A Look Back at the WCFU: Lessons To Consider?

We started this blog in large part due to the emergence of the Aryan Guard in Calgary, Alberta because at the time we really were concerned that this gang would be a real threat to public safety. While this has been the case far too many times, the reality is that the Aryan Guard soon became the laughing stock of the, "White Nationalist" movement in Canada. Sex scandals (including not only McKee's tryst, but allegations of underage sex from people close to the gang), drug use and rampant alcohol abuse, constant infighting with other groups, founding members leaving and other forming rival groups which are even more embarrassing, and numerous arrests, not to mention some younger groupies coming to their senses and leaving the lifestyle behind, all of which took their toll and ultimately lead to gang basically dissolving and leaving only a few to claim membership.

That the Aryan Guard had lasted from late 2006 to almost 2010 (and, if you're to believe the ghost town that is their website, still exists) is remarkable considering the incompetence of the leadership, the animosity they engendered from other WN groups, the transitory nature of the membership, and violent acts that some of the membership was involved with. Sadly, while the Aryan Guard is rightly regarded with a healthy combination of contempt and ridicule, some real damage was done to individuals victimized by the gang as well as the reputation of Calgary and the province.

It never had to be like this.

The Aryan Guard was not the first group of it's kind to come into existence in Canada. Only 2 years before the Aryan Guard was founded by McKee, Price, and Reitmeier, another group tried to make an impact in Alberta.

Western Canada For Us (WCFU) was founded in early 2004. Their leadership under Glenn Bahr was an older and more stable than the drunken idiots and teenagers who made up the Aryan Guard. Like the Aryan Guard, WCFU held a rally in March (in the WCFU case the rally was in support of Ernst Zundel, pictured on the left, and was coordinated with a rally in Toronto organized by Melissa Guille). Bahr was courted by the media and was the guest of a nationally syndicated radio show. The WCFU even had serious plans to expand into other provinces with chapters already designated in British Columbia and Manitoba (though these efforts weren't particularly successful).

The WCFU had few of the Aryan Guard's problems, at least outwardly (co-founder Peter Kouba was ousted after a disagreement regarding the direction of the WCFU) and a lot of advantages.

The Aryan Guard lasted until December 2009 and the remnants remain active.

The WCFU lasted no more than 5 months and most of the original membership has remained silent since.

So, what happened? How did one group collapse so quickly while another filled with miscreant losers hold out for three years?

The answer to that might be a tale of two hate crimes divisions.

In Calgary the Aryan Guard were able to seemingly act with impunity, at least to some observers. Even when it's members were committing crimes (some of which were on film) the division that deals with hate crimes didn't seem to be all that focused on shutting the group down. We can speculate about the reasons; manpower, limited ability to collect intelligence, complacency, budget crunch, or any other reason or combination of reasons could have been factors. The fact remains that the Aryan Guard fell apart on it's own, but before it did, there were assaults, suspected firebombs and vandalism.

By comparison, the division that deals with hate crimes in Edmonton were very quick to recognize the potential threat the WCFU posed and moved quickly to gather the appropriate intelligence and evidence. Once done, they moved to shut down the WCFU.

Three years vs. five months.

We would ask our readers to examine the document and ask themselves if there's a great deal of difference between the evidence used to shut down the WCFU and the same kind of evidence that the Aryan Guard left for investigators on their own website and other websites:

We've taken a stance regarding support for the police that isn't always shared by other anti-racist organizations. They know our position, we know theirs and we can respect our differences in opinion. The purpose of this article isn't to beat up on the police in Calgary or to praise the police in Edmonton. What we would like to see is that police departments throughout this country take these groups seriously. We don't need the membership of these gangs to hurt someone or damage someone's property before taking action. Legislation already exists to deal with groups like the Aryan Guard and Western Canada For Us.

Let's try to think a little outside of the box.

Update on Kyle McKee: March 30, 2010

We've been receiving bits and pieces of information concerning Kyle McKee who was recently released from the Calgary Remand Centre (he had been incarcerated on attempted murder and weapons charges, though those charges were dropped when McKee plead guilty to being in possession of bomb making materials). One message we received stated that McKee was seen speaking to a woman at an apartment complex and that McKee had grown out his hair.

Today McKee, or someone claiming to be McKee, posted a message on Stormfront today in the thread in which Paul Fromm announced McKee's release. We write, "someone claiming" based on the fact that Natalie S. had posted a couple of messages in February using McKee's Stormfront account. So how can we be sure that it is McKee this time?

