Rules

No incivility

Our top priority as a community is to be a calm, healing place. We do not allow rudeness, snarkiness, hurtful sarcasm, or argumentativeness. Please remain civil in all discussion.

No self-promotion

Please do not link to any self-authored blogs, facebook groups, books, etc. No commercial AMAs.

If you want to share important news that you've posted on your blog, you can enter your submission as a text post, rather than as a blog link. So long as you don't link back or refer to your work, then it's OK, even if the content is the same.

As a general rule, if it's not worth sharing without advertising the source, then it's not worth sharing. That's basically the whole point, after all.

No fundraising

No charity appeals, kick starters, or donation requests.

No spam

Spam can be hard to define; honest product reviews are welcome. Advocacy is OK if it manages to avoid donation seeking. Posts from people who are members of our community are given more latitude but it always comes down to a moderator's judgement call.

No trolling

Discussion crosses the line into trolling when the greater intent of the poster is to stir up trouble, rather than to challenge an idea or opinion.

Trolling is a major threat to free discussion, in part because it can make discussion impossible, and in part because efforts to control trolling become a form of censorship in themselves. Trolling is distinguished by a desire to harm others, and it is the desire to harm, not the content of the ideas, which constitutes a violation of our rules.

No recruitment of study participants without permission

Solicitation of patients to participate in research must be approved by the moderators prior to posting. The purpose of this rule is to protect patients from giving their personal and health information to an imposter, and to ensure proper participant privacy.

No sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or racism

No misinformation

Blatant misinformation is not permitted. While acknowledging (and acutely experiencing) the limitations of medical and scientific knowledge, we do not allow the promotion of un- or anti-scientific propaganda.

No overly graphic titles

Descriptions of self-harm or abuse are not permitted in titles as they can be traumatizing.

No URL shorteners or affiliate links

URL shorteners are links to a domain, like a.co or t.co, that expand to a different domain, like amazon.com or twitter.com, that serve to obscure the actual destination URL, and can mask undesirable aspects like affiliate links, which are also not allowed.
