Podcast Idea Feedback

  • I am sending this query as part of the wordpress learning how to podcast course the exercise is to share my idea here to get feedback on my podcast idea.

my idea for a podcast will be about growing up Gen X. I believe that life is one continuous motion and that we are all interconnected. I believe that older Gen X members have a lot in common with the Boomers and that the older millennials sometimes called Xennials have a lot in common with younger Gen X members. I hope to share what it was like growing up in such a turbulent time. I hope to entertain enlighten and reminisce with my fellow Gen Xers. I have a game plan to lay out an outline and game plan for each episode so that way the reminiscing won’t get out of hand like I hear in other podcasts. I do hope to get lots of feedback on this

  • Hi, there. Feedback seems sparse here, but I’m game. I like your podcast idea and see what you’re seeing in terms of generations. I think 5 years in either direction is spot on. Would you interview people with different perspectives among your fellow Millenials?

  • yes In the beginning it will be just me but I have thought of Guests on the show as well. I am Gen X so yes I would love to have guests from other generations as well

  • Hello.

@thirdeve yes we certainly do need more people chipping in and so thanks for taking part.

@ttroika I think this is a great idea!

So much content is aimed at 20-30 year olds today and as we know there are a lot of other people out there too! So appealing to this demographic makes a lot of sense.

My key question would be, what value do you want to bring to the show? Remember that doesn’t need to be advice or ideas, it could just be escapism back to the times Gen X’ers relate to.

So would it be about telling stories of what happened then and referring to things that the audience will go “oh yes, I remember that!” Will be a gentle reminiscing or will be a look back to “better times”? I’m not saying it should. I’m just saying, it’s important to be clear about what you are offering to people.

There is, as I’m sure you’ve seen a huge potential market for “nostalgia”, and taking people on a journey back to the events they remember could be really strong. It also provokes conversations about what the listeners remember from those times too?

Maybe you could find guests from those key events who have faded from the memory of many who would love to chat? People from public life, bands, notable figures, artists, etc, whatever matches the stories you want to tell. And if you don’t want to reach out, even just people who lived in different parts of your country or the world, who can talk about what times were like during that period. People who no longer have as much attention sometimes like to talk about their heyday and prominent times. Many still promote books or talks based on “their moment in time”.

Equally maybe, your focus is on how GenX’ers feel today?

The key thing, as I say, is to think, what is my podcast offering? It might sound like it’s niching down to much. But you have a lot better chance of success if it’s clear what the podcast is about and what it gives people by listening.

You’ve certainly got a clear demographic in mind and that is a fantastic start!

Hope that helps but feel free to ask more.
