I’m thinking of buying a Fiat 500 Abarth with a manual transmission. It seems like a fun car, but how reliable are they? Are parts hard to find since they’re not sold in the US anymore? Please let me know your experiences with these and which model years should be avoided?
Thank you

and boy do I love her.
After about a month of hounding reviews, forums, tech specs, videos, basically ANY information I could get on the 2016 Mazda MX-5 and the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, I finally signed the final papers yesterday and drove it home.
Prior to this I owned an Automatic 2014 Mazda 6 I put towards trade-in (no longer really need 4 doors and I'm at a point in my life I miss the convertible I had as a teen), and in that car I was pretty much always driving about in manu-matic mode. I've driven the hell out of race simulators as well in my spare time, but as far as actual manual experience?
Well, the only behind-the-wheel manual driving experience I've had really consisted of 10-years-ago my father trying to get me to learn on his then-new Porsche twin turbo and I was terrified of breaking it so that didn't go too well. Past that, all I've had for manual experience is a 1.5 hour lesson from someone on Craigslist and the 3-4 test drives of the MX-5 / Fiat before I made the purchase decision.
I've gotta say; At first I was really nervous about the transition, but every time I drove again I felt more confident in myself, and bringing it home last night had not a single issue. (Well, ok, maybe a not-so-smooth attempt at a rev-matched downshift here and there from 3rd to 2nd...)
Now here I am at work the next morning, once again no real issues having driven here, and all I can think is how much I want to skip out on work and go for a nice long drive to nowhere but twisty roads. 35 degrees out? Fuck it, lets put the top down, seat heater on, throw on some gloves, and go for a spin.
If anyone has any questions about the car, feel free to ask. Me? I'm just happy I have a car I got a great deal on and avoided a really shitty salesman at a dealer who tried to pressure me into a sale; Them boys at Fiat were really friendly compared to what I experienced at a Mazda dealer nearby (but that's a tale for another time I suppose).

r/CarTalkUK is the definitive subreddit for British petrolheads and inquisitive car drivers alike!
Pros of the MX5 include 2 seats, convertible, rear wheel drive, less jokes about driving a fiat 500
Pros of the abarth are bucket seats, better exhaust note, quicker, and I drove a fiat 500e once and actually really loved it
Which would you pick of the two? They’re both sub 15k and I don’t care about practicality as I’m young and dumb. My plan is to get one of these and then once the current gen M240i gets down to 20k chuck it in for one of those
A subreddit for all those who have owned, driven, raced, admired, or had anything ever to do with a Mazda MX-5.
grazie mille a chi risponde!
