The Far-Right, Neo-Nazis, and Racists Running For Municipal Office.... So Let's Have Some Fun With This

By this point in the evening a lot of people who monitor the far-right in Canada have noticed that Faith Goldy has submitted forms and is running for mayor of Toronto:

Ms. Goldy joins the long list of far-right, neo-Nazis, and run of the mill racists who have decided to throw their hat into the political ring....

.... and she is most likely doing it for the exact reasons that others of her ilk have as well:

Already the following have announced their respective, and ultimately futile, runs for public office:

• Perennial candidate Paulie has announced he is running for mayor of Hamilton which genuinely surprised me since I thought he was still living in Mississauga.
• Kevin "Poodle" Johnston is running for mayor of Mississauga.... though even he seems confused as he had withdrawn his candidacy for mayor of Mississauga and registered to run for Ward 9 Mississauga city councilor only to withdraw his candidacy to be a city councilor and register to run for mayor again.
• James Sears, creepy as ever, is a candidate in the Toronto mayoral race as neo-Nazi and convicted murder Chris Brosky.
• Don Andrews may take another crack at mayor so long as he's the only candidate with a last name that starts with the letter "a." If not perhaps his mini-me Bob Smith will run?

Now Faith Goldy joins this august group by running for mayor of Toronto.

These people are running not because they believe they have a chance of winning, though I suppose some might have been able to delude themselves. In general they run so that they get publicity and support, albeit from the fringes, and thus more people who might be able to make donations. And of course many of them are narcissists who just want others to pay attention to them and to take them seriously.

I would prefer not to pay attention any of them, but I also can't help but think that this offers and opportunity for us as well:

ARC has run contests in the past in which our readers have either taken an existing political poster and modified it or have created an entirely new one. All of these have focused on making fun of Paul Fromm's efforts, such as the one from his 2014 campaign for major of Mississauga.

As I was pondering Ms. Goldy's entry into municipal politics, I thought that maybe we might hold the contest once again, though expand the reach somewhat.

What I am proposing is a two part contest in which the winner will be awarded $100 for creating the most informative AND political poster mocking any one of the following candidates:

• Faith Goldy, Toronto mayor
• James Sears, Toronto mayor
• Kevin "Poodle" Johnston, Mississauga mayor
• Paul Fromm, Hamilton mayor

When you have created your poster, send it to the following email address:

From those that have been sent, I and a jury will pick the best example of each far-right candidate. I will then inform those who have made the short list. These short listed posters will be published to the blog. The deadline for this part of the contest will be September 3 to September 14.

Now this is where the contestant and ARC readers will help to determine the winner.

Each poster posted somewhere within the city or ward the candidate running in will be considered as a vote for that poster. A photo of the poster sent to the above address will constitute evidence and will be counted as a vote. The designer of the short listed poster may put up as many as he or she like and any reader can do the same. Part 2 of the contest will go from October 8 to October 19.

Rules that I expect to be followed:

• Provide facts AND funny
• Nothing illegal or promoting anything illegal
• No encouragement of violence
• Nothing sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or racist

In short, feel free to be an asshole, but use some common sense and don't be a dick. Make fun of these clowns because they deserve it and because they hate being laughed at.

Because I'm spit-balling this all as I write it I reserve the right to change dates as needed to to include other information that I didn't think of initially when setting out the rules and conditions. I might also have to speak to a lawyer to make sure that this contest is legal since part of it involves some public postering.

Election Night in Ontario...

Or, perhaps better put, yet another night of futility and frustration.

Now while the rest of the country will be focused on the mayoral race in Toronto and specifically who among the big three with take the top job (our money is on Tory, though we still hold out hope for Chow), we here at the Collective have a much more modest mandate.

We're going to look at a few races where some of the boneheads we cover here are running.

We begin with former Canadian Nazi leader John Beattie who is running for the position of Deputy Reeve in Minden. We aren't very familiar with voting practices in rural Ontario, but we are going to suggest that Beattie will receive less than 40 votes total.

Moving on to Toronto there are a few candidates running. 

Don Andrews is again running for mayor. Based on his previous total and because of the high profile for this election, we are going to guess he takes about 1300 votes.

