Humiliating photo shows Boris Johnson speaking to almost empty room at Republican convention

daily_mirror
commented

Boris Johnson has flown to the US to speak to an almost empty room at the Republican National Convention.

Humiliating photos obtained to the Mirror show the former Prime Minister addressing rows of unfilled seats in a hotel ballroom in Milwaukee. Mr Johnson has been scrambling to stay in the spotlight with speeches, newspaper columns and a looming memoir since quitting in disgrace as an MP following the Partygate scandal.

The ex-PM spoke on a panel about the UK and US elections alongside Kellyanne Conway, who served as a White House adviser when Mr Trump was President and now hosts a Fox News show.

The pair sat in white armchairs flanked by UK and US flags, with a backdrop promoting Vapor Technology Association, an American lobbying organisation for vapes. Just a few dozen people came to see Mr Johnson speak at the Pfister hotel despite more than 50,000 people due in Milwaukee for the convention.

Stormy Daniels declares 'lock him up' as she breaks silence on Trump conviction

daily_mirror
commented

Stormy Daniels has dramatically broken her silence on convicted ex-President Donald Trump, demanding: Lock him up.

Speaking for the first time since White House hopeful Trump was found guilty, the former adult actress told us: “I think he should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate, or being the volunteer punching bag at a women's shelter.

Stormy told how she now feels vindicated - and warns the world ahead of Trump’s fresh bid for office: ““He is completely and utterly out of touch with reality.

Ever since stepping down from the witness box in the former president’s hush money criminal trial, the adult actress has remained in hiding, refusing to talk. But after bringing down the world’s once most powerful man, Stormy, 45, said that despite how justice has been served, she will never escape the death threats from Trump’s supporters.

'Miracle' operation reverses blindness in three-year-old girl giving her 'promising' future

daily_mirror
commented

A three year old with a genetic condition that causes blindness is doing incredibly well after unique pioneering operation to restore her sight. The UK is the only country performing keyhole eye surgery to inject healthy copies of a gene into sufferers’ eyes.

It is being used to reverse blindness in children born with a rare condition which means they can only distinguish between light and dark.

And it has given little Khadijah Chaudhry, born with Leber congenital amaurosis-4, a chance at seeing properly again. The condition affects about one in 40,000 babies and causes cells in the retina to die off by the age of four.

Khadijah’s dad, Muhammad Muddassir, said: “Khadijah was just two years old when she was diagnosed. When she was a baby, we noticed she was moving her eyes abnormally, and her vision was slowly deteriorating over time. She still had some functional vision, and could play and walk independently but always supervised.“Her eyesight was affecting her confidence and having her parents around reassured her, as her confidence dipped when she was by herself.

The technique is so new, it is not yet licenced for general use. More data is collected on its long-term effectiveness. Lead surgeon Neruban Kumaran said: “We’re really pleased with how Khadijah’s surgeries went. Her mother and father have already noticed an improvement in her vision, which is very promising.

Businessman forced to go home half naked after thief nicks clothes from posh spa

daily_mirror
commented

A wealthy entrepreneur says he left a popular health spa "half naked" after a "dirty thief" stole his clothes which were worth more than £1,000.

Tom Hartley, who owns a luxury car dealership in Overseal, claimed someone stole his items whilst he was relaxing in the spa with his wife. The businessman said his clothes were left in the lockers inside the changing room before someone "nicked" them at a health spa.

He shared his outrage in a clip on social media, which showed him exiting the spa in a dressing gown and "borrowed" slippers. He said the "dirty s**m bag thief" took off with his Hermes belt, a pair of £850 Zegna trainers and his monogrammed boxers.

Two ex-Tory donors to profit from £6.4million Home Office contract for Rwanda plan

daily_mirror
commented

A pair of wealthy former Tory donors are set to profit from a £6.4million Home Office contract to practice forcing asylum seekers onto planes to Rwanda.

The Mirror revealed earlier this year that the Government had taken over a vast film studio at the disused Cardington airfield ahead of the deportation training. Security firm Mitie will work with elite prison “riot squad officers to train up escorts in the former hanger building containing three airplane fuselages.

Now details of the £6,425,285 contract for the “provision of facilities for Use of Force training, which started in October and runs until the end of 2024, have been published. It was signed with HCP LR Cardington LP, a property partnership with complex ownership but linked to a pair of super-rich Tory donors.

The “HCP stands for Hackman Capital Partners, a privately-owned property investment firm based in Los Angeles which specialises in film and TV studios. The “LR stands for UK-based London and Regional Properties, which is owned by billionaire brothers Ian and Richard Livingstone.

Car mechanic becomes best mates with injured seagull after nursing it back to health

daily_mirror
commented

An animal-loving car mechanic has become best pals with a pet seagull after nursing the injured fowl back to health.

Bruce Garden, 54, saved the seabird when he found her with a badly damaged wing on the industrial estate where he mends vehicles. The feathered friend, who he named 'Hopeful', has since taken up residence in his garage - and now has a varied diet of muscles, baby bells cheese and mints.

And she has even become a hit with customers, who love seeing her strutting around the workshop while they get their cars fixed. Bruce said: "She came in and has been part of the furniture ever since. She definitely has a personality. When I'm sitting in the chair in the workshop area of the garage, she will come over and sit on the jack close to me or peck my feet."

  1. There used to be a pizza place that cooked them as you watched that I went to after falling out of the Quay Club. So a mini spicy beef pizza from there.

  2. Chocolate.

  3. Janners, innit. Cornwall's worse.

When I was a reporter, I had in my overnight bag: knickers, toothbrush, pencil (only recording device that works in the rain), evening dress, wellington boots, Scotch egg, passport

Covers all possible bases, that lot.

Yeah, Jemima Khan went off on one and when I explained I was anonymous because I needed to pay a thing called "a mortgage" she blocked me. Oh and Nadine Dorries thought she would tweet about how ugly I was in real life. She'd never met me!
