Toby: Neuter, Genderless Person

For any non-binary (neutrois, genderless, gender-neutral or agender) people seeking some media representation or (recent) historical continuity, I came across this 5 part interview that was very worthwhile!

It’s from the 1980s and Sally Jessy Raphael interviews Toby, who identifies as neuter or genderless. They’re also asexual! The interviewer is surprisingly well-intentioned about it given the decade (though still offensive, but what can you do), and Toby receives some very positive/approving feedback from audience members.

Although they do also have a man on the show who is extremely disrespectful towards Toby and very homo/transphobic, and a psychiatrist who is pretty inappropriate. But other than them, this was quite enlightening to watch, and it was much better than I expected given the time period.

I wanted to share my coming out story :)
I finally decided to take the plunge and come out to my family and friends as agender. I wrote this spoken word poem and made this video to accompany it. The response has been overwhelmingly and surprisingly great! I’m so happy, and just want to share good vibes with anyone who is thinking of coming out, or who knows they definitely can’t come out yet, there’s a community online and offline and we’ve got your back!
