I must buy it!"

            [–]systemap 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh well it has pumped 200% in a month, I must definitely buy it.

            [–]fonltcrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then it goes to $25k and the same BS to make people lose more money so the smart sellers can make out.

            [–]bitcoin_cr 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Because most people aren't capable of making such financial desicions in life.

            [–]adriennemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, that's what I did back in June. I've finally broken even!

            [–]kotyshov 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey that's my strategy, how dare you try to copy it?

            [–]NoahB76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m disagree on this point, crypto is a game play for the genious ones .

            [–]llewsor 58 points59 points  (38 children)

so the lesson is don’t buy bitcoin because it will crash.

            [–]LifeSucksAss1234 14 points15 points  (31 children)

Only buy when the price is going up.

            [–]chris_ots 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Buy at a peak and sell at a loss and then go tell everyone how bitcoin is a scam.

            [–]konskeohony 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hey I think I know so many people like that, some people even go to buy shitcoins and after loosing it they consider whole crypto currency as a scam.

            [–]pjdixon75 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I don't have to worry about because whenever I buy it automatically becomes the top.

            [–]bonafidebob 6 points7 points  (23 children)

Only buy if you believe that at some point in the future someone will pay you more for it than you're paying to buy it from someone else now.

That it. There's no underlying fundamentals to look at. It's not a share of a company that has assets and income. It's value can only be determined by what someone else is willing to pay you for it.

If you think there will be more buyers in the future that will pay a higher price, then you should buy. If you don't, then you should sell. The price is the reflection of the "wisdom of the crowd" on what people in the future will do.

"Buy the dip" could be friendly helpful advice from investors that want you to get rich too, ironically working against their own self interest to drive the price up instead of lower it so they can buy more. Or it could be people who want to sell their holdings at the current price and need to find buyers. Up to you to figure out which is which...

            [–]ShawnShipsCars 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Fair points, but you miss an important part when you mention "There's no underlying fundamentals to look at" -

It's a global, trustless, deflationary, decentralized alternative store of value/transactional network that's still in relative infancy, but is now being adopted & accepted by many people & businesses. It's proven it's value to the point where other countries have/are beginning to add it to their balance sheets and adopt it as another form of currency.

That's a ton of value if someone extrapolates the way the trend is going into the future.

            [–]bonafidebob 0 points1 point  (7 children)

It's proven it's value to the point where other countries have/are beginning to add it to their balance sheets and adopt it as another form of currency.

I'm not sure that qualifies as "proven its value" though. I mean, the lack of fundamentals still applies, and more/bigger countries have outlawed it rather than accept it. There are troubling issues around the overhead that "proof of work" requires in terms of energy consumption and I don't quite get what prevents some alternative cryptocurrency from being able to readily replace it.

As a "store of wealth" I'm troubled by the fact that the bitcoin economy gives away about $250,000 every 10 minutes. Someone is paying for that. So far it's hidden behind an inflating price, but it feels to me like a huge game of chicken and I'm not sure what prevents a huge devaluation if sentiment ever turns.

            [–][deleted]  (3 children)

            [deleted]

              [–]bonafidebob 0 points1 point  (2 children)

block reward in usd depends on exchange rate

We can use units of BTC if you prefer. At 6.25 BTC/10 min or 900 BTC/day or 328,500 BTC/year, that represents roughly 1.7% of the existing coins, or 2% of the existing coins if you assume 3MM are lost forever.

So I'm troubled by the fact that the bitcoin economy gives away 2% of its total value every year. Someone is paying for that, because the electric companies aren't taking BTC to pay for the electricity they sell...

              [–]ufooo3611 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Yeah but with the Bitcoin halving every few years and so, keep in mind at one point it's gonna reach its maximum of 21 million coins. What then? What do you think it's gonna happen? Scarcity. You can only guess the value it's gonna have by then.

              [–]arcrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cause you KNOW it's gonna crash.

              [–]Lucky-Ad-709[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

              Sorry, it will 'die'

              [–]The_Estranger_0001 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Bitcoin will be history, when it falls below $1M

              [–]sandervk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take a chance. Although I'm not sure it's the bottom.

