How far would you go to fix the mistakes you've made and regain the trust you lost?

For Jade Jessup, the answer is 2,448 miles. Once one of Chicago's significant financial advisors, Jade lost her credibility when her fiancé (and coworker) stole millions of dollars from their clients in a Ponzi scheme. Now she's agreed to help one of them--an aging 1960s Hollywood starlet named Berenice "Benny" Alderidge--seek financial restoration.

Jade sets off along Route 66 with Benny and her handsome adult foster son, Bridger, who is filming a documentary retracing the 1956 trip that started the love story between Benny and her recently deceased husband, Paul. Listening to Benny recount her story draws Jade into memories of her own darker association with Route 66, when she was kidnapped as a child by a man the media labeled a monster--but she remembers only as daddy.

Together, all three of these pilgrims will learn about family, forgiveness, and what it means to live free of the past. But not before Jade faces a second staggering betrayal that changes everything.

Series: Wings of Valenia (1)

The enthralling, suspenseful, and magical first book in the Wings of Valenia fantasy trilogy, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Holly Black, and Robin McKinley.

I was Father's heir now, and one day I'd be queen. But when I looked at Mother, Adana, and Orla and imagined flying, somehow the thought of being queen didn't comfort me.

As next in line to the throne, Kiar will be responsible for protecting the human kingdom of Valenia. The middle of three daughters of King Tir and Queen Tianas, a woman of the swanfolk, Kiar is devastated when her sisters are able to take swan form and she is not.

When three young swanfolk arrive to be fostered in the royal family, her friendship with spirited Willow and growing feelings for tall, thoughtful Tuan make her feel even more different. Her inability to change shape is not the only problem Kiar faces; the king of neighboring Noermark is determined to bring Valenia under his rule, either by force or by guile. He sends his son to ask for her hand in marriage.

Facing down a human enemy is one thing, but when dark magic threatens the kingdom and tragedy pulls the family apart, it's up to Kiar and her swanfolk friends to defeat the supernatural forces before Valenia falls.

"Elizabeth Creith is an exciting new voice in fantasy fiction, creating with The Swan Harp, an entire new world full of beautiful, fragile and powerful creatures, as yet unseen anywhere. You'll stay for the magic, but you'll live for the story." - Susie Moloney, author of The Dwelling, A Dry Spell, and The Thirteen

"Family, betrayal, tragedy-there is so much to love about this exciting coming of age fantasy! The Swan Harp has the resonance of the old tales, with a heart we expect from the best stories of today." - Anita Daher, actor and author of You Don't Have to Die in the End

A majestic novel of Florence Nightingale, whose courage, self-confidence, and resilience transformed nursing and the role of women in medicine

Sweeping yet intimate, Flight of the Wild Swan tells the story of Florence Nightingale, a brilliant, trailblazing woman whose humanity has been obscured beneath the iconic weight of legend. From adolescence, Nightingale was determined to fulfill her life’s calling to serve the sick and suffering. Overcoming Victorian hierarchies, familial expectations, patriarchal resistance, and her own illness, she used her hard-won acclaim as a battlefield nurse to bring the profession out of its shadowy, disreputable status and elevate nursing to a skilled practice and compassionate art. In lush, lyrical detail, Melissa Pritchard reveals Nightingale as a rebel who wouldn’t relent—one whose extraordinary life offers a grand lesson in inspired will.

“Marvelous and moving.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“A fresh imagining of an icon... [Florence Nightingale], in Pritchard’s portrayal, is an indomitable force.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Ann Sei Lin's enchanting and action-packed debut, first in a series, will sweep readers away to an aerial world of magic, danger and political intrigue. Perfect for fans of Elizabeth Lim, Kalynn Bayron and the films of Studio Ghibli.

Kurara has never known any other life than being a servant onboard the Midori, a flying ship serving the military elite of the Mikoshiman Empire, a vast realm of floating cities. Kurara also has a secret — she can make folded paper figures come to life with a flick of her finger. But when the Midori is attacked and Kurara's secret turns out to be a power treasured across the empire, a gut-wrenching escape leads her to the gruff Himura, who takes her under his wing. Under Himura's tutelage, and with the grudging support and friendship of his crew, Kurara learns to hunt shikigami — wild paper spirits sought after by the Princess of Mikoshima.

But what does the princess really want with the shikigami? Are they merely enchanted figures without will or thought, or are they beings with souls and minds of their own? As fractures begin to appear both across the empire and within Kurara's understanding of herself, Kurara will have to decide who she can trust. Her fate, and the fate of her friends — and even the world — may rest on her choice. And time is running out.

The second in a fractured fairy tale series by the author of Franklin the Turtle! Join Professor Goose in this STEM-filled picture book as she fact-checks classic fairy tales and shares the science behind these flawed stories.

Mother Goose's fairy tales are NOT based in science, and her great niece Professor Goose thinks it's time to share the truth. Join Professor Goose as she — literally — travels through the pages of The Three Little Pigs, fact-checking, exposing the flaws and explaining the science. Did you know that pigs run in a zigzag pattern? And that there's no way a wolf's breath would be strong enough to blow down anything, even if he has his whole pack with him? And that hay bales are strong enough to resist most up, down and sideways forces? Sounds like the perfect material for building a house!... Or, not. But not to worry — Professor Goose is armed with helpful hints on how to make a structure strong enough to withstand hurricane forces!

Jammed with jokes and hilarious illustrations, this book entertains while it introduces basic scientific laws and rules to young readers. At the back of the book, readers will find Professor Goose's new, carefully researched fairy tale ending as well as her favorite facts about coding!

"Intensely readable and beautifully observed... full of wisdom, generosity, humor, and sharp insights."—Elif Batuman, author of Either/Or and The Idiot

Three Israeli women, their lives altered by immigration to the United States, seek to overcome crises. Ilana is a veteran Hebrew instructor at a Midwestern college who has built her life around her career. When a young Hebrew literature professor joins the faculty, she finds his post-Zionist politics pose a threat to her life's work. Miriam, whose son left Israel to make his fortune in Silicon Valley, pays an unwanted visit to meet her new grandson and discovers cracks in the family's perfect façade. Efrat, another Israeli in California, is determined to help her daughter navigate the challenges of middle school, and crosses forbidden lines when she follows her into the minefield of social media.

In these three stirring novellas—comedies of manners with an ambitious blend of irony and sensitivity—celebrated Israeli author Maya Arad probes the demise of idealism and the generation gap that her heroines must confront.

What makes the place we live feel like home? This is a warm-hearted and lush picture book about family, the immigrant experience and how a simple garden can foster a connection to the larger natural world.

Mama was born in a country far away from here. I love her stories about warm rain in winter and green mountains. And now Mama's taking me there!

When a young girl and her mother go to visit her family, the girl notices a change. At home, her mother mostly stays inside. Here, her mother likes to explore and go hiking. The girl has never seen her so happy! Her mother tells her about the trees, bushes, flowers and birds. Did you know that tree roots make mountains strong? And that ai hao (mugwort) is used to make delicious, sweet dumplings? But her mother's smile goes away when they return home. It's cold and she doesn't want to go outside. She goes back to wearing her big quilted jackets and watering her houseplants.

How can the girl show her mother that nature here can be wondrous too?

Kids of all ages will race through this book, desperate to find out what will happen to the twins when catastrophe strikes in a near future world, changed forever by climate crisis. Opposite Identicals is an upper middle grade novel set in the very near future - a time when climate change has irreversibly altered our planet and lifestyles. Nova and Joule are fourteen-year old twins whose scientist parents have recently uprooted the family from their urban home and moved to the country on a year-long research assignment, studying the effects of GMO 'SuperCrop' farming on the environment in the final regulatory phase before global expansion.

Surrounded by nature and quiet, open spaces, shy, bookish Nova is in heaven. But Joule - whose life's ambition is to be famous and reach a million Hollagram followers - is desperate to escape. One day, Joule gets her wish, although not in a way anyone ever expected. In an instant, she's gone - swallowed up by a mysterious sinkhole under her bedroom floor. Suddenly twinless, Nova is forced to step in and lead the search for her missing sister. But can she face her fears and figure out what caused the sinkhole in time to save Joule?

Told from alternating points of view, it's a fantastical adventure about overcoming obstacles, self-discovery, and environmental awareness.

"With suspense, adventure, and plenty of creepy crawlies, Opposite Identicals will have fans of Stranger Things looking at the ground below and wondering, 'what if?' Nail biting suspense, sisterly love, and subterranean adventures make for an exciting middle grade sci fi read!" - Colleen Nelson, author of The Undercover Book List

"Opposite Identicals is a fast paced, heart pumping thrill ride into the near ecological future or . . . nightmare. Two twins, day and night, totally different until it counts. Buckle in!" - Teresa Toten, author of Eights Days and The Unlikely Hero of Room 13b

"Articulate, riveting, deftly crafted, and thought-provoking, Children of Tomorrow is especially and unreservedly recommended for both community and college/university library fiction collections." —Midwest Book Review

“Five Stars. "Children of Tomorrow is an essential read." —ArtsHub

Children of Tomorrow is a history of family and friendship that spans generations and geographies over a century of escalating climate change.