At the ward level, we are making the following predictions:

Neo-nazi and convicted murderer Christopher Brosky in Ward 28: 150 - 200 

Long-time Andrews supporter and Nationalist Party member Bob Smith in Ward 31: 200 - 250

James Sears aka "Dimitri the Lover" (lost medical licence for sexual misconduct, misogynist, and anti-Semite) in Ward 32: 450 - 500 (mostly because of name recognition)

The big one though from our point of view is Paulie running for money.... er.... I mean mayor in Mississauga. He ran in 2010 and took 917 votes (or 0.65%). We're going to predict that he will score around the same, though given the long time incumbent isn't running this year, there may be more of an interest driving up the number of voters. We'll say he breaks a thousand and finishes at 1050.

Time will tell, though we will have fun watching the results. We generally suck at making these kinds of predictions so take what is written with a healthy grain of salt.

UPDATE 1: Don't underestimate the power of name recognition. James Sears is currently at 538 after 27 of 33 polls.

Chris Brosky is also doing better than our estimate sitting at 248 after 56 of 65 polls.

Others seem to be under performing at this point though and there are no results yet for Minden. 

UPDATE 2: Sears is currently at 686 with 2 of 33 polls remaining. Brosky has managed 316 with 3 of 65 polls outstanding. It looks like Smith might end around 250 as he is currently at 24 with a single poll remaining. Andrews is at 953 and doesn't look like he'll reach 1300 at this point.

Fromm is currently at 511 with 346 of 416 polls reporting. Doesn't look like he's going to hit 1000 and his percentage of the total vote is 0.5%, lower than 2010.

Nothing on Beattie, though I'm guessing that once there is a result, the final outcome will be quick.

UPDATE 3: Sears finishes with 797 votes, more than we had guessed, though given he claimed to be ahead in the polls, scoring 3.08% to the winner's 60.916% doesn't even count as a moral victory. Smith finishes with 256 votes, so we did a decent job of predicting at least one election (we did sort of imply that we sucked at this). Brosky 325 votes (or 1.383% of the total in Ward 28).

Fromm doesn't look like he'll be breaking 1000 and is not, as he had claimed, competitive in the race (shocking, we know). Andrews might also struggle to break 1000 votes. Still waiting on Minden, though that looks to be any time this hour now.

UPDATE 4: Looks like Don Andrews might not even reach the vote tally from 2010. With 1 polling station remaining, he has 1012 votes. And Fromm also looks like he might only barely break 800(correction: he might not break 800).

Finally a result in the Minden race. The incumbent has been re-elected. Nothing about Beattie's vote tally, but we suspect the word minuscule might be appropriate. 

UPDATE 5: Last update. Results in Minden has Beattie taking 214 out of 4564 total votes. We were not certain how many people would vote in the election (we thought perhaps 1000 or 2000) but were off significantly there. In total, Beattie received 4.6% of the vote, not quite the win he had anticipated.

In the Toronto and Mississauga mayoral election, we over-estimated what Andrews and Fromm would receive. Andrews tallied 1012 votes and Fromm 775, both less than what they received in 2010 despite a higher voter turn out.

Another White Nationalist Running For Public Office: Jeff Goodall in Oshawa

We've gotten a lot of positive feedback regarding our SOS Stooges series. However, we have discovered that not all of our readers are fans:

We first wrote about Goodall when BCL noted that Ontario MPP Randy Hillier posted a link to an article on Goodall's blog. BCL further observed that Goodall had made some rather bigoted comments about African-Canadians while we couldn't help notice his shout-out to Kyle McKee's Blood & Honour out of Calgary suggesting they were classier than the Calgary Police.

Oddly, Goodall didn't seem to appreciate our observations.

An examination of Goodall's blog quickly indicates the sort of person he is. Anti-immigrant, anti-Jew, anti-LGBTQ, anti-Black.

And now he wants to be an Oshawa city councilor:

Beattie and Brosky Endorsed by Andrews and Bob Smith

Ugh. We should have known that Bob Smith, another of Don Andrews' Android followers and a perennial candidate himself, would be running in the Toronto municipal election. Smith is running on Ward 31 on an explicitly racist platform which, no doubt, will be wildly successful in a multiethnic and relatively progressive city like Toronto. But being the selfless fella that he is, he also gives a shout-out to his fellow racist candidates:

 

 

Normally, one would think such a characterization as a "racist candidate" would be a label that said candidate would vigorously reject. It's sort of the kiss of death in electoral politics.

But then there's John Beattie who apparently believes that any publicity (including that provided by us) is good publicity:

Come this September, he might not feel the same way.

