On paper you guys have a good mix of young talent and vets with a good coach and a good gm. Whitmore from Villanova was a no doubt steal in the draft, what happened this season? I’m pretty sure you guys are going to be better and in the playoff mix next year.

I feel like this is so much better than tales from the couch. Some of the questions aren’t the best but it’s way more structured and you don’t get as many 3rd quarter substitution patterns on the Bucks vs Wizards

News and discussions about the University of Alabama Crimson Tide athletics.
Here’s how Bama hoopers did in the NBA and G-League last month. The stat line for each player below is from the month of February. Added some highlight links as well this month.
NBA:
Keon Ellis: 0.7 PPG/ 1.0 REB/ 0.7 AST/ 27.8 TS% in 7.5 MPG
Rundown: Keon continued to be far down the bench with many DNPs for the Kings this month, but one good sign is the 24 year old has not been dropped to the G-League this year
Herb Jones: 13.6 PPG/ 4.2 REB/ 2.5 AST/ 72.8 TS% in 33.3 MPG
Rundown: I mentioned last month how Herb had his best true shooting month of his career, he proceeded to outdo himself while playing a season high in minutes per game. He shot a blazing hot 54.8% from 3 and 57.6% from the floor and also had two games with 5 and flashing that All-NBA defense that he deserves the nod for this season.
Brandon Miller: 20.5 PPG/ 4.5 REB/ 2.5 AST/ 56.1 TS% in 34.5 MPG
Rundown: Brandon put together the best month of his young career and . His Usage Rate and minutes were the highest this season and he delivered to 30 point games at the beginning of the month. He has cooled since the All-Star break and been a bit of a chucker, but it’s only a five game stretch, and who else would you want chucking if you’re a Hornets fan? I imagine he’ll win another Eastern Conference rookie of the month when it’s announced today or tomorrow.
Collin Sexton: 20.3 PPG/ 2.1 REB/ 5.5 AST/ 62.9 TS% in 27.2MPG
Rundown: Sexton has been a model of consistency over the past three months, averaging just over 20 points and shooting a TS% of 63% in each month. He had his best 3 PT shooting month at 47.1%, a number that has ticked up throughout the season, and is aided by performances . Sexton’s role will continue to be vital as they’re just on the outside of the play-in tournament.
G-League:
Noah Clowney: 15.0 PPG/ 7.0 REB/ 3.2 AST/ 42.9% FG in 30.6 MPG
Rundown: Clowney only played five G-League games this month and didn’t have his best month from the floor, but he was outstanding on defense averaging 2.8 blocks per game. He did play in four NBA games for the Nets, but played a small role.
JD Davison: 21.5 PPG/ 5.6 REB/ 8.1 AST/ 46% FG in 34.5 MPG
Rundown: Davison’s numbers this month were very similar to last month, continuing to be a great scorer and passer for the Maine Celtics including a . He’s still 4th in the league in assists per game, top 25 in scoring, and of course
Kira Lewis: 16.5 PPG/ 2.0 REB/ 4.0 AST/ 61.9% FG in 28.2 MPG
Kira played in 2 games at the G-League level before being traded a second time this season, this time from the Raptors to the Jazz. The Jazz seem to be using him similarly to Keon Ellis as he has only played six minutes across three games for the Jazz, but still remains on the NBA roster at the end of the bench.
Joshua Primo: 13.7 PPG/ 4.4 REB/ 2.3 AST/ 42.4 FG%
Primo had a rough month, shooting just 42% from the floor and 32% from 3. Primo did average less than a turnover a game, but still has not found his way onto the loaded Clippers roster.
Alex Reese: 13.4 PPG/ 4.1 REB/ 0.5 AST/ 42.5 FG% in 17.9 MPG
Reese continues to play a solid bench role for the Rip City Remix by shooting over 40% from 3, including a 25 point performance in just 21 minutes on Tuesday.
Jaden Shackelford: 18.6 PPG/ 3.0 AST/ 3.0 REB/ 45.4 FG% in 28.1 MPG
Shack was a sniper this month, averaging 45.7% from 3 with over 10 3PA per game in February. He had three games with more than 20 points, but his role is limited beyond shooting 3, as he had only 3.4 2PA per game in February.

