NFL
The NFL today is almost like a different game compared to the way it was played back in the day. The players were often bloody and muddy, the quarterbacks weren’t treated like fragile primadonnas, and the logos and lore were legendary. If you are nostalgic for the Gridiron greatness of the past, this sub is for you.
I've recently been heavily fascinated by topic.
Social media has managed to shift the way sports is consumed. You can get BTS posts of your favorite athletes, talk with fans of the same team from all over the world, dunk on rival teams from the comfort of your own home, have a major say in sports-related issues, and possess thousands of articles and news sources at your fingertips.
However, that was not always the case, of course. Until the mid-to-late 2000s, there was no way to do all that simultaneously. You had two options if you wanted to propose a mock draft for your favorite team, especially during the 80s and early 90s. One: you could hit up the local newspaper, which only had a small, 2-3 paragraph section dedicated to sports and, for out-of-state fans, usually only covered the local team. Then, pray that it makes its way through the editorial department. Two: You could call in to your local sports radio station, which was probably a harder process compared to today, and hope that your proposal would receive airtime.
As for the trash-talk, a Niners fan in the 80s (just an example) couldn't be able to take on hundreds of Cowboys fans from home like you can today. They had to write a letter, take it to the post office, and have it delivered. That would be considered shameless in the modern world. You could also, of course, go to a game and confront them in person, or invite them to your home for a beer.
I'm writing this post in an attempt to get people explain more about how NFL fandom operated in the 80s and 90s. This is a very interesting topic that I've pondered about for a long time.

Going downtown during excitement toward end of Lions 2023, noticed, unhoused population disappeared. Most notably, empty church steps in Grand Circus Park, on same block as former Cheli’s Chili where ppl were lined-up to get in. Presuming same in April 2024 for NFL Draft.
Questions: What did “they” do with the unhoused in/around Ford Field during playoff games? What will they do or where will they send them during NFL draft?
Rather than just hiding them for appearances, can same be done to address needs of the unhoused year-round?

Obviously was a disaster for us and lost out on a defensive coordinator position. At least he sparked to org to invest in an experienced coaching staff but I do wonder how the rest of his coaching career will pan out.
He's not getting a HC job any time soon but I was surprised he didn't get a coordinator position and is still on the market. Our defense was usually awful but he did come up with some really good game plans occasionally. The 49ers and Dolphins game from a couple years ago come to mind. Looked more like the "defensive guru" we were promised.
My take on Staley is he climbed the ladder too quickly. He coached the number 1 defense his sole season as a DC. Part of that success was because he had elite players like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey but I do give him a good amount of credit for their success. He's a good DC.
But he couldn't balance the responsibility of being a HC while still calling plays. His staff was inexperienced which spread himself too thin. Maybe I'm just gullible because he's a convincing speaker but I think he'll surely get another DC gig and probably another shot at HC eventually.
Staley era was rough. I was so sick of him by the end but I do hope he can succeed elsewhere. Just wondering how y'all feel about him in retrospect and if you think he'll get another shot as a serious coach in the NFL? Or was Rex Ryan right and he'll go back to division III lmao.