We leave our readers to ponder this last statement while looking at photos of John Beattie leading members of the Canadian Nazi Party in a march in Allen Gardens, an organization he now claims never existed.

Neo-Nazi and Convicted Murderer Running For Toronto Council

The Toronto civic election, already a three ring circus, needs some clowns. And for that you can always rely on Don Andrews and his Androids:

Seated around Andrews' table with him at the weekly gathering were five people who had jobs. The rest of those present stood around the table; numbering about 10 people, Andrews called them his "Androids": unemployed persons who lived in Andrews' rooming houses. We were told that Andrews took the cheques they received, subtracted the rent and other expenses, and gave them the rest of their money, making a big production

Last time we heard the name Christopher Brosky was when Michelle Erstikaitis was name dropping him in an effort to bolster her neo-Nazi street cred:

I first came into the movement at fourteen years old, dating my first Skinhead, and then I continued dating skinheads for most of my life. The most recent high profile guy that I went out with is Chris Brosky, a Northern Hammerskin.(Yes, the same Chris from Texas who killed a black man)

However, as Erstikaitis alludes to and which we detail in "The History of Violence," Brosky was well known to us before for another far more serious reason:

Former Canadian Nazi Leader John Beattie Running For Muncipal Office

Our readers might question why we would devote any print to John Beattie, a relic of a bygone era still desperately claiming relevance in the White Nationalist movement in Canada through his moribund British Peoples League. That is perhaps a fair question. Beattie has not been relevant since the 1989 rally he held on his property made national news and it could be argued that he has truly not been relevant since the 1960s when he founded and lead the Canadian Nazi Party. Interestingly, he has now denied there ever was a Nazi Party in Canada and that he was manipulated by the Canadian Jewish Conference into creating the group; the CJC had infiltrated the group in order to monitor the threat they presented.

On this blog, we first discussed Beattie in detail when he tried to organize a second event on property near Minden, Ontario where he has lived now for decades. The event again made national news, however unlike the 1989 concert and rally, the 2011 event was cancelled in large part because of the bad press and those who had committed to participating pulling out. Although we do discuss him from time to time in relation to other stories, we don't give the Beattie more print than he is worth and he isn't really worth much to begin with.

Then, a few months ago, he suggested that he was going to put forth his name as a candidate for deputy reeve in Minden. As a result we made a point of keeping more up to date on him than we otherwise would. It took him some time to scrape together the $100.00 registration fee, but eventually took the plunge and is officially a candidate:

Keegstra's Death: Relic of the Past Responds

That James Keegstra did not die on June 12 when the news became public, but in fact died 10 days earlier, is telling. The name Keegstra was still mentioned occasionally by the likes of Fromm when he rambled on about Sec. 319 and about free speech in an abstract way, but the man himself had been largely forgotten, drifting into obscurity soon after his final sentencing hearing in 1996. Even his contemporaries appear to have forgotten about him and it seems that few even attempted to remain in touch with the man they, at the time, lionized and rallied around.

Of his contemporaries, many like John Ross Taylor, Doug Christie, Wolfgang Droege, and Martin Wiche have died. Others like John Beattie, Don Andrews, and Ernst Zundel have yet to acknowledge Keegstra's passing, in part because they have shied away from their more colorful past (Like Beattie, who is running for Deputy Reeve in Minden, Ontario) or couldn't be bothered to care.

Such is the nature of the White Nationalist movement.

But at least one of those infamous old relics from the past has decided to make a rare appearance. Terry Long, like Keegstra, disappeared not long after of the Canadian branch of the Aryan Nations' he lead collapsed. Last we heard he was living in Ontario, but he does periodically pop up from time to time. He ran for office under the Doug Christie-led Western Canadian Concept Party. We know that it was Long whom Todd Conroy (former BC Volksfront leader) had been visiting when he got into a near fatal motorcycle accident. And we know that he still keeps up on the state of the movement, as we copies of emails sent by Long to some of the more contemporary members of the movement dating to the 2000s. So while he might not be active anymore, he certainly hasn't changed his views. And when Keegstra died Long (eventually) decided to break his silence as well.

Actually, Western historians generally agreed that the number of Jews who died in Auschwitz numbered between 800,000 and 1.35 million since at least 1961 and the Soviet numbers had been long discarded, but why should we expect revisionists like Long to be accurate?

Paul Fromm also got around to posting a eulogy of sorts, but we aren't sure that yet another one of Paulie's  self-promoting missives is really all that necessary here.

