I’m 16 and pregnant

I turned 16 a few months ago, I got a job, got my license, got a car. Things were looking really good for me. A few days ago I found out I was pregnant. I’ve decided I want to keep it. I don’t want judgment or people telling me to get an abortion. I just want some advice on how I should go about this. Some advice on how to be a teen mom.

Edit: I have talked to the father and he’s sticking around.(thankfully) he’s told his mom but I have not. He has a job and he’s turning 18 in about a week and a half. He also has an apartment lined up. So I’m honestly waiting for him to move in before I tell my parents so that if they kick me out I have somewhere to go. His mom is disappointed but supportive and understanding. I have already been to a clinic and been connected to an obgyn and have started prenatal. Also I will be finishing school. Thankfully my school has a free family resource center and free teen parenting classes and also free child care. I am very fortunate to have access to all these resources.

Edit 2: since a lot of you think I don’t have responsibilities, I pay my phone bill, I started paying rent when I got a job (only $300 a month but it’s something) I buy my own toiletries, and groceries. It’s not because I am forced to but because I choose to so that I can learn real responsibility. I have been doing this for about 2 years now since when I started babysitting a 1 year old and a 6 year old. I babysat from 4pm-8pm every weekday and from 10am-8pm on weekends. I know babysitting is nothing compared to being a parent but from that experience I know how to care for children.

Update: after reading all these comments, talking to my parents, my bf, and my bfs parents. We have decided not to keep the baby. I will be having it but my aunt, who cannot conceive, will be adopting it. We haven’t discussed every detail such as if the baby will know I’m their biological mother, if I’ll be a prominent figure in their life, things like that. Thank you to everyone who has given me advice and I would appreciate any advice on those things if anyone has any.

I went down a Wikipedia rabbit hole and found a list of every 16 and Pregnant episode with their children's names listed. Take away: Well most of these...sound like names a teenager would come up with, because they are. I was most surprised by the multiple uses of Monroe as a female middle name, maybe its the new Marie? Or the old Marie since they stopped filming in 2014. I was also amazed at the many bastardizations of the name Jade/Jada and the fact that no one can spell Aubrey.

My favorites: Adrian Eli and Layton

The most ??? sibsets:

  • Carolyn, Novalee, and Vaeda

  • Jace, Jacob, Kaiser, Ensley (starts alright then goes downhill, but it's Jenelle what do you expect?)

  • Jamie, Jayleigh, Kennley

  • Kylee and Adrian (Adrian: classic, strong, timeless. Kylee: not)

  • Aydenn and Christopher (same)

  • Gannon, Jaxie, and Broncs

  • Nova Star and Stella Star (all four of their names mean the same thing)

  • Tinleigh, Tessly, and Kerrington

  • Amariah and Amayah

And most narcissistic goes to mother's Amber Leann and Leah who named their daughters Leah Leann (poor Leelee) and Aleeah (just her name with some extra vowels tossed in, pronounced just like Leah with an A in front)

Sorry, this post was so long I've just been thinking about some of these bad bad names (seriously, Kay'den? Tessly? Jaxie?) and had to torture the rest of you with this. Do you like any? Any particular name sins in here you just can't stand?

Surfing channels and found 16 and pregnant, it made me realize just how much I’ve matured

I remember when this show first came out. I would watch it all the time. Then when I became pregnant (in my early 20’s, not a teen) I would still watch it because I felt a sense of solidarity between me and those girls. When they’d discuss their hardships, their dreams etc. The way they’d chat with their friends. I thought the girls sounded smart enough for their age. I saw myself as one of them. Over the years I eventually stopped watching.

Just a bit ago while surfing through channels. Two kids, dog and cats, a mortgage and some cars and many many years later, I came across 16 and pregnant. I watched quietly and realized something. I identified myself more with the moms of these girls than the girls themselves now. I felt their stress and worry towards their daughters. I felt their frustration at seeing their girls struggling. Wondering how they’ll pull through. Wanting to strangle the useless boyfriend they had lol. I kept sneaking little glances at my own daughter quietly. I just had one of those moments where I knew I am in a completely different level in my life. A level I could just now acknowledge and see

I'm 16 and pregnant...with twins.

I'm 16 and pregnant...with twins. I need a ton of advice for how to tell them apart (they are identical), and how to deal with two babies crying at the same time.

I do have a wonderful boyfriend who has there for me the whole time, but I still get overwhelmed with the thought of it.