In 2016, Arne Bakker is working on a reforestation project in Tasmania shortly before bushfires sweep across the ancient wilderness. Elsewhere, London-born freedriver Evie Weatherall witnesses extreme climate events in her travels. Arne's close friend and Evie's Canadian cousin Wally, influencer, journalist, and musician, also sees a dangerous future forming. Meanwhile, Arne's brother Freddie, "a shredded poster boy for global environmental activism," is mobilizing his followers. When their paths collide, the group is set on course to witness and struggle together against the coming century.

Decades later, a new generation is living with the havoc wreaked by their parents and grandparents and they too must find ways to find hope for the future in an increasingly difficult present.

"Luminous, thoughtful, unflinching - there's a breathless relentlessness to the increasing carbon dioxide numbers that kept me flipping pages as if it were a thriller. But even as it portrays the disasters and collapses, it also portrays what's best about humanity: our capacity to hope, love, change, and forgive. A stunning and necessary addition to the existing oeuvre of climate change fiction." —Premee Mohamed, The Annual Migration of Clouds

Award-winning social psychologist Mary Murphy offers a groundbreaking reconsideration of individual and team success—showing how to create and sustain a growth mindset in any organization's culture.

Carol Dweck's multi-million-copy bestseller Mindset transformed our view of individual potential, coining the terms "fixed" and "growth" mindset: in a "fixed" mindset, talent and intelligence are viewed as predetermined traits, while in a "growth" mindset, talent and intelligence can be nurtured.

In Cultures of Growth, Dweck's protégé, Mary Murphy, a social psychologist at both Stanford and Indiana University, shows that mindset transcends individuals. A growth mindset culture can transform any group, team, or classroom to reach breakthroughs while also helping each person achieve their potential.

Murphy's original decade-long research reveals that organizations and teams more geared toward growth inspire deeper learning, spark collaboration, spur innovation, and build trust necessary for risk-taking and inclusion. They are also less likely to cheat, cut corners, or steal each other's ideas. And they're more likely to achieve top results. In these cultures, great ideas come from people from all backgrounds and at all levels--not just those anointed as brilliant or talented.

Discover how a culture of growth helped make outdoor retailer Patagonia a leader in its field; how Satya Nadella transformed Microsoft; how winemakers Robin McBride and Andréa McBride John are leading with a mindset to disrupt and diversify the entire wine industry; and how a New York school superintendent reversed massive inequities for children of color by reshaping the district's mindset culture. Drawing on compelling examples from her work with Fortune 500 companies, startups, and schools, Murphy demonstrates that an organization's mindset culture is the key to success for individuals, teams, and the entire organization, teaching you how to create and sustain a culture of growth no matter your role.

Create environments where people want to be, where everyone can thrive and achieve their potential, both individually and together. In a world where success seems reserved for a chosen few, Cultures of Growth unveils a radically different approach to creating organizations that inspire learning, growth, and success at all levels.

In three novellas and two short stories, Alt Sagas unfolds the quandaries of our lives.

Tragically displaced loyalty, a strange pocket of a forever war, aging, faith, social revolution, the perils of revenge magic and of physical nonconformity, and more are explored in settings wholly distant, yet eerily familiar.

Says Susann Cokal, author of ALA prize-winning The Kingdom of Little Wounds: "Jean Huets' tour-de-force takes of our cultural touchstones help to explain how we crashed our way into a frightening future; they also promise that we are more than the sum of our technology and our losses."

Literary stories about the lives of boys and men

The debut collection from award-winning short story writer Gregory D. Williams takes us back to the 1970s, a bygone era when parents didn't always know what their children were up to and pre-teen boys were becoming men. In stories about growing up in the dry heat of Phoenix, Arizona, a Little League player bobbles the ball with his first crush. In another story, two friends stake out the house of a neighborhood bully and play a role in a deadly accident. These adolescent boys see moral compromise - and their roles as husbands, fathers, and breadwinners - shimmering like a mirage on the horizon.

Soon, the innocence of childhood recedes into the past. Grown-up life begins. During a practicum on breast-and-rectal exams, an overlooked lump on a sexy partner leaves a med student shaken. A doctor apprehends that the distance between pain-relief and addiction is shorter than he ever imagined. And a man propositioned at a local Starbucks discovers that even in middle age, the dry heat of love still burns.

Stories about seniors touch on emotions at life's end. A widower, busted while honoring his wife's final wish, tells a white lie to escape arrest. A fisherman is startled by the appearance of a talking trout.

In all these stories, the boy lives on inside the man.

For fans of William Trevor, Claire Keegan, Alice Munro, Tobias Wolff, and Niall Williams.

In this generous selection of Joyce Carol Oates’s letters to her biographer and friend Greg Johnson, readers will discover a never-before-seen dimension of her phenomenal talent.

In 1975, when Johnson was a graduate student, he first wrote to Oates, already a world-famous author, and drew an appreciative, empathetic response. Soon the two began a fairly intense, largely epistolary friendship that would last until the present day. As time passed, letters became faxes, and faxes became emails, but the energy and vividness of Oates’s writing never abated. Her letters are often sprinkled with the names of famous people, from John Updike and Toni Morrison to Steve Martin and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. There are also descriptions of far-flung travels she undertook with her first husband, the scholar and editor Raymond Smith, and with her second, the distinguished Princeton neuroscientist Charlie Gross. But much of Oates’s prose centered on the pleasures of her home life, including her pet cats and the wildlife outside her study window.

Whereas her academic essays and book reviews are eloquent in a formal way, in these letters she is wholly relaxed, even when she is serious in her concerns. Like Johnson, she was always engaged in work, whether a long novel or a brief essay, and the letters give a fascinating glimpse into Oates’s writing practice.

It’s 2024 and three-hundred-year-old Hieronymus Karl Friedrich, Baron von Munchausen sits in a bar enjoying a glass of wine over a plate of kippers.

The legendary spinner of tall tales and self-proclaimed “ambassador of the irrational” has just completed a whirlwind tour of America. Crisscrossing an increasingly divided nation, he’s settled a particularly perilous Supreme Court case (mercifully, with the loss of only three justices), verbally jousted with an evangelical preacher on the nature of divine love while riding a church through a tornado, and single-handedly solved the global climate crisis! Now it’s time for a well-earned respite.

Recounting these and other improbable adventures between puffs of an old briarwood pipe, Munchausen bends the ear of his drinking companion, a concerned citizen of the United States who, like many others, trembles for the future of democracy. Together the two contemplate the slow death of rationality in a free society, and whether fear and paranoia will ultimately triumph over hope and reason.

It begs the question: with the body politic at one another’s throats, and daily calls for book bans, wall building, and even civil war, can the fabled cannonball rider and raconteur extraordinaire take on his most outrageous adventure yet and save this country from itself?

The year is 1942: Robert Mann, a brilliant young American physicist of German birth, joins Allied Intelligence. When the assassination of a top Nazi official presents OSS and MI-6 with a rare chance to penetrate the Third Reich, Robert volunteers.

His cover survives one nerve-racking encounter after another as he infiltrates Hitler’s atom bomb program. Then comes the ultimate test: entry into the home of Effi Zell—wife of Christoph Zell—the man Robert is impersonating. Tension builds toward a crescendo, then collapses as Christoph and Effi fall in love. Their torrid affair morphs into a man-woman resistance team. Again, the tension builds…

Robert and Effi perfect the art of deception on their perilous journey toward sabotage. Their goal: to deny Hitler the nuclear weapon that will decide the outcome of World War II. But a new threat of blown cover forces Robert to accept a pivotal role in the bomb’s final stage of development.

The result: an American spy creates the world’s first atomic weapon—for Germany. If Robert cannot “defuse” the bomb, he will have dealt London and Allied armies a fatal blow. He has decided that life is not worth living without Effi. But he cannot contrive an escape until he destroys the monster he has created. Robert faces dilemmas and challenges of historical proportion. Whether he succeeds is a question whose answer the reader will demand to know.

The East Wind is not an ordinary thriller. It is an original, unpredictable nail-biter reminiscent of vintage Le Carré.

So You Wanna Run a Country? is a satirical parable of the perils of authoritarianism, nationalism, and device-dependent groupthink.

After almost a century of being shut off from the rest of the world in self-imposed isolation, the neo-medieval statelet of Inner Azhuur suddenly volunteers to host the next season of the global streaming sensation So You Wanna Run a Country? The producers must now assemble the next crew of unqualified misfits whose ineptitude as they attempt to run the country will entertain billions across the globe.

From Newer York, where homelessness has been eliminated by rebranding it as a Thoroughfarian lifestyle choice, come Mooney and Wendy who meet while sleeping in discarded pipes on a vacant lot—one seemingly directed by Captain Dude, a statue attached to a skateboard, and one on the run after deliberately crashing a large chunk of the speculative economy. Cast as Regent of Inner Azhuur and Consort to the Regent, they are joined by Skid, a Dubliner kicked out of his fledgling band and eager to escape a stultifying job as a tourist ambiance fake street menace in Glasgow.