While Keegstra's obscurity is telling, it is also fitting. And so is the fact that his remaining contemporaries will eventually follow him, some likely sooner than others. Ernst Zundel is 75, Long has to be at least in his 70s,  and Don Andrews is around 72. John Beattie, someone who sounds to be in the early stages of dementia, is in his early 70s (UPDATE: Beattie is 72) and Paul Fromm in his mid 60s. Another 10, 15 years....

There will come a point when these men too will shuffle off their mortal coil and their names forgotten. We find this fact to be a comforting one.

Short Update on ARC's History Project

As we enter the final couple of days before 2014, we thought we would provide an update on the ARC history project. Those who follow the blog will remember that we sent out a request a year or so ago asking that anyone who has news letters, racist propaganda, photographs, newspaper clippings, or any other documents that might be able to tell the story of the racist movement in Canada to send us a scanned copy. Our focus had been primarily on the Heritage Front and the period between 1989 and 1999, however we decided to expand our focus, so we have in our possession not only electronic and hard copies (thanks to a good friend in Victoria) of primary documents originating with the Heritage Front, but also documents from the Nationalist Party of Canada and the Western Guard Party.

Our readers might have noticed that we have again added to our, "History of Violence" article and time line. Originally the time line ran from 1989 to 2011, but as contemporary events continued to unfold we extended forward to the present date. Likewise, as we conducted more research, we pushed back the starting point, first to 1981 and now to 1970. Many of the new additions feature the Western Guard, but the earliest focus on the Edmund Burke Society.

In a lot of ways, the Edmund Burke Society was the grandfather of the modern racist movement in Canada. The organization was established by three men, Leigh Smith, future Nationalist Party of Canada leader (and perpetual Toronto mayoral candidate) Don Andrews, and this fella:

The philosophy of the Edmund Burke Society, founded in 1967 at the University of Toronto, would be described today as paleo-conservative. Not overtly racist when it began, it became increasingly so as the membership became more active and more raucous. Eventually the organization changed its name from the Edmund Burke Society to the Western Guard (later the Western Guard Party) in 1972 which was indeed overtly and violently racist.

Paulie has denied he was a member of the Western Guard. But that isn't quite true as he was a member for at least the first few months after the name change and the "change" in tactics and ideology (though to be fair he did split with the organization before the end of 1972). Paulie suggested he didn't agree with the direction of the Western Guard and instead went on to form his own organizations.

That being said, we actually have some evidence that Paulie's views might not have differed so much from the Western Guard.

Don Andrews: Nothing If Not Persistent

Summertime and the livin' is easy!

We have to admit that the blog has not be a primary focus for our members. Life has gotten in the way in the best possible way and we've been just having way too much fun. As such we really haven't been interested in allowing the miserable excuses for humanity that we cover here to harsh our mellow.

Then, this evening, one of our members doing a pretty routine check of bonehead websites noticed this on the Nationalist Party of Canada's website:

The mayor of Regina has cancelled a proclamation to declare a week in October "European Heritage Week" after he says he was fooled by a white supremacy group. 

The group called Nationalist Party of Canada put in a request in July.

Blast from The Past: Nationalist Party of Canada and the Western Guard

UPDATE 3 (replacing UPDATE 1): Never mind. :)

A little while ago we spoke of our interest in documenting the rise and fall of the Heritage Front (and yes, Grant Bristow and CSIS play a significant role in that history, "Narrow Back"). We have received some information and photos, but we thought we would take this opportunity to remind our readers that we would still like your help.

Some of the information we have received actually goes WAY back. Those who know the history of the Heritage Front are aware that it was created by disaffected members of Don Andrews' Nationalist Party of Canada. Nationalist Party members Droege, Bristow, and Lincoln founded the Heritage Front soon after they returned from Libya after attending the the twentieth anniversary celebration of the invitation of the Gaddafi regime, as they felt that the Nationalist Party was no longer an effective means of pursuing their goals. In that sense, the Nationalist Party (according to their own family tree) might be thought of as the Heritage Front's daddy:

Hmmm, we guess then that the Western Guard would be the grand daddy and Paul Fromm's Edmund Burke Society would be the great grand daddy.

Heritage Front Project

As we're in a bit of a lull right now (and that is decidedly a very good thing) we thought we would start some work on a project that we had considered long ago but had put on the back burner. However we will need the help of our readers.