Well the functional illiteracy pretty much confirms that it is McKee writing (friendly suggestion, Kyle, is that you let Natalie S. proof read your posts before you publish them).

McKee appears to be pretty smug, doesn't he? But then considering he has beaten attempted murder charges and weapons charges, isn't permitted to associate with two people only (the target of the bombing and his then 17 year old co-accused) and he only has a single year of probation, we don't know if we can blame him.

Except....

Turns out, there are a few other conditions imposed on McKee. First McKee has been given a 10 year firearm prohibition. Second, and more interesting, is that it's been reported that one of the conditions for the Crown dropping charges was that McKee would provide information about his fellow travellers. As the charges were dropped, we can only assume that he lived up to his side of the agreement.

The waters are still a little muddied for other "White Nationalists." While Paulie was trumpeting McKee's release on Stormfront, he was doing so on his Facebook page as well. It appears that not all completely trust that McKee is completely innocent of the crimes for which he was charged, a double sin considering he was accused of attacking other members of, "the Movement":

The entire truth hasn't come out yet? It seems that Paulie might know more about the case than he's made known. Perhaps he'd be willing to sit down with police investigators and provide them with that information? After all, we can't have people bombing others now, can we? And goodness knows that Paulie, as a well-respected member of, "the Movement" would not want to be associated with such unsavoury criminal activities.

As for McKee, he writes that, "the boots are back on the ground and and we are giveing [sic] this city HELL." Kyle, who is "we"? From what we determine, most of the founding members of the Aryan Guard have left. Ryan is gone. So is Dallas. We can't see Rob having anything to do with you. Bill Noble, while celebrating your release, is the moderator of a forum for an Edmonton based "group" (though it might be a stretch to say they're organized to any significant degree) that can't stand you or the Aryan Guard. You've got Marleau still, but really what is he worth? At best, you have a few teenagers.

That doesn't mean that you can't still get into, or cause, some trouble, but it does mean that the Aryan Guard and any new movement you try to start are lame ducks.

Aryan Guard Had Planned to Set Up a Paramilitary Camp?

Okay, so the headline for this article might be a bit melodramatic. We'll explain.

Not surprisingly, the murder of Eugène Terre'Blanche has set off the racist set, including here at home. That Terre'Blanche's death MAY have been the result of him raping a male teen worker on his farm after having plied him with alcohol (an accusation also being made by a young white member of Terre'Blanche's own AWB) seems to be of little concern. Smear campaign, propaganda, Jewish conspiracy yadda yadda yadda. Nothing all that original from their side, so we'll move on.

Terre'Blanchewas a significant figure in the racist movement not only in South Africa, but as a figure revered and respected by his fellow travelers internationally, in large part because of the AWB was essentially a paramilitary organization who's members received training in AWB camps. A lot of boneheads want to emulate Terre'Blanche's efforts:


Well, if John Marleau is to be believed, the Aryan Guard tried to establish such a camp in Canada, presumably in Alberta:


Now we know the organizational skills of the Aryan Guard was, and is more so now, limited at best. In fact, we doubt the planning ever moved much beyond drunken ramblings about how cool it would be to start paramilitary training in preparation for Rahowa. Still, it does give one pause for thought when Marleau considers these people to be heroes and martyrs for the cause:


And also consider that members (and former members) of the Aryan Guard had somewhat of a gun fetish:

We don't think for a moment that these clowns would be able to overthrow a school board meeting, but given the pipe bomb incident in November 2009, as well as the assaults that Aryan Guard members have engaged in, we can't exactly say that these people weren't dangerous to individuals.

Aryan Guard: Who Is Responsible?

We're under no illusions that just because the Aryan Guard has disbanded that this will spell the end of the neo-Nazi threat in Calgary and the surrounding area. Individual members may have scattered, but they're still a problem. Bill Noble is still free. John Marleau, likely feeling like a walking target, is still on the streets. Members of W.E.B. still need to be dealt with. And the teenagers and other young people drawn into the Aryan Guard still have to be addressed.

However, at this point we would like to ask the question, "who is responsible?"

When we decide to apportion responsibility for the growth of the Aryan Guard and the poisonous influence that it has had on youth within Calgary and the surrounding area, we can point to a number of individuals; the "adults" within the Aryan Guard such as McKee, Noble, Price, Marleau and others certainly are at fault for warping the minds of the youth who came under their influence. However, we would also suggest another individual as being responsible. A man, viewed with respect in the Canadian White Power movement, who was once a teacher and in a position of authority over teens.

