The volume adjustment on my TV goes up to 100. Anything louder than maybe 12 is completely intolerable.
Simultaneously, I have wished many times that I could lower the volume of my phone speaker to be quieter than even the very first ‘notch’ above mute.
Why are things designed this way?

A place to discuss and share anything related to vintage Apple computers and products.
In 1998, people wanted a friendly, easy-to-use computer for the internet. That was the iMac, the simplest of them all with the fewest features, but it got many people using their first computer ever.
By 1999-2001, consumers wanted more out of their computers, like watching the new DVD format, burning CDs and fast connectivity through FireWire. The iMac DV fulfilled this, and all following iMacs included high-speed 'pro' ports.
By 2002, people wanted flat-screen technology, the world was going digital after all. The iMac G4 came in for that purpose.
In 2004, with DVD everywhere and people expecting more and more, the iMac G5 delivered with its G5 chip and widescreen as standard. In 2005 the iSight camera brought video calling much closer for regular buyers.
By 2007, it was clearer than ever that regular consumers all thought of themselves as "pro" users. They used their computers a lot and took them seriously. The aluminium iMacs reflected that trend to stop looking friendly, and start looking pro.
2005-2016 followed the general Apple/global trend of thinner=better. This was the era of the first MacBook Airs, the shrinking iPods and slimming MacBook Pros. But as iMacs shrank, the screen sizes reached their peak, as everyone wanted the best: first full HD 1080p displays, then 4k-5k with Retina. For the regular consumer, nothing else other than display quality was really important.
Which brings us to the M1/M3 iMacs, 2021-2023. A return to fun in a post-pandemic world, Apple's first real attempt since the original iMac to radically remove legacy ports, and its own legacy that is still uncertain. It's thinner again, lighter again, presumable more for reducing material (environmental reasons) rather than any consumer demand for it. The Apple Silicon iMacs pay homage to the whole history of iMacs before though, having both fun but also seriousness in the Silver colour, while continuing their trend of simplicity and ease of use.
At the end of the day, the iMac's evolution is mostly based on the rise of digital, widescreen displays, and the increasing demands of consumers.
ESP32 is a series of low cost, low power system on a chip microcontrollers with integrated Wi-Fi and dual-mode Bluetooth. The ESP32 series employs either a Tensilica Xtensa LX6, Xtensa LX7 or a RiscV processor, and both dual-core and single-core variations are available. It includes in-built antenna switches, RF balun, power amplifier, low-noise receive amplifier, filters, and power management modules as well.
Hey guys, I have a question I am new in the electronics world and I discovered that MCU like ESP32, STM32, etc are really powerful and has an tremendous community support.
My question is why they are not being used by big companies or commonly found in our day to day products ?? Like we can have really good DIY smart lights using esp32 just like Phillip hue.

News and discussion around Y Combinator and Y Combinator companies. In 2005, Y Combinator created a new model for funding early stage startups. Twice a year we invest a small amount of money in a large number of startups.
TLDR:
The last time YC invested in a consumer electronics company was in 2016.
If you are building consumer electronics, it truly does not make sense to take the time to apply to YC.
_________________________________________________
In its history, YC has invested in 4,417 startups.
Of which, YC states that it has invested in 35 consumer electronics.
Within this, the last time they claim to have invested in consumer electronics was W22. However, looking into those products neither is actually consumer electronics.
Circular is a subscription for electronics others build and AvairSense builds AI for existing cameras.
Mindportal is a make-believe headset which does not exist. Quell and Visual One are software for existing hardware. KubeSail, from S19 is the latest consumer electronics startup that YC has invested in. KubeSail, however, is much more a B2B company than B2C.
Fat Llama is a rental marketplace and is not consumer electronics. LitHit is a consumer electronics, but similar to KubeSail it is much more a B2B offering.
Proxy and Whyd are the latest actual true consumer electronics YC invested in. This was in 2016. Neither Proxy nor Whyd were bringing revolutionary innovations to market. One was placing existing NFC tech into a ring and the other was building speakers. Upgraded is not consumer electronics.
In its latest batch YC invested in 153 B2B companies out of 218, 70% - of which nearly all are AI-related.
110 of 218 companies accepted in last batch were based in or near SF, 50%.
The long and short of it is don't bother applying to YC if you're in consumer electronics. Only bother if you're in B2B SAAS with a heavy AI emphasis. There appears to be an extreme bias towards companies based in and around SF.
For reference, we applied last year - they did not check out our website (used tools to track & verify). Our experience + the analysis in this post suggests YC uses a system to automatically vet out consumer electronics companies.

Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.