In 1989, perhaps the most "successful" hate group in Canadian history, the Heritage Front, was formed. It's heyday was between 1989 and early 1994, though it did continue in a much weakened state until 2005 when it finally ceased to exist.

We would like to document, as much as we can, the history of this group.

We are looking for examples of Heritage Front propaganda, newspaper clippings, and photos of the group (individual members, meetings/rallies held, encounters with antifa, informal gatherings, etc) between 1989 and 2005, with a special focus on the years between 1989 and 1999 (though the period between 2001 and 2005 is also of particular interest).

Since the Heritage Front was founded almost a generation ago now, we'd sort of like to collect this information before much more of it is lost to time.We know that there are antifa and former HF members (who have rejected racism since they left the hate group) who have items that have not yet found their way into the public realm as yet and, from an historical point of view, these items would be of great interest to not only ourselves, but academia.

Martin Weiche of the Canadian Nazi Party Dead

Well, another of the old guard of the Canadian racist movement has died. Martin K. Weiche, member of the John Beattie led Canadian Nazi Party (Weiche would later go on to lead what must have been the tiny Canadian National Socialist Part) died on September 2.

Part II: And How Does the Extreme Right React to Jack Layton's Passing? Exactly How You Would Expect

 
In our last article, we discussed briefly the reaction of those one might consider to be "mainstream" conservatives to the news of Jack Layton's death. Those reactions seem to range from sincere admiration for a respected adversary to general douchebaggery. However we didn't discuss the reaction of those we cover on this blog.

Yep, the boneheads have something to say too.

There is a belief that one can measure the worth of a person by the respect that his or her ideological opponents has for that person. In all likelihood, this was intended to apply to ideological opponents who are mainstream and here Jack fares very well. However, we at ARC believe that one can measure the worth of a person by how hated that person is by the most vile, loathsome elements of our society.

Situation in Libya: Gaddafi Victim of Jewish Propaganda Campaign and Evil Zionist (Not Really)

Well, at least according to disgraced former member of the Canadian diplomatic corp., Ian V. Macdonald by way of Paul Fromm:

Anyone with any knowledge of the Canadian racist movement shouldn't be surprised by Macdonald's defence of the Gaddafi regime which is currently trying to hang on to power, killing thousands Libyan citizens in the process. In 1987, Macdonald organized a Canadian delegation to Tripoli to commemorate the American bombing of Libya the previous year. Warren Kinsella also noted a link between Macdonald and the Gaddafi regime:

Paul Fromm Not a Fan of... Toronto Mayor Rob Ford???

This past October we here in the Collective watched with baited breath as Paulie, Tommy and Donnie were all trounced in their respective mayoral campaigns, which was completely expected (we were surprised that voter turn out in Mississauga, London and Toronto appeared higher than in the past). Truth be told we really were only paying attention to Fromm and Winnicki though, as we had experienced Don Andrews' dog and pony show during multiple civic elections in Toronto and, frankly, we were a bit bored by him. Besides, we knew that the Toronto race was going to be won by conservative Rob Ford and as most of us here are lefties politically, that sort of bummed us out a little bit.

Things took an interesting turn today however when Paulie posted a screed on both Stormfront and his own Facebook profile directed at the Canadian Jewish Congress, Rob Ford and the Ford for Mayor campaign. The focus of the screed centers around someone Paulie claims once worked on the Ford campaign (a Mr. James Alcock) but, because of his connection to Fromm and a planned speech to Paulie's Alternative Forum, was dropped as a campaign worker due to CJC pressure.

We don't know a great deal about Mr. Alcock at this point. From what we've been able to gather, he is associated to some degree with the conservative Toronto Party and is someone especially interested in mass transit and transportation. Mr. Alcock himself posted the following in the "Team Rob Ford" Facebook group:

Ontario Civic Election: How Are Paulie, Winnicki and Andrews Doing

We've been following the results as they've come in. Not all of the polls have closed (and these results are not final in any case) but so far things are going to form.

In Toronto where Rob Ford has been declared the victor, Don Andrews has received 988 votes with 1831 of 1870 Polls Reporting. This represents 0.129% of the total vote.

Over in Mississauga, Paulie has received 889 votes with 226 of 231 polls reporting, representing 0.66% of the total vote.

Things seem to be a little slower in London, but with 425 of 900 polls reporting. Winnicki has received 38 total votes, or 0.2% of the total. If this continues, Winnicki should get between 75 and 85 votes by the end of the night.

