GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) has recognized agricultural educator Emily Dunkle from Greenbrier East High School with the West Virginia CTE New Teacher of the Year award.
The award is in partnership with the West Virginia Association for Career and Technical Education (WVACTE). Dunkle was honored in a ceremony at the school Thursday.
The New Teacher of the Year award recognizes an instructor who has less than five years of teaching experience for their contributions and leadership in career technical education (CTE).
“As an up-and-coming educator, Mrs. Dunkle already demonstrates the characteristics of an excellent, innovative and inspirational veteran teacher,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele Blatt. “She has a full and storied career ahead where she will inspire generations of students and guide them toward success.”
Dunkle is an FFA advisor at Greenbrier East High School. She earned her Associate of Arts in Agriculture from Potomac State College of West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from West Virginia University. Dunkle was also recently awarded with the 2023 Teacher Turn the Key Award by the National Association of Agriculture Educators.
By winning the New Teacher of the Year, Dunkle has now become a candidate for the Regional CTE New Teacher of the Year award and has the opportunity to compete for the national award.
Culinary arts instructor Lynette Jones from the Putnam County Career and Technical Center was recognized earlier this week as the West Virginia CTE Teacher of the Year. Jones is an educator with five or more years of experience.