Arriving in Inner Azhuur, these three encounter a world of antiquated and indecipherable customs, all meant to glorify the vanished ruler, General D’Izmaïe, and return Inner Azhuur to some perceived former glory. As the reality show unfolds, our misfits are enmeshed in a mad power grab of overweening global ambition and find themselves in a struggle against the all-too-real, ruthless and sinister power brokers of Inner Azhuur. Holohan’s mischievous literary voice is sure to please fans of cyberpunk greats like Philip K. Dick and William Gibson.

A profound exploration of emergency medicine practiced at the most remote and challenging frontiers of East Africa. This inspiring memoir finds hope and meaning in the face of extraordinary odds as a young physician asks: What are the ethical and moral dimensions of saving one life knowing countless others will die?

In 2008, a young doctor set out for Kenya to volunteer with the famed AMREF East African Flying Doctors Service. An emergency physician looking to make a difference, Marc-David Munk flew dozens of missions as a flight surgeon to eleven East African countries, including war-torn Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. From his unarmed air ambulance, Munk and his team treated patients suffering with severe trauma, possible Ebola hemorrhagic fever, elephantiasis, malaria, and gunshot wounds. The crew dodged corrupt officials; landed their planes on unlit grass strips, after first scaring away livestock; were threatened by al-Shabaab jihadis, navigated war zones; and clandestinely treated a U.S military serviceman.

They also experienced some of the most beautiful parts of Africa and met the incredible people who live there. The tight-knit crew was passionate about saving lives despite the risks inherent in flights across war zones.

In Urgent Calls from Distant Places, the missions described are real and compelling. Readers will meet sick NGO workers in Somalia, malnourished Ugandan soldiers, suicidal teenagers, violent cow rustlers, American special forces, albino children murdered for their body parts, and even 19th-century explorers David Livingstone and Henry Stanley. Each chapter details the medical challenges of the mission but also explores the greater philosophical questions raised by treating patients in East Africa: African history, the impact of colonialism, communism, religion, terrorism, and war. Munk examines the unique histories and politics of the eleven countries he visits.

In 1985, the shooting of Mr. Marfeo disrupts the quiet suburban neighborhood of Maple Bay and prompts thirteen-year-old Zinnia Zompa to reorganize everything she knows about her parents—their preoccupations, obsessions, and above all, their battles with each other. As her understanding of the world grows, Zinnia sees how the violence she witnesses is part of a larger pattern of domination, one that shadows the world far beyond her neighborhood, and her coming-of-age means reckoning with this darkness.

Praise for L'Air du Temps (1985)

“It’s 1985, the MTV flag is on the moon, and Lincoln Continentals are triplicating in the New England suburb of Maple Bay, where everyone who’s not in jail or divorce court is going off the deep end. A vintage murder-mystery that’s evergreen as a chemically-treated lawn, this smart, tight novella is the arresting and singular cry of thirteen-year-old Zinnia Zompa, who’s troubling the shadows, swerving toward an awakening that might or might not be her ticket out of town.” —Kirstin Allio, author of Buddhism for Western Children, winner of the Iowa Review Prize for Fiction

Megan had always lived life on her own terms, but faced with an impossible prophecy that threatened everything she loved, her choices no longer seemed to be her own. Aylun's world revolved around serving oracles and protecting prophecy, so his insights could be the key to explaining the impossible. Yet how could she force herself to work with the heartless tyrant who had so brutally abducted her?

Megan was always good at solving puzzles. For years, she used that aptitude in a physics lab as an assistant to her best friend, Jon. In the midst of a chaotic day, an accident thrusts them both into a terrifying alternate world. Almost at once, Aylun tears Megan from her best friend's side.

Born and raised to be Shou, Aylun had always been as an agent of the enigmatic home of all prophecy, the Augury. His life had always been dedicated to serving as the invisible hand that carried out the will of Great Oracles, past and present. Still struggling with the death of his sister and friends, a mission gone wrong results in his expulsion from the only home he has ever known.

In search of answers, Megan and Aylun are compelled to undertake a mission into a place of unthinkable peril. As they struggle to find answers, Jon and his new friends, Dellia, Garris, and Kayleen, are drawn into a conflict with a dark and ancient menace that could obliterate everything and everyone they care about. As the puzzles deepen, the horrors multiply, and their situation grows more desperate, Megan's best hope to save them all and return her and Jon to their home world lies with the very tyrant who abducted her, Aylun.

An epic high-fantasy romance about ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, Aylun blends alternate worlds, action, adventure, and dire peril, with political intrigue and a pinch of humor.

Sexy, with razor-sharp humor and heart-tugging romance, Still Alive is a novel to fall into, in love with, and find yourself changed.

V expects a tug-of-war romance with the charming yet withholding LEX to cure her early-2000s ennui, but her family's chaos threatens to derail her overdue adulthood. This fast-paced swirl of memory and action hurtles toward a surprisingly hopeful end.

“Here is the highest compliment I can pay a fellow artist—when I reached the last page, the last line, the final word of L.J. Pemberton’s Still Alive, it was enough.

A love story rendered in a pointillism so wholly convincing it might as well be photo-realism and with just that remove — “It is a comedy, youth” “it is easier to admit how sad I am if I call myself a fool” — that allows us to near the flame and have our own wounds cauterized, not burned. Like watching a skilled surgeon tend to those wounds — figuring out “what is a cut and what is just blood” — and not know which it is that commands the attention, the hurt or the healing.

This is what it’s like when, sometime between getting out of bed and returning to it, you encounter a work of art. This is what it’s like when someone else’s truth reads like your own. This is what it’s like to feel less alone.” —Guillermo Stitch, author of Lake of Urine

The author's husband was a high-functioning alcoholic, a clinical term that belied drinking Scotch for breakfast.

He kept his addiction a secret. Suspecting something was amiss, she became a detective: kissing for the sake of sniffing, discovering trash bags full of empties, flasks in his briefcase and eventually over $60,000 in credit card debt. Her pleas to get help were ignored, her support and encouragement spurned. Each day brought fresh worries—will he get fired, get into a car crash, get killed? Their lives were spiraling out of control forcing her into a front row seat to rock bottom. Then, a devastating diagnosis.

McGloin's story will resonate deeply with partners and loved ones who find themselves dragged down into a scary, out-of-control underworld—addiction, adultery, gambling, financial infidelity—and wondering: What happened to my life?

A comprehensive and compassionate guide to navigating loss.

When social worker Lisa Keefauver became a widow in 2011, she was alarmed to discover that even though 100 percent of us experience loss, we're living in a grief illiterate world. In her work as a therapist, and in her search for help in the wake of her own loss, Keefauver began to see how the misguided stories we consume about grief lead to unnecessary suffering.

Responding to the problematic narratives that grief is something to move on from after completing the five stages like some sort of to-do list, Keefauver became a grief activist. Through this book and her hit podcast of the same title, she creates a safe place to be inside the messiness of it all, to discover the full spectrum of grief, and to find the tools that help grievers move forward, not on. Grief is a Sneaky Bitch is a comprehensive guide--serving as both a manual full of insights and skills and more importantly, as a thoughtful companion that helps readers feel seen and held.

Keefauver shares her personal and professional wisdom alongside the lessons she's learned from clinicians, authors, poets, and friends. In place of rigid instructions and must-do checklists, Grief is a Sneaky Bitch invites reflection, encourages self-compassion, and explores the therapeutic power of humor with, yes, a bit of profanity.

In lyrical prose, with musical allusions, clinical references, and a bit of comic relief, Rearranged follows Kathleen Watt's plunge from the operatic stage into the netherworld of hospital life—its indigenous creatures, its peculiar language, its signposts of the mysterious human condition—through the devastation of cancer, and out the other side.

Kathleen was a New York opera singer at mid-career, with a steady, lucrative chorus job at the Metropolitan Opera and solo gigs elsewhere, anticipating her best year ever. Instead, a rare and vicious bone cancer blew her plans to smithereens, along with her face. She had to let everything go. Bit by bit, through a brutal alchemy of lethal toxins, titanium screws, and infinite kindness, she discovered new arrangements for old pieces, in a life catastrophically transposed. Not only a heart-wrenching medical odyssey, but an ultimately joyous personal journey of transformation.

Michigan’s sunset coast turns deadly when a group of vacationers encounter a dying author who sees the ghosts of children.

When Arnie refuses surgery for his bum knee, Laurel takes the family on a relaxing trip to the beautiful sunset coast on Lake Michigan to recuperate. Accompanying them are Arnie’s sixteen-year-old son, Sawyer, and things are made even better when their close friends Claire and Charles join them for a visit.

The area is known for sand dunes, white beaches, and swimming. An odd manifestation of bioluminescence—floating lights on the lake—creates an eerie prediction of things to come. One that Sawyer jokingly points out because anytime his parents and their friends get together, disaster strikes.