The numbers aren't surprising in the least. We'll discuss the implications later.

UPDATE 1: The numbers are all in, at least in Mississauga.

The final unofficial tally for Paulie is 917 votes, or 0.65% of the total vote.

In Toronto, it looks like when all is said and done, Don Andrews will finish with a little over 1000 votes, perhaps reaching 1100, though that looks to be a long shot since he's currently at 1023 (0.127% of the vote with five polling stations left to report).

In London, Winnicki has 101 votes (0.2%) with 607 of 900 polling stations reporting. If he maintains these numbers, Winnicki will be looking at about 150 votes by the end of the night.

Civic elections are pretty notorious for their low voter turnout, so we expected the total number of voters would be low. While the voter turnout has still been abysmal, they are a bit higher than we had anticipated. We had certainly expected that Andrews, Fromm and Winnicki would finish with under 1% of the total vote each, which has turned out to be accurate. We actually expected Paulie's percentage of the vote to be a bit higher in the o.75% to 0.85% range, and for a while it looked like that would happen when Paulie was at 0.78% of the total vote count.

UPDATE 2: Winnicki finishes with 234 votes (0.2%) with all 900 polling stations reporting. It also looks like London had a higher than expected turnout as well, as did a number of other cities.

In Mississauga, the increase in voters was really quite marked. Last election in 2006 saw 107,531 people vote in the mayoral race. This year the number was 143,501. Even taking into account the fact the city has grown during the intervening years, this number is a big jump when compared to previous elections:

2010: 143,501

2006: 107,531 (24.72%)

2003: 81,533 (19.99%)

2000: 97,028 (25.60%)

1997: 69,617 (20.90%)

We don't know the current population of the city, but we would imagine that the 2010 is close to 30%.

Still, it really is disappointing to see how few people seem to give a damn about who is running their respective cities.

"I'm High on Hate": The Mayoral Campaigns of Paulie and Winnicki Winding Down

We haven't written about the sec. 13 case for a while, but the "National Post" ran an article today which stated that the government has withdrawn from the case. Later in the article, mention is made of Paulie and his mayoral campaign in Mississauga:

Paul Fromm, an anti-immigration campaigner who is running for mayor of Mississauga, Ont., indicated his Canadian Association for Free Expression will comment on "the issue of fundamental and unfettered freedom of expression afforded to all individuals in Canada, and in particular, its focus will be narrowed to the right of an individual to free discourse on the Internet."

The day after this week's hearing, Mr. Fromm gave a public lecture to two dozen people about his mayoral campaign, filled with racist and homophobic slurs. He said he has found the local train stations to be "like flippin' Calcutta" and Mississauga itself has been "paved over with ticky tacky houses that are mostly filled with East Indians."

His campaign slogan, borrowed with no apparent irony from the Barbra Streisand-Robert Redford movie, is "The Way We Were," meaning white, he said. He said his primary goal is to move public opinion against immigration.

"I wake up in the morning and I feel great. I'm high on hate," he said, in a conference room at a hotel near Toronto's airport, with white supremacist and Holocaust denial literature on display.

We're not surprised Paulie would be caught with his pants down (so to speak; please try not to picture him with his pants actually down). Paulie has continued to speak at a variety of racist functions, including a recent speech to the Blood & Honour crew in the United States as well as the Council of Conservative Citizens:


All this isn't sitting well with people who oppose sec. 13, but are growing increasingly concerned that Paulie's shameless self-promotion is hurting their efforts:


Over in London, Ontario, Tomasz Winnicki continues his efforts, though in some ways he appears slightly more realistic about his chances of winning based on a note to his potential supporters on his website:

Do not worry about not winning or the temporary disappointment of voting for a candidate you know will not win. What is important are the tasks and work we undertake after the election in order to stop the civilization wreckers, the so-called 'liberals' and 'conservatives' who were wrecking our economy and social structure for decades.

Right. Because a balding, single man living with his parents is just the person who will turn the whole system around.

Recently, Winnicki was pictured standing proudly in front of one of his campaign signs:


Our first thought, somewhat snarky, is whether Winnicki has ever actually talked to a girl before. Our second thought was that we find it amusing that a man with such a low opinion of women would feature one on his campaign sign. Good enough to be eye candy, not good enough as a conversationalist, we guess.

