Watford might not thank me, but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there -- given what he's done since he's come in -- and let him sign the contract and go

For a large number of United fans, the sale of Tom Cleverley will be welcome news. On social media I've read hundreds of messages offering to drive him personally to Villa Park etc. And others saying things such as "good riddance" and still others attacking him with a fair amount of vitriol.
Firstly, yes Cleverley hasn't performed at a level anywhere near many of us had hoped. Yes he is frustrating to watch the majority of the time. No, he's probably not good enough to be in our first team. But the level of abuse this guy has received by United "fans" is just ridiculous. As a club and as United fans I thought we were above subjecting our own players to this level of abuse. The treatment he's been afforded goes far beyond mere criticism.
I have no doubt Tom gave 100% of his ability every time he pulled on the shirt. Is it his fault he continued to be selected? No, not at all. I'm embarrassed by the way he's been treated by some sections of our fans. Clevs, while things didn't work our for you in the end at United, I know you gave 100% during your time at the club and for this, we thank you.
Edit: Yes, my comments are largely directed at the fans on social media (as stated in the first paragraph) and not towards the majority of subscribers on this sub.