But this time it’s Sawyer’s girlfriend who proves to be the catalyst for trouble when she takes a job at Dune House as a live-in scribe for Maeve, a dying author who sees the ghosts of dead children. When Felicity mysteriously disappears, and then others follow, it’s apparent that Sawyer’s prediction has come true: trouble has come to Lake Michigan.

Following forensic botany clues, Arnie and the remaining group desperately search for the others and walk right into danger. Will Arnie find everyone in time? What mysteries does the Dune House hold? Find this out and more in Sugar Sands, Deb Davies’s latest Coast-to-Coast Michigan Mystery.

Rich in Michigan’s local flavor, beauty, and culture, Deb Davies brings that true “up north feeling” into her writing.

**This book is the third book in the Coast-to-Coast Michigan Mysteries series. These are standalone mysteries featuring the same main characters and can be read independently.**

A humorous and heartfelt book about the complicated relationship between a mother, a daughter, and a grandmother.

Gabrielle Malone shows up on her mother’s Arizona doorstep with nothing more than a few belongings, her teenage daughter, and a car with no air conditioning (don’t ask). The rest she left behind—her house, everything she owned, and her ex-husband. Her estranged mother Ida, a former Olympic swimmer and current chain smoker, needs her help after a significant health scare. Gabrielle hopes this is their relationship’s opportunity for a fresh start, and a new beginning for her too.

Thirteen-year-old Juniper feels stranded at an old lady’s house she barely knows. She’s frustrated that her mom uprooted their entire life for a strange place and misses her dad. Forced to attend the pointless last week of school, she embarrasses herself on the first day and is certain she’ll never make friends again. As if that weren’t bad enough, her mother’s nightly binge-eating and cry sessions are concerning to say the least.

Ida is her own woman, resenting being tethered to the oxygen hoses winding through her house. She looks darn good in the old, framed cigarette ads on her wall, holding her gold swimming medal. Heck, she still looks good. Her neighbor Morton certainly thinks so. She had one little health scare. What’s the big deal? Heart surgery. It’s coming for her. She knows it but likes to pretend she doesn’t.

Ida is shocked to learn her own granddaughter can’t swim. The one legacy she had hoped would carry on for generations is at stake. While her health certainly limits her activities, she knows she must teach the skill that brought her a lifetime of pride. Gabrielle may have laughed at the idea of her frail mother getting back into the pool, but that’s exactly what Ida would do. Teach her to swim.

Learning to Swim is a coming of age novel about three women in different stages of life mending relationships. Shayla Dugan’s debut family drama book is a delightful read full of insight, wisdom, and wit.

Brace yourself for this candid and darkly funny sequel to Lynn Walker’s award-winning book, Midnight Calling: A Memoir of a Drug Smuggler’s Daughter.

Fiercely determined to live without drugs and alcohol, Lynn has rebuilt her life—survived, somehow, her dad and his cocaine—but she can’t seem to find all the pages to life’s instruction manual.

With wit and insight, she takes us on a journey, and what a trip it is! Knocking over chairs and trying not to drink vodka in a Russian castle. Peeing next to a wild grizzly bear. Cocaine-addicted lab rats. Trudging through the wilderness of relationships in search of this thing called love.

Even if you’ve never struggled with addiction or love, you’ll find humor and wisdom in this very human, true story of how we can use just about anything—booze, relationships, even potato chips—to try to change the way we feel.

A Perfectly Good Fantasy is an authentic and stubbornly hopeful memoir but be prepared—you just might catch a glimpse of yourself on this wild ride.

Death does not have to be scary. Everyone dies just like everyone poops. Poetry can make even the most frightening things seem romantic.

My vision for this book is simple. There’s beauty all around us. Fridge-worthy art. Simplicity of a child, complexity of a philosopher. Open as many questions as possible. Believe in something, even if it’s the chair under you holding you up from the ground.

After searching for an illustrator, I realized that I have been doing crayon art for years and that that would be an accessible thing for a child. I sought to capture the innocence of a child who is deeply aware of death. The poem itself is something a child could write, off-set with the adult language of The Prayer of St. Francis. I don’t believe in talking down to children. Vocabulary Is for everyone. Even if you’re illiterate you can enjoy poetry vicariously.

This book is meant to be spoken, A wish for being.

True stories and accidental snapshots about undying love, dementia, old lesbians, family, gentrification, and every New Yorker we bump into.

In this engaging new collection of personal essays and full-color photographs, Moed tells true stories of caring for her mother Florence, a broke, Julliard-trained pianist who stumbles into dementia on the Lower East Side. This funny, poignant memoir asks questions both familiar and touching: “What happened to the neighborhood?” and “What happened to my mom?”

It Was Her New York is for anyone who has ever experienced the aging of a parent, the gentrification of a neighborhood, or the unexpected discovery of stifled love and hidden sexuality.

"Be prepared to laugh, cry, smile to yourself in recognition, and be overwhelmed by the lyrical language and the moving photos. It is the story of a New York childhood on the Lower East Side. It is the story of the pain of a mother’s decline. It is the story of Her New York and once you read its sights, sounds and insights, it will be Your New York too.” —Deborah Edel, cofounder, Lesbian Herstory Archives

She’s funny. She’s redeemable. And she’s dying.

Once A Homecoming Queen is a humorous novel about addiction and redemption, featuring a 75-five-year-old, Francine Fisher-Reynolds-Richelli-Freeman, whose extreme alcohol consumption leads to a bevy of problems including her latest—a fall that leaves her with a broken neck, and compels her daughter and those who care about her to help Francine make peace with her past and reimagine her future.

Angry and resentful about how her life has turned out, Francine's humor is on the dark side, but she's likable and unforgettable—emotionally tender, loving, and authentic with an unflinching personality. Think Phyllis Diller on steroids. Having been a former drug and alcohol counselor, and as the adult child of an alcoholic, I wanted to write a uniquely entertaining story about addiction as it relates to family dynamics and dysfunction. Most books about addiction are nonfiction, specifically memoirs about much younger protagonists, or they're too heavy on psychology and are painful to read. I was drawn to write a story about an older, female alcoholic because their stories are not told.

Praise for Once a Homecoming Queen

“Joan Moran’s latest novel, Once A Homecoming Queen, is an insightful but heartbreaking story about one woman’s battle with addiction and its impact, not only on herself, but on all those who love her. Get ready for a rollercoaster ride through her life.” —Nancy Cushing-Jones, Creative Projects Group President, Publishing, Media & Branding, Executive Producer

“...a powerful novel with a badly needed message. With more stories about elderly addiction it gets easier to help people in need. Before you get the chance to experience the film for yourself, get to know more about the writer behind it and learn what you can expect from the story right here.” —Frankie Stein, Film Daily

Small towns and second chances go together like beach kisses and high school exes.

Whoever said forty was the new thirty was drunk. And as if fresh starts at my age weren’t hard enough, my old flame is now my hot new client. Awkward.

Ryker West: Seashell Cove’s wealthy, smoldering, borderline grumpy silver fox––and also my brooding, borderline arrogant ex.

Me: Meg Daniels, twice-divorced empty nester turned photographer starting over. Again.

My mission: Shoot his posh gala. Quick snaps, no rehashing our past. We’re professionals, right? Wrong. Nothing’s ever simple with Ryker. Every snarky comeback and heated glance feels like high school all over again. Except, maybe a better wardrobe?

Behind my camera, I'm supposed to be invisible, but with Ryker, I’m squirming under his too knowing gaze. Before I know it, we’re both blurring lines we swore we'd never cross again. He's the guy with his heart under lock, I'm the girl who lost the key. And I’m not sure either of us is ready to find it.

This is a later-in-life, sweet with heat, winter beachside tale with all the feels and a sticky, sugary, satisfying HEA you'll never get over. You've been warned.

Series: Polestars (6)

Aliya Whiteley’s fiction has been shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the John W. Campbell, BFS, BSFA, Shirley Jackson, James Tiptree Jr and Saboteur awards.

“When I read Whiteley's short stories I think of Japanese netsuke - magnificent miniatures, perfect in every detail. This latest collection stirs echoes of Franz Kafka, Angela Carter, Ursula LeGuin. I don't know any higher praise than that.” – M.R. Carey

A new collection from one of the most exciting voices in genre fiction. Nineteen stories, eleven of them original to this collection, all themed on travel, be it a desperate need to be somewhere else or a burning desire to escape what is left behind.

Contents:

  • Early Bird
  • Drive or be Driven
  • Luisa Opines
  • Cold Trade
  • The Emblem of Daydreams
  • Your Hero
  • Wrapped
  • The Librarian
  • A Possible Location For Eagles
  • Fernie
  • Ongoing
  • A Million Moving Parts
  • Streamers
  • Pack Your Coat
  • Multiply
  • Rich Growth
  • Beast
  • Something From the Garden
  • At Night, The Road

“Rich Growth”… keeps the focus on transformation and the lines between people and the natural world. Here gardeners use their own blood and energy to grow vines up to precious gemflowers… and the story explores the grief and freedom that comes along with that.” – Locus

‘Luisa Opines’ is a real oddity, part fairy tale, part satirical comment on social/marketing surveys that attempt to mould our preferences… The story is quirky and surreal, and concludes with a great line that signals Luisa’s refusal to accept certainty.” – IZ Digital

“The Artisan’s crew are the Galaxy’s best traders and have come to trade with the giants, a large species of sea creature that has never responded to anything in the past… an unusual tale that kept most of its cards hidden until the end. It was an entertaining story that just managed to keep on the correct side of the confusion/mystery boundary.” –Tangent online reviewing “Cold Trade”.

