Hey there. Im not usually a fan of Netflix produced movies because of their agressively homogenous feel but I just watched "Don't Look Up" by Adam McKay and this movie struck a chord. This is the first time I've watched a disaster film and thought this is really how the western world (and the World) would have reacted (during the last 4 years or so), would still react, and is reacting at the moment to a mass extinction event. It's like the overall tone was perfectly woven.
I found it hilarious and the jokes to be very well written but It kind of hit me hard. I feel that in light of the current events and with the shit that went down during the last 5 years or so the 3 main characters are terribly identifiable. As a satire, it isn't always very subtle, but it's too far rooted in reality as far as Im concerned to be truely deemed "cynical". And thus it gets its point across quite vividly. (Which reminded of Sorry to Bother You in that regard, which I also loved)
Just like you I presume, I've had my share of similar themed big blockbuster movies and my expectations were low, but I found it is unlike any of that. It's sort of more "mature" while still being a comedy. The cinematography was alright (lots of meh shots and even some continuity errors, mostly sound related) but It really felt like a smooth and pleasant watch and had very pretty colors. All in all, its depiction of contemporaneous social and political division is perfect, very accurate and absolutely probable.
And the entire soundtrack is a blast ! Really gets you going.
Although quite chilling, it is the best movie I've seen the whole month and probably one the best Netflix movies I've watched.
Tell me what you think, and if you already have, feel free to discuss. How did it make you feel ?
Edit: grammar
Edit 2 : I would like to point out that personally I kind of watched this movie as it is, meaning trough the comet narrative. It didnt make me feel as if I had been contemplating a giant billboard with the words "Climate Change Metaphor" written all over it. Sure I could easily guess what they were going for, but the entire film doesnt have to be viewed trough the lens of the most accurate interpretation. I would argue that above everything when watching a movie there's an experience to be had, good or bad (or everything in between). This movie can be pretty funny at times but it also paints a gloomy picture so I was sort of wondering how it made everyone feel, regardless of the meaning and political subtext.

I Am A, where the mundane becomes fascinating and the outrageous suddenly seems normal.
Thank you everyone for your questions. I gotta say, it was liberating to not be bound by the 140 limit. In the future we have to do one of these that's all about basketball and the movie KUNG FU HUSTLE. Go see ANCHORMAN 2 (unless you don't like love songs to sharks).
I'm a writer, director, co-founder of Funny or Die. We have a new movie out now…ANCHORMAN 2.
For years and years, fans we're asking for more Ron Burgundy. Finally we got wise and made the sequel. If you want to see the movie you can buy tickets here:
If you don't want to see the movie, here's a link to Steve Coogan's movie PHILOMENA:
I am also a huge basketball and boxing fan as well as a foodie and into politics. I just bought a Tesla, need to lose 20 pounds and my dog's mouth smells like a sewer.

“We think that Charlotte Brandstrom, the director, and Alex Disenhof, the cinematographer, did an incredible job with the seventh episode,” he says. “You’ll see who survives [the Mt. Doom eruption] and there are some unlikely pairing of characters. The episode is about consequences and Galadriel is facing the consequences of her judgment.”

What pairings can we expect? Will Galadriel change the way she goes about her mission?