Any advice or encouragement is so needed and appreciated, but please, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. I already get bullied for my age, I know it's young.

TIL Research suggests teenagers who watch "16 and Pregnant" are less likely to become pregnant and more likely to do research online about birth control and abortion.

MTV’s 16 and Pregnant baby names

I was watching an episode of 16 and Pregnant this morning and was really...intrigued by the name the parents chose for their baby (Aydenn, fwiw). So I decided to put together a full list of all of the children born on the show, so I could fully examine the range of the types of names they were given. It is pretty vast, IMO, and I thought some of you might find it interesting

For those who don’t know, 16 and Pregnant is a reality show that was on MTV from 2009-2014 (reruns still play a lot, though). It follows teen mothers as they encounter pregnancy, birth, and life with a newborn (or in a few cases, coping with an adoption placement). It also has two spin-offs currently, Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2.

So without further ado, here it is:

Season 1 (2009):

  • Bentley Cadence (M)

  • Sophia Laurent (F)

  • Leah Leann (F)

  • Jocelyn Jade (F)

  • Weston Owen Jr. (M)

Season 2 (2010):

Some "16 and pregnant" statistics

http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/slideshows/16-and-pregnant-stars-by-the-numbers-a-depressing-breakdown/

Site looks like it's a tabloid, but the first two or three pages show some rather illuminating numbers, such as

  • 59 Girls Have Appeared on the Show

  • 95% (56 Girls) Chose to Raise Their Children

  • 5% (3 Girls) Chose Adoption

  • 25% (15 Girls) Have Married Their Baby's Father

  • 10 of Those Marriages Ended in Divorce or Separation

  • 75% Chose Not to Marry the Father

  • 83% (49 Girls) Are No Longer With Their Baby's Fathers

  • 29% (17 Girls) Have Married or Gotten Engaged to Someone Else

  • 2 Girls Had Their Baby's Fathers Die

  • The Moms Have Given Birth to a Total of 62 Babies

  • Ayden and Aubrey Are the Most Popular Names

  • 53% (31 Girls) Have Had or Are Currently Expecting a Second Child

  • 47% (28 Girls) Have Only Had One Child

  • 10% (6 Girls) Have Had or Are Expecting a Third Child

As illustrated by the above, teen pregnancy is such a wonderful and joyous occasion where everyone should celebrate, throw elaborate parties for, and save up for a big $100k wedding /s. Ok, ok, I'll put the crack pipe down now.

I'm thinking of binge watching all five seasons of 16 and pregnant, scratching my head at times thinking if they knew "How is babby formed? how girl get pragnent?" and afterwards order six pies from a bakery and send it to my urologist's office as a thank you.

16 and pregnant season 6 Shelby episode

Hi guys. I am not sure we discuss 16 and pregnant here, if we don’t, please feel free to delete this :) I just want to discuss this train wreck of an episode I just saw. I haven’t been watching the show for a while, so that is why I just now saw it for the first time. I have no words. So, Shelby got pregnant while the other girl was something like 7-8 months pregnant and apparently she knew about that. I get the vibe she might have done it on purpose, which I realise is quite a heavy accusation, but even if it she didn’t, it’s still extremely shtty to get together with a man whom you know is about to have a baby with another girl. I am not saying the guy was not at fault, what he did was extremely shtty as well. Like he couldn’t keep it in his pants or at least wear a condom even if he thought she was on birth control. Shelby seemed quite ok with the situation and I wonder if she felt she did it to herself or she just has a lot of self control. At the end of the day, her daughter will suffer for her mother’s stupidity. I understand we are talking about teenagers who tend to do stupid things, but this is just too much. At least the grandparents seem supportive and nice.

16 and Pregnant Timelines

I've been binge watching 16 and Pregnant, and there's a few things I've noticed about when the girls give birth. It ALWAYS (or at least most of them) a birth between October and December. Not sure if that's a coincidence or of there's some teen pregnancy plan that starts between January and March.

Also, a lot of the girls will say they've only been dating the baby daddy for 2 months (yet are 7 months pregnant at the start- but I'm guessing that's just how it's edited).

ALSO, the amount that some of these girls don't know about their own bodies or how pregnancy works/happens is astonishing. I know they're just teens, but if you're doing the horizontal hustle, you should be aware of what goes on in there.

AND FINALLY, honest to gosh...I'm surprised some of these boys have it in them to knock a girl up. Just saying.
