At a Thursday evening emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, the US voted to block a draft statement that noted “deep concern” at the deaths “due to opening fire from Israel.” According to Palestinian UN ambassador Riyad Mansour, 14 of the Security Council’s 15 members were prepared to back the statement.
