I dumped all my savings into an S&P 500 for the retirement. What would be the drawbacks of investing even $10 or $100 in the S&P 500 index? It will obviously be more difficult for those with less disposable income to do so, but in any case, the long-term advantages exceed the short-term drawbacks. What do you think? Is there any risk investing into an S&P 500 index fund?
Ok, I’m a newbie to the sp500 and I was told by someone who recently invested in sp500 that she gets a few hundred in interest in 1 month. I’m confused by what she said. Isn’t the sp500 now worth $5000 per share? To get 100 shares you need $500k investment. Do they pay monthly interest or quarterly dividend? She said she got paid monthly interest. I thought sp500 is a stock index on the market and pays dividend not interest. I thought the last dividend was around 1.5%. I didn’t know a stock pays interest based on the $ amount you invested. Please enlighten me. Thanks.
