It makes perfect sense why Arthur Blank is leaning towards Belichick and here's why

Arthur Blank is 81. There's no getting around that his time working with the Falcons is beginning to run thin, and he doesn't have a lot of time to wait around and take big chances. This is corroborated by reporting late in the season that Blank was not eager to have another regime change as it may reset the clock for our window to compete yet again, or even close it if the hire goes poorly. Blank simply does not have the time to wait through another Falcons low period.

In comes Belichick. Belichick is 71, and very likely near the end of his coaching career. As a result of their somewhat similar age Blank can reasonably assume that Belichick's window to compete for a Super Bowl is more similar to Blank's than it is different. He would be looking to compete extremely soon as he also doesn't have a long timeline left in the league.

Similarly, with Blank's old age he may see it as much more risky to take on a young unproven coach. As, if this coaching hire fails again, he could easily run out of time before seeing the Falcons truly compete. Instead, Blank can hire what he sees as a proven commodity in Belichick. This would be significantly lower risk than taking on a young, unproven coach, and give Blank the highest probability to see the Falcons actually compete during this next coaching era.

I certainly don't agree with this being the "best" option for the team long term, and we can all agree that Blank is being at least a little bit selfish by framing the choice around his own timeframe. However, the reasoning here makes perfect sense and I think it is very obvious why Blank and the front office seem to be pushing so hard for Belichick as the next Falcons coach. Now we just have to wait and see how this shakes out.
