My work currently sees me in £100 or less hotels quite a bit, across the country. We have a £20 or so evening meal allowance, which usually allows for something from the bar menu.
The bar menu usually has the following:
Fish and chips Burger and chips Hunter's Chicken Greek salad Caesar Salad - optional chicken
Now, here lies the problem: these options are either a) ludicrously stodgy like the burger or b) don't really have enough carbs or calories to stop you going to bed hungry.
At home, I don't have this problem. For example, I might make a stew or have bread on the side of something.
I could order a salad and chips but that's somehow depressing. I can't order both salad and burger because it would be over-budget.
Maybe this is just a broader problem with British cuisine?
