Generation X was born, by broadest definition, between 1961 and 1981, the greatest anti-child cycle in modern history. Nevertheless, we grew up to become the world's most devoted parents: the "workhorse of America." This sub welcomes links, photos, graphics, memoirs, commentaries, stories, etc., for and about Gen-Xers, the 13th Generation of Americans. GenX also translates to many other parts of the world.
Hi everyone, 20F Gen X music fan here. I have a music question, I’m looking for recommendations for that early hip hop music, starting as early as when Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang came out, all through the 80s and into the 90s, any music recommendations from that specific period would be much be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!
Edit: Thank you so much for all these fucking awesome music recommendations everyone!! I’ve had a very shitty, stressful, and rough week and hearing this music and discovering some new music has really raised my mood a bit, thank you, I really appreciate it!! :D

I don't know any rap/hip hop music artists from Germany, like at all.
Up until now I've only listened to rap/hip hop songs that were in English.
Do you know any German rap/hip hop music artists that only/also sing in German and would be worth mentioning ?
Thank you, much appreciated.

I'm Uriguayan and asking this because I've been thinking about this. I mean, as far as I understand it, hip hop is considered "ghetto" by Americans and listened mostly by low income population.
But as far as I know, that's not the case here. It might be ignorance of my part as I enjoy other completely different music scene (gothic rock, some metal, some electronic) but I think the low income population around here listen to "cumbia villera" and "reggaeton" because low income citizen in general don't understand (and don't like nor want to learn) English and even people that likes rap or hip hop prefer Spanish speaking artists. Is that true?
Regarding myself, the only American rapper I can name is Eminem haha do people listen to this music genre in your country?

Hey, I’m a musicians who’s been struggling to find shows that fit my style. I’ve been looking for places to perform & get my name out there but it’s all 21+ at the moment. At 19, I’m literally at the age where I can’t keep waiting around anymore.
I know the pdx house scene is focused mainly on rock & indie alternative music, but is there any House Show owners that mainly handle Hip/Hop - Rap oriented music. Or at least just music of kinds.
If anyone knows any, please lmk. I’d rlly love to perform. I can’t keep living without it.