All I did was go away for the weekend; by the time I'd returned, my husband had killed himself.

It was thirteen years into my marriage before I realised Simon had bipolar. Despite our difficulties, I was living the life I'd always dreamt of. We were renovating our Victorian home, working hard in our respective careers, and considering adopting our second child. However, with each manic episode, my dreams were slowly deteriorating into heartbreak and sadness.

In this raw and honest memoir, I want to share with you what it was like to live with someone who had bipolar and how I eventually came to terms with my husband's suicide.

I hope this story will offer comfort and education to anyone struggling with mental health or grief.

The definition of a sanctuary is 'a place of refuge'.

Why would Melissa Jones ever need such a thing? She's led an ordinary life and, as far as she can recall, has never angered anyone. But an invitation to attend the funeral of an old school friend, of whom she has no recollection, and a meeting there with a woman called Danika, who is convinced Melissa's life is in danger, persuade her that she may, after all, need that sanctuary if she wants to stay alive.

Overseeing the work of the sanctuary is Verity Trask. Her duty is to ensure the safety of all the women who find themselves in her care, including Melissa. It's a duty she takes very seriously as Verity understands the true nature of the threat they all face, a threat that exists because of a single, horrific event centuries ago, an event known simply as the incident at Brathy Beck.

What makes a hero? What makes a villain?

Forget Marvel and DC, forget the Avengers and the Justice League, this is a story of African superheroes written by African authors who share a deep love of the comic book and longstanding immersion in its culture.

As well as co-writing the narrative, Tade Thompson has provided the cover art and nine internal illustrations which appear throughout the text. It should be stressed, however, that this is not a comic book. It is a novella, interspersed with illustrations. A thrilling story that demonstrates the fragile boundary between hero and villain, as two superpowered brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the moral divide; a story that provides stark contrast to the treatment of African superheroes by the big comic book companies even as it entertains.

In addition to the novella itself, this volume also includes interviews, articles, and even some of the initial email exchanges between the two authors when first discussing to project; these appear as 'bonus material' at the back of the book.

The Last Pantheon is dedicated to the memory of Nick Wood (1961 - 2023)

A ghost's antics, a harrowing moose chase, a hypnosis session, and smuggled booze lead to spilled secrets and betrayal, but do they also lead to murder?

At a hot springs retreat in Montana, whiskey-swigging Maude, the nearly eighty-year-old chef, longs for the glory days when the retreat hosted martini-sipping celebrities instead of long-haired hippies who refuse to wear deodorant. Brooke, feisty, adventurous, and a bit reckless, proposes a reunion at the retreat with her best friends to get away from the chaos of her life with teenagers and the emotional aftermath of her postponed wedding. One of those friends, Tracy, has devoted her life to her children and her husband despite her excruciating boredom. But a long-held secret could cost her the most important friendships in her life. Haunting the place is a ghost who, in life, dealt with tragedy by turning to prostitution which led to her murder over 100 years ago at the very place they all are staying.

What Happens in Montana explores friendship, betrayal, and forgiveness with blunt truth and witty insights. Together, these friends learn to navigate empty nests, infidelity, deception, and poltergeists. Most importantly, they learn their friendship is strong enough to get them through it all.

Burne hid behind a tree. He wanted to talk to the handsome man picking flowers at the edge of the forest, but he'd only flub it if he tried-he'd stumble over his words and blush bright red. And now the man is gone.

He tries to continue on to the village, but the same thing happens as always: his hands start shaking and panic wells up inside him. What if he runs into the bullies who tormented him in the King's Guard last spring? Ever since he deserted, he has hidden out in the forest.

So he turns back toward home. Next time, he promises himself as he retreats into the trees. Next time he'll be brave enough to enter the village. Next time he'll talk to the handsome stranger instead of hiding. But next time will be sooner than he thinks.

Because the stranger is Gray, a fairy and a master of illusions, who's now following Burne home. And Gray's got more on his mind than talking. Would a fairy that beautiful ever want someone like him? Stranger things have happened.

The Woodland Stranger is a cozy fantasy romance with lighthearted adventure and fun magic-a forest road trip with a charming fairy along for the ride. Each book in the Sylvania series can be read on its own but might contain spoilers for previous books. The Woodland Stranger contains love scenes and depictions of anxiety.

Phee hides her secrets well, until they become too much to bear. Her biggest secret is one she’s kept even from herself. Her longest-kept secret is one that hurts her every day. Her final secret is one that will set her free.

In a school that doesn’t accept them, Phee, Theo, and Alex fight for a community close to their hearts. The community desperately needs the trio to help the rest of them leave the shadows without fear of violence and discrimination. Through some heroic activism, the three push the school officials to their limits — forcing them to act — for better or worse.

For Phee, the fight for a place where she can be herself doesn’t stop when she gets home. The strain of taking care of her alcoholic and abusive mother threatens to break Phee away from her family bond forever. Her mother can go from a messy drunk to an angry one in an instant, turning Phee’s home life from an obligation to a war zone.

Theo’s house offers respite to Phee. With compassion scarce in her life, Alex and Theo are Phee’s light in the dark. They protect and cherish her. At Theo’s, Phee is free to be herself and explore her identity safely — her chosen family ready to catch her if she falls. That’s what family does, how family finds us when we feel lost and alone.

In your discussions with those who don't believe in God, have you heard one of the following?

  • We don't really know how Christianity started
  • Christianity is a made-up religion just like all of the others
  • Christianity has too many legends and myths mixed in with the truth to know what is real and what isn't
  • The New Testament is written too late after the events to be a reliable source for knowing the truth about Jesus
  • There is no evidence for Christianity

In this short book, we are going to take a look at answers to all of these questions and more, with one of the goals being that you will be better equipped and more confident to share your faith with others.

How Did Christianity Begin? can be used as a reference book to which you can access often as well as in a class, small group or Bible study at your church.

As the title suggests, we start by asking the question, "How did Christianity begin?” and take it from there. The key to this approach is that it starts with common ground- the existence of Christianity. This is one thing that all people of all beliefs agree on- that Christianity exists. This may sound pretty simplistic, but God can use it in a powerful way.

A new series celebrating women of a certain age with a passion for history… and a craving for a little mystery in their lives.

A decade ago, thieves stole antiquities from a museum display in Paris. The exhibit, titled “The Executed Queens” contained heirlooms belonging to Anne Boleyn, Marie Antoinette, and Mary, the Queen of Scots. No one has seen the relics since.

Giovanni di Caro is an expert on historic books, a pizza snob, and the alleged forger of Galileo’s treatise on astronomy. He’s in a close relationship with Iris Dittmeyer, so he’s understandably apprehensive when he gets a mysterious, threatening letter:

A box, book, and a parcel of letters must be restored to their rightful owner. Don’t delay or your queen will meet the same fate as those other charming ladies.

The cryptic message contains an unpleasant revelation for Iris. Finding the stolen items is vital…but so is protecting her heart.

When a lead on Anne Boleyn’s book takes them to New York City, they find a cantankerous book dealer slumped over in his wheelchair. Iris and Giovanni become entangled in the drama that follows. As they work to unravel the truth behind his death and locate the missing book, the couple encounter secrets everywhere. Including inside a medieval book of prayers.

A few dead queens are nothing to lose your head about….

A Vengeful RealmQuick Look
Digital audiobook

Peace bought by blood seldom lasts, for vengeance knows no end. The same is true for mortals and Gods alike.

Decades, centuries, eras may pass, but the cycle remains. As war and revolution rise again, Zephyrus finds himself at the center of it all. Chosen by the Gods, hailed as a prophet of liberation, and forged as a weapon to break the kingdom and restore balance to the realm, hope rests squarely on his shoulders.

If only he could remember…

Enslaved as a gladiator and thrust into a prince’s game of espionage, Zephyrus has only two clues to help unlock his shattered past: a prophecy foretelling destruction, and a letter to the enemy king, promising peace. Now Zephyrus must survive the dangers of the gladiatorial arena, the cunning fury of the Prince’s enemies, and the Gods’ torment if he is to find the truth of his identity and fulfill his fate. But to have any hope of breaking the cycle, first he must secure his freedom—and not just from his slavers.

Within this vengeful realm, a queen protecting her kingdom, a prince defending his father, and a gladiator slave haunted by a prophecy each contend for their own brand of freedom. But the Gods have an agenda of their own, and they'll use any vessel—patrician, plebeian, or slave—to see it done.

The scales must be balanced. By peace. Or by blood.

In the not-so-distant year of 2038, a world on the precipice of chaos is divided into two stark realms: the meticulously governed suburbs, where AI reigns supreme, and the lawless, untamed urban wastelands that sprawl beyond.

