On Friday I had my last meeting at the Town Hall, a portfolio briefing to tie up some loose ends and approve a business case. After that I went out for some lunch with Jayne and we went to two new(ish) places in Crawley.

Sociable Crawley
July 2nd, 2017 · Comments Off on Sociable Crawley · Life
We went along to two events this weekend that really capture the sociable side of living here. On Saturday there was a lot of activity in the Memorial Gardens in the town centre as part of Crawley festival. There was entertainment on the main stage and various stalls all around. There was Runway Radio piping […]

A Manor Royal mystery
December 26th, 2013 · Comments Off on A Manor Royal mystery · Life
We walk our dogs round the Manor Royal inductrial estate quite a bit, especially at night. As nobody lives there it doesn’t matter if they, or we, make a bit of noise. It is quite interesting to see all the different companies that operate there from giants like Virgin and Doosan to small businesses like […]
IMAX coming to Crawley – or is it?
February 23rd, 2012 · Comments Off on IMAX coming to Crawley – or is it? · Life, Technology
The local papers are making a lot of fuss about the Crawley multiplex opening an IMAX screen next month. On the face of it this is a good thing. At the moment there are only 19 IMAX screens in the UK, so it is a bit of a coup. The only worrying thing is that […]
Crawlé

Last week there was a report in the local paper about Nestlé moving their HQ from Croydon to Crawley. I was quite stunned by this for several reasons. One is that the local papers have been full of ‘jam tomorrow’ stories about businesses moving into the area lately. These stories herald everything as a done […]
Road casualties in Crawley and Horsham

First of all I must heartily recommend this post from the As Easy As Riding A Bike blog. It is an analysis of road deaths and injuries in Horsham, based on information from the ITO website’s road casualty map. The rest of the blog is well worth a look too. It would be interesting to […]
Crawley Anthem

On Thursday night I went along to the Hawth where there was a meeting about something called the Crawley Anthem. This is a project which aims to write a song about the town, arrange it, record it and film it. Anybody with first-hand experience of my musical abilities will be relieved to know that my […]

An auspicious start

I see that Crawley has spawned a new blog: the author is Peter Lamb. I have every confidence that he will fill the gaping hole left in the Crawley blogosphere by Danivon moving up North. OK, so he hasn’t actually written anything yet, but I have a good feeling about it because he comes highly […]
Thanking Laura Moffatt
January 15th, 2011 · 11 Comments · Politics
Last night Jayne and I went out to the Arora hotel to a party that was being thrown to thank Laura Moffatt for her work as Crawley’s MP before she retired last year. It was supposed to be a surprise party, and if Laura did suspect anything she is not going to spoil anybody’s time […]

The horror, the horror
December 27th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Life
I walked round the corner to the County Oak retail park this afternoon, and very quickly came straight back again. It was madness, and I am so glad I was on foot and not part of the bad-tempered, horn-blowing mass of people looking for the mythical last parking space. I think I may be turning […]