We often talk about players in drafts being projects, and given the lack of hype around this draft, I’m guessing that’s the case for quite a few of these guys. However, I’d still like to know what players you think can be rotation players right away?

I was listening to Greeny on ESPN this morning, and he and Hembo went off on a tangent about ways to make the NBA all-star game more competitive. They brought up the idea that the winning conference should have home court in the finals, like the MLB does. This concept itself isn’t crazy, but it’s the reasoning they gave that pissed me off and motivated me to dive into this.
Their reasoning was that, in their collective opinion, the Celtics are (and I’m directly quoting here) “Clearly not the best team in the league due to their weaker schedule as an Eastern Conference team.” They then went on and on about how much stronger the West is than the East (at the bottom, true, but at the top not so much considering the lack of playoff experience other than Denver) and spewed off a bunch of incorrect stats about projected wins and “Quality of wins” failing to mention that the Celtics have beaten the majority of the top teams in the West handily this season, and that even though teams do typically play 18 more games in their own conference during the regular season (50 to 32 IIRC) SOS isn’t as much of a thing in the NBA as it is in the NFL because every team plays all 29 opponents at home and on the road at least once. They clearly use their wider knowledge base from other sports (mainly the NFL, the most popular sport in the US) to frame opinions about the NBA, causing them to spew nonsense like this.
It’s almost like they’re hating on the Celtics for making deep runs every year and writing them off because, as many of you on this sub have correctly identified, some people still think JT isn’t a legit number one because he isn’t flashy to watch and he doesn’t really have that one crazy unique skill. He just, you know, casually averages 28/9/5 and plays great defense for the (BY FAR) #1 NBA team without trying.
This could be chalked up to BS Celtics hate, but there are other NBA discussions frequently spewed amongst talking heads which really cause me to believe that they don’t watch games and just follow the handful of players who generate exciting headlines. Especially when it comes time for awards/All-NBA voting and draft projections these guys say some pretty wild shit. Rant over lol apologies for the length, just your prototypical white Irish triggered Boston Sports Fan 😂 🍀

Headed up to vacation for a weekend away with the in-laws, but feel like dropping a bit of a breakdown with the new no late-swap contests being added for tonight.
March 1st NBA Breakdown
-
First non-late swap slate so you need to be careful with how you attack things. Risk management will be key
-
PG: Jordan Goodwin: everyone is out for Memphis tonight and he is playing at an insane level for the price. Easy matchup against a depleted Portland team means easier time picking up points and peripherals
-
SG: Vince Williams: Similar to Goodwin, but will likely get more usage with no JJJ, Kennard and others. He has a massive ceiling in this Portland matchup for sure.
-
SF: Jayson Tatum: might be a homer pick being in Boston, but you have the value and this is a prime matchup with a massive implied total where Tatum has a ceiling. Other spend ups dont quite have the same matchup as Tatum so lock and load on him.
-
PF: Jerami Grant: No Sharpe, Scoot, Brogdon or Ayton here. Grant will get big ownership for sure, but well worth it. Memphis sucks, but so does Portland, so Grant will likely get huge minutes, usage, everything.
-
C: Duop Reath or Jakob Poeltl: I love both in there respective spots. No Ayton so Reath should get the start, plenty of minutes and is super cheap. Memphis doesnt have a C either so he should be a great value. Poeltl is a bit more expensive, but should be well worth the price. He’s been playing great with 48, 37 and 42 DK points in the last 3 games. Pace up spot against GS who doesnt run a traditional C so Poeltl should get a ton of rebound opportunities and be almost a shoe-in for a double double. At this price, he is a great option
-
Huge leverage if an injury opens up post-lock: Kyrie Irving with Luka out, Cleveland Gs and Mobley/Allen with Mitchell/LeVert out, Sabonis with Fox out, Towns/NWA/Conley with Edwards out
-
Other guys I really like: Haliburton, Scottie Barnes, Maxey, Zion/Ingram/CJ, Porzingis, Barrett, Garland, Klay/CP3, cheap Grizzles, cheap Blazers
Good luck tonight!