It is within this fragile equilibrium that the fate of humanity hangs by a thread. At the heart of this compelling futuristic thriller lies an audacious plan conceived by a disillusioned English boy. His objective: to rescue the luminous Asian pop star, Suki, from the clutches of a world defined by its horrors. Yet, destiny has a different script in mind—one that draws Joe Jones, a weary New York cop, into the vortex of an incomprehensible global conspiracy. A wave of unprecedented system failures ripples across the fabric of civilization, from the once-reliable driverless vehicles to the volatile fluctuations of the stock market.

Amid this mayhem, a singular figure emerges—Joe Jones—tasked with deciphering the intricate web of sabotage and deceit that now engulfs the world. As chaos tightens its grip and uncertainty becomes the norm, Joe races against time. His mission is twofold: to save his estranged family from the chaos that threatens to engulf them and to protect the enigmatic pop star, Suki, who harbors secrets that could alter the course of humanity. As he delves deeper into the labyrinthine conspiracy, Joe must uncover the truth behind the British boy's audacious actions—a truth that carries the specter of apocalyptic consequences. In a relentless pursuit through a landscape where technology and human vulnerability intertwine, Joe navigates a treacherous path.

With stakes higher than ever and the survival of humanity hanging in the balance, he must confront the very essence of the human spirit. Will Joe Jones succeed in thwarting a sinister plot that has the power to extinguish mankind? Can he unveil the hidden truths before they plunge the world into darkness? In this enthralling tale, the boundaries of technology, morality, and the human condition blur, revealing the extraordinary lengths one man is willing to traverse to safeguard the ones he cherishes and prevent the annihilation of a world on the brink.

Once upon a time, we were free to go wherever we chose. It wasn’t so long ago. The history of humanity, is a tale of constant motion.

People are supposed to move about. We have imaginations which encourage us to dream about life in other places, bodies which are built to roam, and hands which can make an array of vehicles. A few of us even possess the “Wanderlust Gene”, which encourages us to take risks – to sail across unchartered oceans, and launch ourselves towards faraway planets.

Some of us are forced to relocate. Lots of us choose to migrate. A few of us belong to nomadic communities.

But if one thing is clear, it’s that mobility improves our societies. Emigrants send back billions in remittances – helping to reduce poverty, and inspiring their peers to upskill. Immigrants do the work that their hosts are unwilling or unable to perform. They sustain economies which have ageing populations. They establish industries, invent products, create jobs, increase wages, fuel growth, pay taxes, and enrich our cultures – enhancing our music, arts, sports, languages and cuisine.

It's time to celebrate movement! It’s time to demand our freedom! It’s time for open borders!

This book explains why – making the historical, scientific, economic, cultural, political and philosophical cases for free movement.

U.S.M.C. veteran Jay Sutherland is now the youngest district attorney in New York’s history. Finds himself in an epic battle against the ghosts of his past that could see him lose everything he holds dear.

This is a fight he can’t afford to lose…

Advanced praise

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Early John Grisham vibes with this clever thriller, which takes you into the legal world and leaves you wondering who the good guys really are. I found the main character compelling and the easy writing style made for an immersive reading experience.” – Louise G, Reviewer via NetGalley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I was brought to all emotions while reading this book (in 2 days mind you). I was happy, sad, angry…. I sure hope that there are more books following Jay Sutherland in the future. I definitely want more.” – Kimberly B, Reviewer via NetGalley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Page turner!

“Honestly, it usually takes me a week to read a book, but I read Twisted Fate in a single sitting. The story takes you on a journey with the main character and really draws you in. The book is believable, the characters are real. The tragedies sting and your heart rejoices at each victory. The Author ties everything together well, and unlike some other books in this genre, nothing feels contrived or forced. I closed the last page with a smile and was left wanting more.” – Mike V. Reviewer via NetGalley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Great!

“Enjoyed the book immensely wasn’t drawn out. Shed a tear, Couldn’t put it down, had to find out the ending good ending ❤️ “ – Christine Reviewer via NetGalley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Adam Lewis’s debut novel Twisted Fate is a page turner that I finished in just one day. I usually don’t read this type of book, but once I started, I was completely invested in the main character, Jay Sutherland. Jay had had a very rough start in life, and like many others like him, he could have gone down a completely different path. But thanks to several people who showed enough that they cared, he became a man of substance. With his grandfather as his role model, he set his own standards high, and he believed in justice. It was time for him to settle the score.

I do hope this is the beginning of a series because I would like to see a lot more of Jay Sutherland in the future. Many thanks to Net Galley for an ARC of this book, and my opinions are my own.” – Diane Nagatomo via NetGalley.

For the greater good.

Follow Ata's travails through royal intrigues, violent invasions, and hard-forged alliances as she fights alongside friend and foe for the survival of the continent of Áitarbith. Thirteen-year-old Oliver has moved to a new town and school with his mom after his dad disappeared two years earlier.

Leaving his best friend David behind, he’s begun a tentative friendship with his classmate Logan, who spend time together playing the world’s most popular video game series, Razer. But when fellow gamers start falling into comas—more than sixty million worldwide—they learn that the artificial intelligence of the game has become massively powerful and impossible to control. The AI has gone rogue and is harnessing the neural brain power of gamers through their headsets, launching an attack to take over the world’s infrastructure and holding everyone hostage in its wake.

Their only hope to save humanity is to eradicate the AI by beating it at its own game. And who better to accomplish that than the teen gamers obsessed with Razer. A secret agency of the government has been aware of the AI war, such as it is, and has launched an offensive by using the very segment of the population that the AI is targeting, teens, and recruiting them to fight on a virtual video game battlefield with an enemy consisting of cyborgs led by a ruthless and ganglike AI leader of the same name, Razer. Now Oliver and Logan are part of those teens recruited into gaming assault troops, launching a coordinated global strike to force their way into the AI’s mainframe and take it down…before it’s too late.

A thought-provoking and intellectual story about our existence among and reliance on computers, technology, and the rising use of artificial intelligence.

He is alone in a nightmare landscape, until he catches the gaze of Preghiera. She is the lonely teenage daughter of an embittered old butcher, with dangerous entanglements in the local camorra. Which foundational force is synonymous with our universal quest for human purpose? Destiny. With a capital D.

The Destiny Book: Rediscovering the Mother of Spirituality traces this enigmatic phenomenon from its origins across epochs, cultures, and theological traditions to unveil its enduring impact and necessity.

From ancient mythology to contemporary science, Destiny, fate, and related notions like karma, fortune, and determinism have set the tone for ethics, religions, and ideas of free will.

The Destiny Book offers a fresh perspective on the history of this timeless concept and its lasting significance for the human spirit—while challenging hubris, complacency, and common wisdom. It shows why uncounted millions of people worldwide say every day, “It’s Destiny.”

Traveling in Wonder is not your typical travel journal turned book-it's not even a travel guide.

Instead, Traveling in Wonder: A Travel Photographer's Tales of Wanderlust reads like a letter from Autumn to the many countries she's visited, first as a student traveling abroad, then as a flight attendant, a travel agent, and more recently, a travel photographer.

With a gift for storytelling, Autumn invites the reader into what she was experiencing in each country. She also weaves in reflections on a broader level-her thoughts on being bullied, anxiety, falling in love, and how we're all more alike than we may believe.

Explore Autumn's words for tips and best practices on traveling. Discover Autumn finding her identity not in her goal of 30 countries within 30 years but in who she became because of the people she met, both abroad and at home, and what they taught her about life.

Traveling in Wonder is also a love letter to self, and the courage it takes to get on a plane and go, but also in choosing not to run away from your problems in the present, and equally, letting ordinary days teach you more about yourself.

Transit is the story of Dr. Jessamyn Quilter, who commits the perfect murder, killing her abusive husband with cunning and consummate skill. She gets away scot–free, but her evil deed unbalances the cosmos.

Desperate to make a fresh start, she books a lengthy voyage on the container ship MV Andaman Pearl to contemplate her future. After an auspicious beginning, things go terribly wrong. Her quest to atone leads deep into the Amazonian rainforest and an unlikely assortment of jaguars, shamans, pink dolphins, teacher trees, and the guardians of the cosmos, Grandmother Aya and Anaconda Woman.

Transit is a riveting, multilayered tapestry that defies genre, twisting and turning like the mighty Amazon itself, in a journey of transfiguration. If you like speculative fiction - part thrilling adventure, part magical realism, and part coming-of-age narrative, Transit might be your kind of novel.

Kirkus Reviews
says "Our verdict: ✓ Get It."

The Independent Review of Books calls Transit "A visionary read ... continually surprising and intellectually audacious."

BookView lauds its "Diabolical plotting, swift pacing, and meticulous worldbuilding" declaring it "a thrilling journey from start to finish."

Series: Traveler's Luck (1)

The lucky ones were taken by the deeps. The rest will only escape by banding together.

