Hello everyone, I’ve been silent about my sexual assault for 8 years but I want to share this to spread the word and make people aware. I was 13 wearing shalwar suit, standing in line at Golden temple to pray. It was summer vacation so it was very busy. I was accompanied by my mom and younger sister. It was early in the morning we stood in line for about 4-5 hours. Suddenly I feel a hand grouping my breast, I became numb. My mom was standing in front of me holding my sister but I couldn’t move. The crowd was pushing as everyone wanted to move ahead in line. I then feel a hand grouping from behind, a man pushing his body over me every chance he got. Breathing like a monster in my ears, trying to reach my breasts, humping me, rubbing his hands on my body and asking for my number. I looked back and he was smirking at me, a guy in turban in his 20’s. I couldn’t believe it, I was always told that Singh’s are warriors/ protectors. I couldn’t move or speak anything. All I could think of was how at such a pure place someone could even think to do such a thing. How could no one see what he was doing? I kept praying that he would disappear. So scared and terrified. All I knew was that Babaji was watching and just hoped he would stop. I stomped his feet, tried to look at other people but nothing worked.

I was just a kid. I remember after we got out the line my legs and arms were shaking, my heartbeat was so strong. I never told anyone about this, I just couldn’t.

I just wanna leave this here and hope that people would protect kids, keep an eye out for kids in public and teach them to be brave. My parents were very strict and I was afraid they would say something bad if I told them. Parents please bring a change, don’t make your kids scared of you that they don’t tell you things like these. This event ruined my childhood. I never want to go back to Amritsar. I’m afraid of crowds. I wish nothing like this happens to anyone else.

Sang in my IIM Amritsar interview 🎊😭

IIM Amritsar- Profile-9/10/7 Gnef, OA-97.81

One female (F) and one male (M) in panel

F- Talked about my unusual grad subject combination and asked me why i chose them (English hons with Eco minor)

Told

F- Lots of English related questions - Do you know Jane Eyre? Similarities and Differences across Shakespeare Plays? Affect of Culture in recent Indian Literature ? Asked me about some writers and if i am familiar with them.

Answered most of them and also told them if i wasn’t familiar with them in some instances

F-So you had Economics, Explain eco to a non eco background person without using any jargon

Told- she was quite satisfied

F- What is Diminishing marginal utility?

Told

F- What was your college motto?

“Dare to dream” was my answer which was correct

F-Are you daring to dream? Everyone does an MBA

Told yes and about wanting to have my own start up- She was satisfied

F- Why should we select you?

Told

Shifted to M

M- Why should we not select you?

Told

M- Dissed my English degree a lil bit and said ki galat nahi bolraha hu literature padhna but 💀 and then asked about my maths.

Told them how I don’t have any issue with maths

M- Tried to have me do differentiation and integration problem

But I told them that I wasn’t familiar with the concepts

F- Clarified if I had maths in 12

I said I didn’t have

M- How will you keep up

Told him

M- Alright so are you aware of anything written by rabindrnath?

Talked about Gitanjali

M- He asked me to recite two lines from it

I said that I learned Ranbindra sangeet (Which is also a part of Gitanjali) and I tried to recite but wasn’t able to as I learnt it in musical form and reciting was weird Told him that

M- He said sing it 🔥

And I sang two lines 😭

M- Seemed to like it and he was vv happy cuz I think he was bengali and I sang in Bengali

Both looked very happy and M went further told me that you are very sorted and you have clarity and that they had a great time.

Overall it was a fun experience they were pretty chill. I was smiling the whole time and it nice only. I was third in the sequence so no hurrying as well

Gobindgarh Qila Amritsar

Went Gobindgarh fort in Amritsar and personally was disappointed! It felt more like a fairground than a fort.

The fort itself is very impressive and mighty! But inside it had camel rides, food stalls, magic shows and bhangra performances!

All of that stuff just didn't seem right in a mighty fort built by the Bhangi Misl and later Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

It had a small weapons museum which was nice and then another museum with replica coins from Ranjit Singhs time.

I had a walk around the outer wall of the fort and it was covered in scribles with love messages and hearts. I even saw a really big drawing of the male private parts! Seems like the locals have very little appreciation for their history and this majestic fort associated with Sikh raj.

The majestic fort also once housed the Kohinoor diamond.

The fort itself is in great condition apart from the graffiti and drawings on the outer wall, but it would be great if the camel rides and magic shows were replaced with world class arms and armour galleries. That would make more sense!

I also visited Maharaja Ranjit Singhs Summer palace, Amritsar, which was in a really bad state! The garden around the palace was overgrown, trash everywhere, graffiti, love messages scribbled all over the monuments in the garden. The guard even warned me not to go into the other monuments in the garden other than the main palace because men and women use the abandoned buildings to have s3x.

For a people who love to go on about our history we really don't seem to appreciate the heritage left behind, in fact many seem to disrespect the heritage.
