The NFL today is almost like a different game compared to the way it was played back in the day. The players were often bloody and muddy, the quarterbacks weren’t treated like fragile primadonnas, and the logos and lore were legendary. If you are nostalgic for the Gridiron greatness of the past, this sub is for you.

Top 5 team needs: EDGE, WR, FS, IOL, DT Projected salary cap post draft pick signings: $44 million
EDGE - Bryce Huff or Danielle Hunter WR - Curtis Samuel + draft Rome or Nabers FS - Sign veteran on cheap short term deal IOL - Lloyd Cushenberry DT - Justin Jones
Spotrac contract projection*
Bryce Huff - 4 years, $37M* ($9.3M per year) OR Danielle Hunter - 3 years, $60M* ($20M per year) Curtis Samuel - 3 years, $34.5M* ($11.5M per year) Lloyd Cushenberry - 4 years, $32.9M* ($8.2M per year) Justin Jones - 2 years, $10M ($5M per year)
EDIT: After many Lloyd Cushenberry comments, did some soul searching and I’m fully on board. Get a top center for our rookie QB. Replaced him and removed Geno Stone. FS is the position I care the least about. Sign an aging vet on a cheap deal.
Bryce Huff’s contract projection from Spotrac seems off. I’d imagine it’s somewhere close to the middle of $9.3M a year and Danielle Hunter’s $20M projection.
I’ve seen quite a bit of Christian Wilkins love, which is understandable. I just think signing a top EDGE option should be the higher priority in FA given the greater need with the current roster. Gervon Dexter came on late last year and I’d prefer to see him in an expanded role alongside Andrew Billings at NT. I’d be fine with a FA DT at a similar price point to Justin Jones to rotate with Dexter and Billings.
The Bears badly need another veteran WR. Love the fit with Curtis Samuel who will slide into the slot role alongside DJ Moore and Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze.
FS is the position I care the least about attacking this offseason. Fine with a cheap one year deal for an aging veteran, and just as fine with splurging a bit on a younger player like Geno Stone.
There are many ways to approach this offseason with pick 9 being a bit of a wildcard. What’s your preferred route at EDGE, WR, FS, IOL, and DT?