Well, sadly, someone may have taken it upon him or herself to remove the signs or knock them over:

Okay, so it looks like "Caylen" has Winnicki pretty much pegged.

We COULD do what the boneheads do whenever White Supremacist and Nazi graffiti finds its way onto synagogues, community centers, and graveyards; claim that it was actually done by themselves to garner greater publicity and sympathy. But we'll give Winnicki the benefit of the doubt here.

We in ARC don't endorse the damaging and theft of campaign signs. In fact, especially in Winnicki's case, we really, really want those signs all over the place.

What better reminder of the kind of person Winnicki is and why people should not take him seriously than seeing this on your way to work in the morning:


We mean, who could really take Winnicki seriously after seeing this?

On Monday, the elections in Missisuagua, London and Toronto (we haven't forgotten about you, Don Andrews) will take place. We're currently taking bets within ARC on how many votes each candidate receives:

Fromm: The high number is currently at around 650 votes, while the low is 120.
Winnicki: We're looking at between 35 and 110 votes.
Andrews: Since Toronto is a wee bit larger than Mississauga and London, the high number in our pool is 3,500. The low is 330. Most of us think the high number will be way, way off.

It'll be interesting to see the results.

Tom Wants to Be Mayor

No, we're not talking about some new Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim spin-off on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim though we know such a show would be awesome!

In fact we're talking about a man deciding to run for mayor and who may very well be even more unelectable than Don Andrews is in Toronto when he runs for mayor:

An avowed white supremacist who has called himself London's "biggest hater" is running for mayor.

Tomasz Winnicki joined the race Tuesday for the city's top political job, a move that likely holds little political significance for London but will no doubt shock many in the Forest City.

Winnicki's hate speech has been the frequent focus of Free Press reports in the past, and he's been at the forefront of the city's white supremacy movement.

He's appeared at rallies and loaded websites with profanity-laced diatribes about blacks, Jews, other non-whites and non-Christians.

Reached Tuesday night, Winnicki agreed he's a controversial figure.

"Controversial? Absolutely," he said. "(But) anything is controversial now.

Just about anything -- they say this guy's controversial, that guy's controversial.

"You can say that about anybody."

Winnicki, whose Wikipedia profile states he's 35, made dubious history in 2006 when he became the first white supremacist in Canada jailed for breaking a court order to stop posting hate messages online.

The controversy made Winnicki something of a hero to white supremacists across North America.

Winnicki served some time in jail before appealing the sentence.

Canada's human rights tribunal also ordered Winnicki to pay $11.500 in fines and compensation.

There are now 13 candidates for mayor, but observers have noted only two could be considered legitimate contenders: incumbent Anne Marie DeCicco-Best and ex-MP Joe Fontana.

Citizens have until this Friday to file nomination papers to run for mayor or in a ward.

Sure, there are lots of people who are deemed controversial, but what Winnicki doesn't want to seem to accept is that there's sort of a sliding scale of controversy. For example, in a country that cherishes our particular brand of health care (warts and all), a politician coming out in favor of a, "for profit" system would be deemed controversial in Canada and might have difficulty attracting votes in some parts of the country (though that person might be supported in other parts of the nation). While we wouldn't support such a policy, to make such a policy statement isn't light years away from mainstream political discourse. However, if you believe in deporting non-White Canadians for no other reason than their ethnicity, believe, support and perpetuate anti-Semitic hatred, publicly claimed that men are inherently more intelligent than women, well... you're sort of what we would call a fringe candidate here.
But perhaps we're being too hard on Winnicki. Maybe he has some legitimate ideas worthy of consideration:

Paulie Running For Mayor of Mississauga. Oh, Such Fun!!!

So now Paulie is running for mayor, at least according to a recent post on Stormfront. We enjoy reading Paulie's press releases that he writes for himself, all of which are are filled with praise of his grand accomplishments. Here below is his press release from Stormfront, with a few comments added for context:

Our friends BigCityLib and Dr. Dawg posted articles excoriating CTV for giving Paulie a forum yesterday during his BC protest to attack the Tamil migrants and for failing to mention his rather sordid past (and present) in the White Supremacist movement. Nary a word of Paulie's links to the Heritage Front of the past, nor the Aryan Guard now, was mentioned. Paulie is instead introduced as an immigration reform activist.