We believe that Paul Fromm (pictured on the left alongside former Klansman, Louisiana State senator, and convicted felon David Duke) has a great deal to answer for. While perhaps not criminally responsible, his encouragement of the Aryan Guard and their tactics regarding the recruitment of children into the gang's ranks certainly makes him morally responsible for much of the chaos that has resulted from the gang's three years of existence. Here are but a few of the encounters that Paulie had with the Aryan Guard over the past three years of the gang's existence. We would ask our readers to consider they would want a man such as this teaching their own children:

Paul Fromm Continues to Promote The Aryan Guard

Paulie has been in Alberta speaking at various "free speech" engagements this week. He was just in Edmonton yesterday. On Sunday, he spoke in Calgary:

I'm elated. We had another tremendous meeting in Calgary today. I complimented the Aryan Guard for putting Alberta on the map as the heartland of White Pride.

This isn't the first time Fromm has promoted the Aryan Guard. In fact as the recent article from "The Intelligence Report" noted Fromm, along with Terry Tremaine, assisted in the formation of the gang:

You know, somehow we don't think the people of Alberta wants the Aryan Guard to put their province on the map.

"The Intelligence Report" of the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center has written an exposé on Calgary's Aryan Guard in their Summer 2009 issue. We're happy to state that we played some small part in contributing to the research for the article. Others who contributed their time and knowledge include Jason Devine (spokesperson for the Calgary ARA), Edmonton Police Sgt. Stephen Camp (co-chair of the Alberta Hate Crime Committee), Valerie Pruegger, Constable Lynn MacDonald (hate crimes coordinator for the Calgary Police Service) and Cam Stewart (author OF a hate crimes report commissioned by the Alberta Hate and Bias Crime Incidents Committee).

MacDonald said the Aryan Guard has also received ongoing support from Christian Waters, a leader of the Canadian branch of the Brotherhood of Klans Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Headquartered in Marion, Ohio, that group has emerged as the largest Klan organization in the United States.

The true danger posed by the Aryan Guard comes not from its public activities, but from its more clandestine ones. A man reached at the Aryan Guard's contact number refused to answer most questions during a brief interview, but repeated the group's opposition to violence.

Yet the group's history of criminal activity belies that assertion. According to the Calgary Police Service, the Aryan Guard has been linked to several assaults between late 2006 and mid-2008. The victims have included a homeless man, a gay community member, and a cab driver from North Africa, MacDonald said.
Writing about the latter incident on Stormfront on July 20, 2007, McKee — who'd been charged in connection with the attack, though he claimed a good friend was actually responsible — boasted about getting the case dismissed. "The reason being was that they couldn't make a positive ID because apparently everyone there was all dressed in combat boots with white laces [and] black flight jackets and all had shaved heads. So let this be a lesson to anyone who wonders why on earth all us skinheads dress so similarly. [T]his is another great reason. lol [laughing out loud]"

The incident that has received the most publicity involved an assault on a Japanese visitor in her mid-20s, Asako Okazaki, when she left a bar shortly after midnight in July 2008. A 17-year-old Aryan Guard member — who was convicted in March but has not been publicly identified because he was a juvenile — kicked the woman in the back of the head with steel-toed boots. According to court testimony, the attacker followed the woman out of the bar after making a disparaging remark about Asians. At the time of his arrest he was wearing boots with red laces — a skinhead symbol indicating he'd spilled blood for the movement.

The group's propensity for criminal activity is no surprise given that many members have histories of vandalism and assault. Two of the group's most prominent members, McKee and Dallas Price, faced assault and weapons charges in connection with a September 2006 confrontation in which one victim was hit with a wooden club and another was stabbed with a knife. Robert Reitmeier, also active in the group, was charged with attempted murder in connection with a November 2006 assault on a man who suffered skull and facial fractures. Member Bill Noble was convicted in 2008 of posting hate material on the Internet that primarily targeted non-whites, Jews and gays. A judge sentenced him to four months in jail and imposed limits on his computer use for three years, though Noble continues to post frequently on Stormfront.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has been instrumental over the years in the effort to combat racism and bigotry in the United States. Some of their greatest achievments on the legal front have included the successful suits against the Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, White Aryan Resistance, the United Klans of America, Christian Knights of the KKK, Aryan Nations, Imperial Klans of America and many others which effectively destroyed each group.