              [–]Jonno12321 11 points12 points  (1 child)

              I'm seeing a pattern here.

              [–]Uberhipster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

me too... BTC news headlines have gone from Tech Crunch to Bloomberg to CNBC

              [–]K0rbenKen0bi 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Gonna be a real bummer when it tumbles below $4 Million...

              [–]TyranaSoreWristWreck 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Slow down, speedy. Let's get to $400,000 first.

              [–]K0rbenKen0bi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously. And knew there would be 478 people making the 400k step, so I fast forwarded a touch.... Like $6 Trillion or so market cap... EDIT: okay 60... Decimals, heh

              [–]sylsau 21 points22 points  (4 children)

It is psychologically difficult to stay strong and keep buying the dip in these situations. However, if you understand the why of Bitcoin, things become clearer. With long-term goals, you focus on how many BTC you can accumulate without looking at the short-term price.

This DCA approach can make a big difference in the long run as long as you are patient.

              [–]tradone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's difficult to buy because you had already bought the top and had already sold.

              [–]ChiefShaman 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Imagine "shedding risk" by selling BTC for CuckBucks

              [–]NotEvenALittleBiased 5 points6 points  (0 children)

              Flash sale

              [–]44gallonsoflube 5 points6 points  (3 children)

The lesson is “bitcoin always crashes. Despite epic gainsssssssss

              [–]Lucky-Ad-709[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Maybe Bitcoin always gain despite falls

              [–]44gallonsoflube 2 points3 points  (1 child)

              Thanks captain ;)

              [–]shardikprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the real treasure was the gains we made along the crashes

              [–]LancelotGoD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Few years from now those who bought the dip will be glad they did.

              [–]bbien12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now, can we see the $300, $3000 and $30000 news

              [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

media outlets reporting btc's ~50% dip from ath, but not shitcoin's 99%+ dips... they afraid of btc me thinks

              [–]tsrdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, a purchase at this price will be what you need, because we are unlikely to go lower, although even if we go down, this will also be a good opportunity to complete our positions .

              [–]llewsor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

              post this to r/technology

Fun fact: Fox News keeps saying Bitcoin will eat yer baby, shit on the living room carpet and try to molest your grandma.

Rupert Murdoch has over 20 BILLION in Bitcoin.

Basically scare stories so billionaires can buy up BTC cheaply.

NBCUniversal ALSO producing scare stories whilst investing heavily in BTC....

Bitcoin is not a stock, it is not a company and it is not a commodity. It is a digital asset that is used to buy things and it has value because people believe it has value. The price of bitcoin can go up or down for a variety of reasons, but the underlying utility of the asset will always be there.

Are people spending theirs? I spend mine on Newegg and porn.

              [–]chris_ots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend some of my profits on dark net marketplaces :D

              [–]icepickjones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is too many people look at it like a commodity. They want to flip it for a quick buck instead of replacing fiat or something more ambitious.

              [–]Svenskensmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think the current valuation of bitcoins is because people treat is a currency to buy and sell things I have a bridge to sell you.

              [–]Captain_Planet 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Just been told by one of my friends: "I'm glad you didn't manage to persuade me to buy Bitcoin" (in a very smug voice) - He was asking me about it early November just before the peak when he was very interested...

I also reminded him I did actually tell him to buy Bitcoin in 2014 shortly after the 2013 crash, at the time he laughed at me, he now doesn't remember that conversation...

The banks are manipulating the price to create instability.

In in the end it will be their historical manipulation of small nations’ currencies that will give Bitcoin the win.

              [–]aidajaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

              [–]BruceAENZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These headlines are hilarious in hindsight, but behind them are a lot of people who bought at the top, sold in a panic, and are suffering. These articles are the kind of validation they seem to be looking for - telling them they made the right decision, just before Bitcoin collapsed completely.

Of course, they are also the kind of validation many of *us* are looking for now - a reminder that every time bitcoin dips it's 'the end', except it never is.
