I recently purchased an off brand water rowing machine from Amazon. I’m not looking into getting into rowing competitively and will probably never even row on the water (there are no rivers in my country). My main reason for buying the machine was to build strength and lose some weight. I have to admit I bought it a little impulsively and did not do enough research, this coupled with not wanting to to spend much at the time resulted in a purchase that I now feel was a mistake.
I see a lot of discouragement towards using a water rowing machine here in this sub and I’ve picked up that the industry standard is a concept 2. I bought this machine for my home gym and ideally I’d like for it to pass the test of time and be a reliable machine my family can use for at least the next five-ten years.
All of this considered and now knowing what I know comparing the water rowing machine and the concept 2, would you advise me to return the machine I had bought and put the money towards a concept 2? I found a new one for sale at a good price and it can be delivered as early as tomorrow but time is of the essence as I need to decide whether to return the machine soon.
Please let me know what you guys think, I’d appreciate any advice.
Doesn’t make being on the erg a lot of fun.
I have a weak lower back and core, so I'm avoiding rowing on water for now. I'm wondering if erging has the same risks of injury to the lower back, and injury in general. Any thoughts/experience?
11million 4 hundred and 23 thousand meters on my 2010 Mod D ERG and it runs great
I have done basic maintenance on this ERG but never had to replace anything except batteries
For the first 5 or 6 years it lived in my boat shop and now I'm keeping it in my home.
Still runs and looks good. Some people would have a problem because it has a PM 3 monitor, I'm fine with that because other than distance and splits I really don't care about the numbers.
I also row on the water in warmer weather so the ERG keeps me from going to hell during the winter
In my life, which is not notable for great investments, this machine is the best investment that I have ever made. Too bad the rest of my money was not used as wisely.
Hi I (16m,95kg) have been given a chance at racing in Henley this year. I have good ergs and great telemetry compared to my crew however I was beaten by a large distance in seat racing. I was told that I crash into front stop and don’t row with the crew. What should I do to change this so that I secure a seat at my crew at Henley ‘24?
I know you are supposed to kind of let the cable pull you back in, but are you supposed to use your feet a little bit or literally not at all?
Hi all, I have been trying different lifting programs but have not seem to found one that meets my goals. I feel like most rowing lift plans focus mainly on strength and not hypertrophy. I am in search of a 3 day split program that focuses on both hypertrophy and strength. Does anyone have any recommendations or resources I could look into?
So it’s basically the title. I was wondering if any other rowers had scoliosis and if so, how they deal with or if it affects them in anyway.
Hi there,
I just bought a Tunturi Fitrow 50 second hand as a cheap starting home rower, but I can’t seem to get any load settings to change. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be an issue with the electronics or something I could potentially fix?
I know I should’ve been a bit more vigilant, and perhaps it’s not the best quality, but oh well. Any advice would be appreciated!
my heart rate during steady on the erg is around 150
my heart rate during steady on a berg is around 130, as is the same in the single
any possible explanations?
Just recently my coach made me do a 15 minute consistent workout which I did at a 2min split pace. Then afterwards he made us do a surprise 2k which I finished with a time of 7:01. Would it be feasible to hit 6:50 on my next 2k?
Hi i’m 15f, rowing since September. I did a 30r20 just before Christmas and my split was 2:29.2, and i’m doing another one today. My 5k split is 2:25 at rate 24. How do you pace a 30r20 to not fly and die, and what sort of split do you think i should aim for?
Also, i have to do my test at home alone and idk how to explain it but its easier when you’re with other people doing it, so if anyone had any tips on staying focused and strong whilst doing it alone that would be appreciated
Thank you 🙏
I usually erg after I lift and I've just been doing 5000m every time so like 5 times per week. I feel like that might not be enough volume because my 2k best is 7:15 but I want to get it lower. I'm averaging like 2:05/500m on the 5k.
I guess I feel like I don't have the time to train for more than 30min per day, unless I just went to the gym to erg and didnt lift some days.
My mom has my whole family doing the Whole30 diet (for 40 days) and while it isn't terrible....my most recent erg test was a train wreck. I can't feel a difference on water but I've seen my splits on the erg get significantly slower, and my energy is sooo low. Will these problems disappear or improve if I just stick with it? Or should I talk with my mom about alternatives or me not doing the diet with the family? I've got another erg test and two races coming up while we're doing Whole30 and I'm nervous about my performance taking a hit.
Thank you!
Hi, has anyone used new Peleton Rowing + Waterrower? Is there any way to connect s4 commodule to the Peleton app, and is the app able to get usable data (like Asensei is for example) re: stroke rate? Or if you were going to use Peleton would it be best to just have waterrower app going on the side during the Peleton workout? Would adding SmartRow do anything helpful for connections or just be an added technology/complication?
Title. I recently received an (unpersonalized) email from Xeno, with an offer to join his “Elite Coaching Affiliate Program”. Essentially, he offers “rewards and benefits” to bring him customers. Pretty scummy if you ask me, paying people to push people towards his (in my opinion, fraudulent and overpriced) services. Reminds me of how MLM’s and Pyramid Schemes keep luring in new suckers.
I thought I’d share this in light of the other post calling Xeno a Charlitan from , because in my opinion also, he is. Parents and high school rowers, beware.

I’m a 15 year old from Peru, I stand at 6’1 and weigh 78kg. I aspire to row in uni and I think that goals are the most important part of the process. I turn 16 in late May and I plan to go sub 7 by then. My max watts are 700. I don’t really squat as I have a long femur, but I can leg press 320kg as a max. Deadlift 130kg and because I have a 6’6 wingspan, my bench is abismal compared to my other lifts (60kg). I want to cut down some body fat and drop my times in general. By what time could I achieve these goals and what erg workouts do you recommend?