Perhaps now, with the Aryan Guard as the focus of an international publication, the gear of justice will start to turn a little bit faster.

The Decline of the Aryan Guard: Part 3

The previous article on the Aryan Guard focused on the infighting between members and those who have abandoned the racist gang. The final article of this three part series will feature the criminal behaviour of the Aryan Guard.

As we have reported in the past on this blog, members of the Aryan Guard are no strangers to the criminal justice system. Thomas Trenerry has spent time in prison on criminal charges and had his sentenced increased as a result of a prison escape. Kyle McKee and Dallas Price have criminal convictions and were both implicated in an assault using weapons in 2006. Later that year, Robert Reitmeier was charged with attempted murder in the case of a beating which left a man in his 40s unconscious (we don’t know if the man survived the attack or if he remains in a coma, though charges against Reitmeier appear to have been stayed). R.N was convicted of various crimes early this past year and appears to either be on probation. One of the founders of the Aryan Guard, a person who’s name is Jan Korinth and who posts online as “boywhite” was arrested and placed in the Calgary Remand Centre not long after he moved from BC to Calgary. After some efforts to try and make bail for his release, the Aryan Guard has failed to mention Jan’s name since and his current fate and whereabouts is currently unknown.

The Decline of the Aryan Guard: Part 2

We continue with part two of our part three series on the continuing collapse of the Aryan Guard.

The troubles of the Aryan Guard in recent days have been evident, but even we didn’t realize just how bad things were getting for them until the third week of September. We’ve discussed some of the infighting and rifts between people previously associated with the Aryan Guard such as Melissa Brow and "rippler2k3", but in recent days we’ve been hearing rumours of youths getting tired of the Aryan Guard and leaving as well as some of the worst infighting among Aryan Guard members (or former members depending upon whom one listens to) that we’ve seen yet. We’ll begin first with those who are rumoured to have left the Aryan Guard.

The first individual associated with the Aryan Guard whom we had heard had left the organization is a bonehead going by the initials B.L. We’ve noted that B.L.’s mother is someone who appears to be a progressive and, as such, likely never approved of his involvement with an overt racist gang. Seems we were right, as B.L.’s involvement with the Aryan Guard resulted in a rift between himself and his family to the point that they wouldn’t have anything to do with him so long as he continued to be involved with the Aryan Guard. Estrangement from his family appears to have given B.L. cause to reconsider his involvement with organized racism and he has, if the rumours are true, decided to leave the group in order to try and reconcile with his family.

The second individual rumoured to have left the Aryan Guard is M.J., an Aryan Guard groupie / oi toy. M.J. had been involved with the Aryan Guard for at least a year and was a member of its women’s auxiliary the Valkyrian Legion. She was also involved with Aryan Guard member Tyler Sturrup, a relationship that called into question both her judgment and good taste. Well, word on the street from a reliable source was that Miss. M.J. soon became bored with her involvement with the Aryan Guard and decided that she would rather get drunk and suck on a pacifier at raves than get drunk and suck on… well, Aryan Guard members. This rumor appeared to be confirmed when, “AryanBroad” posted the following comments on Anti-Racist Canada:

Just for the website's knowledge,
I wanted to inform everyone [M.J.], is not dating Tyler Sturrup and the stupid Bitch hasnt been around for the last 2 months or so. Along with Tyler is back in jail

and,

[M.J.] broke up with Tyler at the end of August, Im not to sure when. The reasons from what I understand is because he is an idiot and went to Jail a second time. The other time about him going to jail was about "robbery" and breaches. This time the same thing for the Breaches. Where [M.J.] is? From what the Aryan Guard and WEB understands is she is back to her old group and Raving. If she were to come back we would be suprised.

More Aryan Guard Delusions

Kyle McKee wrote the following post on Stormfront under the heading, "White Nationlist Relocation Program - Destination Calgary":

The Aryan Guard is always seeking new brothers and sisters, if you are interested in relocating to our Calgary area, we will pay the damage deposit for your residence. We believe that through fortifying our current locations with more White Nationlists we can spread the world more efficiently and than in the future branch out further throughout Canada.

If you are interested in moving to Calgary, please let us know.

First, we note that McKee, who is functionally illiterate, has someone to proof read his entries before he posts them now (either that or OdinPatrick, the Canadian forums moderator on Stormfront, has been a busy beaver). Second, the claim of support files in the face of claims made earlier by an Aryan Guard supporter who now lives in British Columbia.

