Amiga 1200 for gaming

Last week I picked up an Amiga 1200, Philips monitor, SCSI CD drive and a box of disks, hoping to relive the fond memories of my original 1200 I had 30 years ago.

Yesterday I picked up another stock model with PSU, no addons from a local seller. So now I have two 1200s.

What is the easiest option to set one up for gaming? I see it's possible to run workbench from a CF card connected to the internal IDE (and have the CF card come out at the back near the mouse port). Perhaps using another CF in the PCMCIA port to load games.

Do I need to run WB? Is a FDD emulator like a Gotek a better option?

There seems to be too many options.

Found my old Amiga 1200 in the attic. Does it work?

Hi,

I found my old Amiga 1200 in the attic. It comes with an external floppy disc drive, a mouse, a joystick and hundreds of floppy discs.

I wanted to check if it works. I plugged it to the TV and switched it on. A white screen shows up and the internal floppy disc produces a perodical click-sound. Then, I put in a floppy disc (workbench)... the computer seems to load something from the disc but then stops. Nothing happens, screen still while.

So, my questions:

a) It it normal that when switching the A1200 only a white screen is shown.

b) What could the computer be worth? Actually, I am not interested in keeping it (sorry).

I like building retro computing/gaming setups of various kinds, and since I grew up in a DOS/Windows 3.x household (with some Nintendo mixed in), that's what I have been focusing on. But I also want to experience what I missed out on as a kid, so a few years ago I bought an Amiga 1200. I only got around to actually tinkering with it the past few months, and it now looks pristine (new keycaps, case and PSU), runs AmigaOS 3.2 and has a TF1230 accelerator installed. Admittedly it's not EXACTLY like it would have been in the 90s, but pretty close.

Now, what software would you recommend to try? Can be games, anything "multimedia", demos, music, programming, edutainment, cover disks, etc, as long as it runs on my system. Especially, if you used an Amiga in the late 80s to mid 90s, maybe in germany or UK, what do you remember most fondly?

Amiga 1200 some keys not working

Amiga 1200 some keys not working

Hello! I bought an Amiga 1200 off ebay, everything's working great except some keys don't work (lshift) the "ù" key near the enter key (italian leyboard), caps lock, left shift and I can't reboot using the ctrl+amiga keys, had not the opportunity to test the kyeboard via testing software as I have no way of passing stuff from pc (waiting for cf hdd kit to arrive) and couldn't have tested the function keys.

What could be the problem do I need a new membrane or could i try cleaning it? Any tips on how to clean the membrane? Also seems the membrane could be a little dirty as some keys work if you press them harder.

Somebody mentioned online that if you need to buy a new membran they advised to buy hard pcb membranes (like this one https://retroready.one/products/hard-membrane-keyboard-replacement-for-amiga-500-amiga-1200) but are slightly more expansive. what are your opionions about it?

Thanks!

edit: spelling

edit2: thanks to everybody who shared their advices!

Edit3: Amiga keys are working you just have to press harder, same thing goes for caps lock but led don't turn on. haven't manage to make ctrl and left shift work yet, seem the only keys that are not responsive, probably the keyboard has a lot of dust and gunk.

Will try to take it apart and clean it, I just need a quiet afternoon to take my time and carefully do it. Hopefully a membrane replacement won't be necessary as I don't see patterns like a whole row or colum not working. Ordered a keycap remover from amazon as well.