When a trio of young mages set off on an unsanctioned expedition into the isle's interior, they are expecting to find their powerful masters instead of the shipwrecked survivors of the Crown's harvest vessel. A constable, a smuggler, and a naturalist join the magicians on a desperate journey to leave the island before they fall victim to an army of monstrous, sea-dwelling scavengers, a cult of the undead, and something unseen that leaves destruction in its wake.

They say the gods watch over travelers on the road, and so listen to the tales they tell. As much as the struggle for survival, and the battles fought side by side, the stories they share in the small hours bind them together in love and laughter.

"The wound is the place where the light enters you." - Rumi

Poetry, a timeless art, represents the beauty of life in the simplest of words, bringing forth the sentiments of the heart.

Move across 'The Last Bus,' where love prevails in the regret of an unfinished tale. 'Faded Memories' shows a teenage girl's heart, enamored by an unforgettable love. 'The Moon of the New Moon' is a protagonist's words calling his lover to come back. It is filled by a lover back with poignant reasons, representing his changed world since the day she left. 'Art might live on, Artists won't' showcases the immortality of the art, contrasting the fleeting nature of its creators.

'A Song of Ache' resembles the collective sorrow we carry, through those shared aches, and we all are moving ahead with those burdens of grief. 'Moon and You' challenges the moon's beauty against the ache of lost love, a paradoxical merge of pain and self-destruction. 'Worthy of Pain' is a silent plea of a wounded heart, unheard amidst the convincing statements of understanding. It is a reply from the protagonist to her lover, who told her that he understands the pain she went through when they fell apart.

'A Year of Love' paints the seasons with the phases of love, questioning whether it leads to a beautiful finale or a tragic ending. 'Solitude' is about the silent battles of a poet's heart, longing for love without compromising self-respect.

Beyond these titles, a lot more is inside this poetry collection which combines diverse themes, from child psychology to nature's grandeur, mythology's whispers, and the protagonist's enduring pain. Read through these myriad facets of existence, as each emotion spills out of the protagonist's pen.

This book is dedicated to that someone special who holds our heart, hurts, and heals. To the equilibrium in our unbalanced life and the reason to live. It's a dedication to love, destiny (whether we believe in it or not), and the almighty being who created this universe. Let's cherish the love that remains, irrespective of circumstances. Love once. Love hard. And never leave.

Clover’s war is not without casualties though, and a traitorous bargain sends Morgana Le Fey home with many regrets. Seeking redemption, she finds herself caring for a broken child while traversing the wasteland. They are bound for the Atlantic coast, but across that very sea, a new story unfolds. Grad student Zuri Miller has been conscripted by a Nigerian mercenary after the apocalypse derailed their respective plans. Traveling with the Darkwing Brigade, she must become his conscience as they battle an alien force.

And yet, from such unprecedented chaos, a haven of knowledge has appeared on a distant world. They are calling out to all denizens of the Milky Way, ready to build a crossroads at the center of the universe.

Back in the mid 20th century, Brian was born...

There were probably many Brians born, but this one is still going, still active, still looking for love in places as far afield as The Philippines, Thailand, and Crawley. Based on Facebook entries and haphazard emails, this is an attempt to document an unusual life based on wit, wisdom, energy, intelligence, and chance. If you get nothing else from perusing this memoir, you might at least acknowledge that there are survival techniques for living a long life that dont involve pensions, mortgages, stable jobs and soul sapping routines - some of the time.

The book is presented almost unedited to convey Brian's language, thought processes and gregarious nature. Asking him to edit it was like asking Mount Everest to shift over a couple of centimetres. It's insightful, amusing and unusual. It doesn't claim to be a new Samuel Pepys, but it does convey a rare sense of individuality in a world with systems often designed to mould us against our natures.

Horse Girl: A Journey HomeQuick Look
Digital audiobook

A tale of love, life, and finding your way home...

At age nine, as Susanna sat on a horse for the first time, an unbreakable bond was forged. It set the stage for a lifelong odyssey for this determined girl and her devotion to her equine companions.

From lush Brazilian rainforests to serene Swedish farms, from thrilling British derby banks to the picturesque wine hills of France, this is a story that spans continents, careers, and crossroads. From driven Olympians to bold bullfighters, from kind horsemanship trainers to daring jumpers, each character who crossed her path shone a light on who she yearned to be.

But as she took the road less traveled, Susanna found herself fighting the constant pressure to fit the norm and perform. She battled the societal traps of who she was expected to be, but, in the end, through her bond with her horse, she found a way to break free. When she did, she found herself living her dream life, even before she knew what it entailed.

Horse Girl is an enchanting memoir of a woman and her unwavering connection to her horses. It’s a tale of love, life, and finding your way home.

The temperatures are dropping in Old Quarry Lake, much to the dismay of the girls and their horse friends.

Shelby is gearing up for her first holiday season away from the city while her friends Katherine, Rose, and Agate teach her about holiday customs in her new home. This includes the Old Quarry Lake Farms Winter Party, which is one of the most important traditions at the barn.

But even though the holiday spirit should be bringing them together, the girls seem to be drifting apart. Agate has her first fall off a horse and has to decide whether she wants to face her fear and try to ride again. Or maybe—as Shelby, Katherine, and Rose fear—this is the end of Agate’s equestrian experience.

Meanwhile, Rose and Whisper are excited to be preparing for their first show season, which means they’re planning to spend the winter working every day with a new trainer.

Everyone has plenty on their mind as the girls join the Simone family to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the city. But when tempers flare at the museum, Shelby wonders what needs to happen to get the girls’ friendship back on track.

Shelby and her friends have a lot to face individually. Together, will they be able to navigate cold weather, the holidays, and loads of scary changes?

The books in the First Strike series trace the life of Dr. Caleb Young, a fictional character who is a composite of our scientific community during the early years of the Cold War.

He was born in 1920 in Berkeley, California, to physicist parents who had migrated from Central Europe to escape the Magyarization process in Hungary. They are physicists at Cal Berkley and home-school Caleb in science and the humanities.Caleb takes the SAT test the first year it is offered, aces it, and is one of the first affirmative action, non-blue blood without boarding school credentials to be admitted to Princeton in 1936. He passes all his undergraduate courses in the space of a year and a half and enters Dr. Eugene Wigner's doctoral program. He is defending his thesis, and critics are becoming vocal when a thundering voice (Einstein's) from the back of the auditorium speaks: "Caleb is correct."

Caleb was awarded his doctorate at the age of eighteen and a half. He goes on to become a staff scientist for the U.S. State Department in 1940 and works with other Hungarian-born scientists on the Manhattan Project until 1945. In late 1947, he becomes the chief science officer for the newly minted CIA.He must invent several schemes to keep the Soviets at bay until the nuclear deterrent becomes a reality in 1953, the first is operation ;Shellgame where the Silverplate B-29s are shuffled around to keep the Russians guessing, the second is operation "Anaconda" where he convinces the Soviets that the B-36 is a n intercontinental bomber capable of a 10,000-mile roundtrip. Caleb also discloses Stalin's demented plot to overrun Western Europe resulting in Stalin's murder by Bulgannin and Khrushchev,

Caleb Young, intent on preventing nuclear war, must balance each side’s perceived balance of power, but to do so, he must “shade” his NIE by inflating Soviet capabilities to forestall an effort by the Strategic Air Command (SAC) to launch a preemptive first strike that would annihilate 300 hundred million civilians.

When the U-2 flights from July 5, 1956, through May 1, 1960, fail to confirm a bomber or missile gap, the national security establishment begins to suspect that Caleb has deliberately falsified his reports.

After John F. Kennedy is assassinated in November 1963, Caleb begins to publicly criticize the composition of the Warren Commission, which upsets President Lyndon Johnson, J. Edgar Hoover, and U.S. Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach who are attempting to minimize any Cuban or Russian involvement to avoid an international incident. But the three are curious about what CIA Director John McCone is not telling them about Oswald’s activities in Mexico City and believe Caleb knows how the CIA has conducted paramilitary operations in the Philippines and Guatemala, among other locations.

Katzenbach instructs the head of his criminal intelligence division, William E. Forde (fictional), to impanel a Grand Jury and issue an office subpoena to rein in Caleb’s public statements and follow the money trail where the CIA has toppled legitimate democratic regimes. Over the next ten months, Forde deposes Caleb and is tasked with developing a complete profile of him, including his childhood years and education. Caleb delays and obfuscates to protect Forde and his family from the Agency’s counterintelligence unit.

The final 100 pages of Book III take place in 2028 when a conflict between China and the United States takes center stage over a 092 Xia class submarine the Chinese sold to North Korea in 2024. That increases tension with the United States over Naval operations in the Taiwan Straits. The submarine fires on the United States, and the United States retaliates by sinking several Chinese ships. The Chinese seek to allay Putin’s fears over environmental damage, but Putin refuses based on advice from his scientific community. The Chinese launch on the United States, and the new US ABM system is severely tested. Even though the United States escapes major damage, the debris and residue lofted into the atmosphere by the explosions from more than 500 450-kiloton warheads, launched by just four Ohio class submarines on China, result in a nuclear famine across almost the entire surface of Earth.

When Johnny's underpants are stolen, such is his outrage that he takes a solemn vow: Until the day he tracks down the underpants thief and brings him to justice, he will 'go commando.'