Yet MORE Aryan Guard Infighting

Racist gangs are pretty notorious for their misogyny. While the men talk about brotherhood and honor, they tend not to trust the women. At best, women in the racist movement are viewed as baby factories. At worst, trojan horses who's presence will bring down the movement. Then there are the majority who seem to view women as a warm, moist place to stick their penis' in and to bring them beers. Are members of the Aryan Guard any different?

Once again, meet John Marleau, one of the more high profile members of the Aryan Guard. We've been keeping tabs on Marleau for a while now, mainly because he's a loud and obnoxious jackass who calls attention to himself.

Marleau appears to be one of those misogynists. We first noticed this when he began threatening women online who were calling him on his racist rhetoric (one woman was a 12 year old girl, though that didn't actually stop John's text assault).

Recently, Marleau proved that he would attack not only anti-racist women, but even women who claim common cause with him, including the girlfriends of his racist buddies.

The whole affair began innocently enough. Dallas Price's girlfriend Kendra uploaded a picture of herself and her friend M.J. on Facebook. M.J. stated that the two were 'sisters' presumably in the same way that the male members of the Aryan Guard were, 'brothers.' Marleau took objection to this:

Some time between April 26 and May, Tyler Sturrup was arrested and was held in custody by the police. For close to a month.

Wait. Did we say shocking update? What we meant was run of the mill ordinary news when it comes to the Aryan Guard. Our mistake.

Okay, we have to admit that we missed the boat on this one so this isn't exactly breaking news, but we are including this now as it's one more nail in the coffin.

We can add Tyler to the long, and ever growing list of Aryan Guard members who we know have spent time locked up behind bars or who have otherwise run afoul of the law:

Kyle McKee, Dallas Price, Robert Reitmeier (who has recently spent more time in jail this year), Thomas Trennery, RN, Bill Noble, and others.

For all their crying about 'non-white' crime, we think one would be far more likely to be victimized by the average Aryan Guard member than any ethnic minority one might meet on the street.

We presume that Sturrup is out by now and in the loving arms of his girlfriend M.J., a lovely young lass who likes to post nasty little messages here (under the Nom de Guerre that will remain without mention as of this September 17, 2008 edit). We'll have more later as we continue to document the simultaneous destruction from outside forces and implosion from within of the Aryan Guard.

Bill Noble Sentence to Four Months

Fast on the heels of Terry Tremaine's arrest is the conviction of Bill Noble for violating the Criminal Code section regarding the promotion of racial hatred.

Paul Fromm and the Aryan Guard

With the deportation of Ernst Zündel from Canada in 2005, former school teacher Paul Fromm has emerged as the leading figure on the far right in the country. Though fired from his teaching position a decade ago and having his teaching license revoked during the summer of 2007, Fromm is still a busy beaver. He has advocated on behalf of Terry Tremaine, Jessica Beaumont, Glenn Bahr, and others who have been brought before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (contributing to the loss of every case) as well as losing a lawsuit to Richard Warman who sued Fromm for libel; Fromm now owes Warman $30,000.00 plus court costs. Even then he still has time (and money, though who knows from what or from whom) to travel about North America speaking to a cornucopia of the right wing, from the suit and tie bigots of the Council of Conservative Citizens to violent street thugs like the Aryan Guard:

This was the second time in 2007 that Fromm spoke to members of the Aryan Guard in Calgary, a group that Fromm likens to a bunch of go-getter youths who’s civic activism involves helping grannies cross the street and rescuing kittens stuck up in elm trees:

Aryan Guard Sex Scandal

The members of the Aryan Guard have tried to paint themselves as upstanding and moral members of the community. We've already proved that you are far more likely to be victimized by a member of this group than from any minority member you might come across. The numerous crimes and accusations of crimes if far above the national average. Now their leader is embroiled in a sex scandal that broke on Stormfront while his teenage girlfriend Jackie was giving birth to their child.

The story broke a month ago and is outlined on the One Peoples Project website under the story, O(MG), CANADA! The people who run this site managed to get most of the pertinent information and the people involved in the drama. However we would like to add additional information. What we have done is taken the posts from the thread on Stormfront that OPP has up on their site and combined it with two other threads that expand on the story. We've modified the story so that it flows more like a conversation so we've moved some of the postings so that the context of what is said makes more sense, including editting out non-relevant postings.