Criticism of the media white-wash of Paulie's views and associations came from another, somewhat unexpected, source:

Paul Fromm's efforts to rouse public opinion against the Tamil migrant ship began last month from his home in Ontario, with impassioned messages posted to Stormfront.org, the Florida-based neo-Nazi website of which he is a "sustaining member" and radio host. 

It continued last week in Calgary, when he led a group of Aryan Guard skinheads to Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney's constituency office, and so terrified the receptionist that she locked the door and would not accept Mr. Fromm's delivery of a letter until police arrived. 

But for Canada's best known racist agitator, things did not really get going until he reached the Pacific shore at Esquimalt, B.C., on Saturday, where the boat was docked.
There, accompanied by Doug Christie -- famous as the go-to civil liberties lawyer for every top Canadian racist of the last 30 years -- Mr. Fromm got himself front and centre on the national weekend news, flanked by his small group of two dozen protesters. 

Mr. Fromm, whose license to teach high school in Ontario was revoked in 2007 for his activism against non-white immigration and ties to groups like the defunct neo-Nazi Heritage Front, appeared in reports by three major news outlets, identified only as the leader of a group called "Canada First," or "Canada First Immigration Reform Committee." 

“If we do need immigrants, the public opinion polls show that the majority of Canadians don’t want the ethnic balance upset,” Mr. Fromm said, according to the Toronto Star story. 

The media exposure for his message recalls an episode in 2008, when Fox News was criticized by a U.S. anti-hate group, the Southern Poverty Law Center, for allowing Mr. Fromm to appear as a "free speech activist." 

Fox News is one thing, but to score prominent coverage offering comment on a national refugee crisis to the Toronto Star, Canadian Press, and CTV indicates that Mr. Fromm's nose for media is especially refined. 

No outlet responded to requests for comment. 

Mr. Fromm said he was "pleasantly surprised at the amount of press interest." 

"I did find it unusual," he said. "I took it to mean that some of the journalists have actually gone to journalism school." 

The Victoria Times-Colonist reported on the protest and identified Mr. Fromm as a "white supremacist." 

The others are not the first media outlets to be fooled in this way. On the surface, "immigration reform" has the same kind of naive appeal as "historical revisionism," a euphemism for Holocaust denial, and a field in which Mr. Fromm is highly regarded as a free speech champion. 

Dressed as he was in a suit and tie on a sunny summer's day, Mr. Fromm made an obviously professional spokesman for the media pack. His manner is typical of the public pose struck by other elder statesmen of Canadian racism, such as Don Andrews, a fellow traveller back to university days in Toronto, whose conviction for the wilful promotion of hatred against blacks and Jews was upheld in 1990 at the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Andrews has a similar attention-grabbing prank of getting municipal governments across Canada to declare "European Heritage Week," without realizing that the sponsoring organization, his Nationalist Party of Canada, is explicitly white supremacist. 

It is a winning strategy, to put a genteel face on racism for the unsuspecting public, as Jared Taylor of American Renaissance discovered in Halifax in 2007, when he challenged an unwitting Black studies professor to debate him on multiculturalism, then basked in media coverage when the professor realized he was an avowed racist, and cancelled. 

In the case of the Tamil migrants, all Mr. Fromm had to do to seize the spotlight as a voice of dissent was to gather a few people on a roadside outside of Victoria, B.C., and just start talking. 

"The only way to really do something about people smuggling is to make sure that if you come in through the back door illegitimately like this, you don't get in," he said in the CTV report. For balance, his remarks were followed by the more welcoming sentiments of a group of native women from a nearby reserve. 

For the modern "immigration reform" activist, that is how to play the publicity game -- think like the media, get to the scene, and get on camera. And if success if measured by exposure, it is also how to win. 

"I'll talk to anybody," Mr. Fromm said.

We have to applaud Mr. Brean for being able to see through the veneer of respectability that Paulie has created for himself over the years and label Paulie as the bigot he is.

One part of the article that struck us and which we want to explore a little more is that Paulie puts a "genteel face on racism." Exactly how genteel has Paulie actually been since the late 60s when he became active in the White Supremacist movement?

Those who are aware of Paulie's past know that he was one of the founders of a group called the Edmund Burke Society. The Edmund Burke Society has always been presented by Paulie as a group of young college kids who were opposed to communism and the shift to the left in the country as a whole during the Trudeau era. To listen to Paulie, it was a group dedicated to free speech and engaging their opposition in a vigorous intellectual debate over the direction of the country and would attempt to sway Canadians through the strength of their ideas.