Deprived of his jocks and driven by a relentless desire for justice, he investigates not only the theft of his undergarment but also the circumstances surrounding a trail of bodies left in south London by the 'underpants killer.'

Could the underpants thief and the underpants killer be the same person? Is the serial killer a 'trophy hunter'? With no jocks on, will Johnny get a chill in his kidneys? These are the questions Johnny must answer as he 'rides bareback' in his quest to find the culprit.

The land resembles southern France in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. We explore the ideas of poverty and wealth that lead to the French Revolution, specifically from a viewpoint of a power reversal that invalidates the need for a revolution.

There are faeries, a lot of blood, creeping horrors and angry soldiers.

We follow a figure who is usually cast as the villain - a violent half-fae with few scruples. As the story develops we learn she is fighting tooth and claw not only to preserve her way of life, but to prevent a war that would slaughter thousands, and halt a mighty power struggle brewing among the fae.

Will her growing feelings for one of the soldiers prove to be her salvation or her downfall?

Shindo Dacan is a socially awkward but gifted engineer who has made the most brilliant machines seen since before the All-Silence—machines that ruler Vibrun Magrite used in his creation of the Domain as he brought all four of the city-states within his iron grip.

With the help of a friend of his, Shindo is secretly planning to provide prosthetic limbs to the many victims of the war his machines have waged.

When Magrite finds out and slaughters Shindo’s friend before his eyes, Shindo tricks Magrite into funding a warrior mech to wreak revenge and is unwillingly rewarded with a woman from Magrite’s harem, Jarim Alsaedon. With his mech machine and Jarim’s help, Shindo stages a coup d’état that leaves Magrite dead and him and his accomplice as platonic dual heads of state.

As Shindo and Jarim work to rebuild their civilization, they’re beset by factions both within and beyond the Domain’s borders. Can Shindo learn how to design a stable peace before the new world he’d envisioned becomes a wasteland of death and destruction?

Get ready for giggles and surprises in 'I Have to Scoop What?', where Maya and her best friend Lily (who has a secret of her own) team up with Waggers, a playful rescue puppy. Maya is faced with a not-so-fun task: scooping Waggers' poop. Yuck! Determined to avoid this messy chore, she dreams up the funniest plans, causing chaos in the neighborhood, especially with the bewildered “true red Puddin’ Heads.”

This book is a rollercoaster of laughter, friendship, and unexpected family ties. It's a story about taking responsibility, even when it means dealing with the not-so-glamorous parts of pet care, and finding courage in the most unexpected places. Perfect for kids who love a good laugh and parents who value a little lesson in every story, 'I Have to Scoop What?' is a spirited journey through one of the wackiest neighborhood you'll ever visit.

Even if you’ve never struggled with addiction (or love), you’ll find humor and wisdom in this very human, true story of how we can use just about anything—booze, relationships, even potato chips—to try to change the way we feel.

A Perfectly Good Fantasy is an authentic and stubbornly hopeful memoir but be prepared—you just might catch a glimpse of yourself on this wild ride.

Series: Children of the Nexus (Companion)

Amanah knows all-too-well the dangers of catching the attention of the upper class of Arruk. Using her position as a guard to steal secrets of healing and help other lower class people means she must remain unnoticed, working from the shadows.

Fellow guard Taunos is boisterous, laughing, larger than life-and always around. He attracts attention as easily as breathing, which makes being associated with him dangerous. Better to stay far away, regardless of her attraction to him and his easy calm.

But when Amanah inadvertently insults a magistrate, she must flee the city to avoid his vengeance. She takes a last-minute job escorting a pair of noblemen to another town-a job Taunos is also hired for.

As she spends more time with Taunos, his confident charm draws her in, especially when he uncovers her dream of becoming a healer and offers to help make it a reality. Taunos sees her as no one else has, even when she's doing her best to be invisible. But opening herself to romance might be as dangerous as the wildlife and bandits they face in the wilderness.

Yet as the end of her mission looms, she's not sure she can resist the draw of Taunos and of pursuing her dreams, even if it means drawing the ire of those in power.

Children of the Cross intricately weaves the lives of three resilient children, navigating a complex world that continuously shapes their existence. Amidst conflicting ideologies, they tenaciously cling to their faith.

Against the backdrop of familial conflicts and generational clashes, the narrative immerses readers in the intricacies of relationships. The emotional core is forged through a daughter's tearful questioning of her place in a world defined by a profound generational gap. Her plea for understanding echoes poignantly, lost amidst parental discord, leaving her adrift in a sea of uncertainties.

The tension deepens with a pastor's fervent desire for his son to embrace a sacred calling, leading to a compelling exploration of faith and familial expectations. Fate, in its mysterious design, intricately weaves these individual struggles into a singular tapestry, molding destinies in unexpected ways.

A surprising twist unfolds as the narrative reveals a clandestine relationship between two girls, Felicity and Portia.

“So what’s this “silly game” of yours.” Felicity asked sitting by Portia. “You insisted that nobody sees us, so here we are.” She added. Portia looked at her and drew closer to her looking straight into Felicity’s eyes. “Why?” Felicity asked confused. But Portia placed a finger on her lip. “It’s something I learnt from one of the movies. There were two women.” She whispered.

Their passionate kiss sparks a tumultuous reaction from Felicity's mother, who grapples with societal expectations and undergoes an evolution in her understanding of her daughter's identity.

“You devil.” “You devil”. “I should have known. You’re not… you’re not my daughter.”

Children of the Cross emerges as a poignant exploration of identity, family dynamics, and the burdens of societal norms. The relationships between parents and children navigate unexpected turns, challenging established notions and leaving both readers and characters captivated by the capricious twists of fate. This thought-provoking novel reflects on the intricate complexities of human relationships and the profound impact of generational gaps on the shaping of one's identity.

This is the second installment of four, Snow, Sand, School and Stress. It follows on from The Lads From The Pleasant 'B' Team. It is a fact/fiction account of workers employed on the construction of the Mount Pleasant airfield in the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean in the 1980's after the conflict there and then follows the fortunes of some of the workforce who move on to work in the warmer climes of Algeria, North Africa.

The story captures the lives of the workers in both areas of the world, from the isolation, cold and remoteness of the Falkland Islands to the heat and dust of the North African country. It takes the reader, From Ice To Sand.

India’s Road to Transformation: Why Leadership Matters describes the critical role of political leadership in India which began post-independence until this present age.

Since India’s independence from Britain in 1947, it has been governed by 14 prime ministers, some of whom contributed immensely to its socio-economic development than others. The book shows how using Mahatma Gandhi’s unifying philosophy to rally all Indian people together, great prime ministers such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, and now Narendra Modi have channeled their energy, power, and political influence to significantly improve the livelihood of the Indian people through their economic and social transformative agendas.

India’s Road to Transformation: Why Leadership Matters is not your typical history book about India; it is a well-researched and neatly documented role of leadership for India’s development, joining the historical dots of socio-economic successes achieved by each predominant Indian government since 1947.

By reading this well-prepared book, you will discover:

  • The historical values and structures of India and how they changed over time due to varying political processes and internal strife.
  • India’s diversification of its economic activities from an agrarian community to a merchant/trade society and now to a technologically advanced, modern country.
  • The transformative actions/steps taken by some prominent Indian leaders, from Nehru to Modi, learning how their timely and effective socio-economic programs saved India from collapsing.
  • Some comparative economic yardsticks between India, China, Japan, and the Southeast Asian nations.
  • Important suggestions from the authors of this book about how India can sustain its current growth rate and eventually become a superpower such as the US and China.

"Gloriously absurd." — Kirkus Reviews

"An absolutely hilarious story." — Reader Views

Dive into W.T. Kosmos' debut young adult novel, a humorous satire on modern-day social issues. Told through the eyes of a teacher visiting Blaze Union and the Puddin' Head Schools to cure a bad case of absurdity neurosis, this sharp and witty narrative offers a unique lens on the divisiveness pervading education.

Welcome to Island Nation, where the rivalry between the Puddin’ Heads and Sweeties is legendary, and absurdity reigns supreme. After 14-year-old Blaze Union is reprimanded during bootstraps and Code Blue combat training, attacked by Sweeties at her Puddin’ Head school, and to top it off, expelled for defying “large hand” rules, this guitar-playing rebel reaches her breaking point, vowing to become the boss of all schools.

However, as her mission to lead the nation’s schools gains momentum, Blaze’s ambitions spark a few unexpected challenges: catastrophic leadership failures, an island of outraged Sweeties, a seemingly disastrous tour of schools (including charging, spoon-wielding “true red Puddin’ Heads”), and unforgettable showdowns with Education Minister Pompavich and the tiny-handed “supreme” prime minister himself. Will Blaze's dreams be doused, or will facing hard truths and formidable foes ignite a movement of liberation from lunacy?

Catapult into a journey of courage, unity, maybe a few head butts, and the power of a good laugh in the face of absurdity. Strap on your spoon helmet, and let the uproar begin!

For ages 12 to 128.
