Tesla
Someone in a blue tesla sedan rear ended me when going southbound by will vill around 1:45pm today. After they hit me they floored it and took an illegal left turn on red and ran. Didn't get their plates.
Damage ain't bad and I'm fine. As far as I can tell it's only minor cosmetic and paint scratches, but the fact that they didn't bother to pull over and check and see if i was alright or exchange information really pisses me off.

A lot of time when i use Tesla maps (no premium subscription) the routes are not the best option vs when i use Apple/Google maps. I ma not talking about routing with live traffic, just the initial routes itself. Is the generic tesla map without premium subscription not as good as apple/google maps. (PS- I share the routes from Apple/google maps to Tesla but i was just curious about the how good/bad tesla maps was)

I know this has been asked in the past in this forum, but with the pending release of V12 to the masses, what are the reasons that FSD visualization would still not be consistent across all cars compared to the visualization with regular autopilot?
Certainly, I can understand that the "look" of the visualization on full FSD is more detailed, and in many cases I could understand that would be an incentive for someone to upgrade but that seems inconsistent with Tesla’s approach to safety. To me, having the full visualization is a safer feature to have available in many situations. While nothing should replace your eyes being the primary input for situational awareness, the fact that I can see all car and critical traffic movement around me in one glance makes me more aware to potential risks. I would appreciate getting everyone else’s input on this as I feel that Tesla should reconsider having multiple visualization types based on subscription:
Reasons to NOT offer symmetry between FSD visualizations:
-
It's cooler and people would pay more for the better visualization by buying/subscribing FSD
-
May offer too much information on the view for some users
-
May require higher compute (I don't believe this would be true however as I would think the computer would always be taking all input available to make safety decisions) and may burn slightly more energy
Reasons TO offer symmetry between FSD visualizations
-
Less code to manage across the fleet if you deprecate another view
-
Allows better general awareness to traffic/pedestrians
-
Encourages more to purchase FSD if they become aware of how much the car actually can see and is aware of which is not very evident in standard FSD visualization
-
Better awareness in blind spots especially on the highway when others might be doing things like 2 lane changes
-
On my car (23 X) a huge amount of the driver display is blank while driving, which is even further compounded with the lack of ability to adjust the view as was able to be done in older versions
As an aside, does anyone know if EAP allows for the “full” FSD visualization? That might make that package a bit more interesting when the other features are added back in for non-USS vehicles. Appreciate all your insights and I hope that someone in Tesla takes a look at this and considers full FSD visualizations for all users.

So I heard that they sent emails to every employee with different spacing to find out who was the leak. However how did the guy not notice that the email was sent to him directly instead of a mail merge or mass email send whatever the name is?

I had been searching for options to replace my wife's Elantra as it was getting pretty high mileage and long in the tooth, plus I wanted something safer. Unfortunately it got totaled by a hit and run drunk driver on Saturday night so my future plans got pushed up a lot faster.
We ended up buying a 2021 Pro S with the Gradient package, in Dusk Blue with the Lunar Grey interior. Ours came with the 3.1 software loaded. The price is REALLY good for what you get even though we don't qualify for the used credit, thanks depreciation!
The Good:
- The ride quality is pretty cushy, especially after lowering the tire pressure to 39psi.
- Interior quality is very nice and looks premium. Overall quality is about the same as my '23 Model 3 as far as fit and materials go. I love the uninterrupted sun roof with the retractable shade. The massaging seats are nice and do a pretty good job, it's not something we've ever had in a car before. Standard heated seats and steering wheel. The seats are very soft and cushy, pretty comfortable so far but the farthest we've driven it is an hour away.
- Efficiency is surprisingly good for an SUV, we were getting 3.2 miles per kWh on average doing 70mph with it fairly cold and rainy.
- Proximity unlock and tail gate gestures work well.
- Travel Assist works really well. It's not quite as confidence inspiring as AP with no audio indication that it's on or extra wheel resistance but it follows the road very well and I like that you can still add steering input while it's on. Also it stays on after changing lanes which is really nice. Oh and you can adjust how aggressively it speeds up once a gap opens up which is quite cool.
- Very powerful L2 charging but I dunno when we'll really get to use that.
- The turning radius is NUTS, it's so small and makes parking a breeze.
- The capacitive wheel is very nice for Travel Assist, wish I had this on my Tesla.
- Ambient lighting looks great.
The So So:
- Charging speeds are decent, it's winter and there's no preconditioning so the fastest we've gotten so far is 100kW from 25%. It's no charging monster but the curve is not bad at all, it should be better in the summer because it should be able to pull higher with the newer software. It would take about 10 mins more than my car on average per charging stop.
- The seats are comfy but I wish the front part of the seat cushion could be adjusted a bit more, like you can with the Tesla. Maybe I'm just missing something.
- Road and Interior noise is good. Slightly less road noise over rough roads but overall similar cabin quietness to my Model 3. It's better but not a HUGE difference. I noticed the same thing before in an Uber ride with an ID4. Wind noise when its breezy is a bit more than my car, mostly from the big mirrors and on the windshield.
- The heated steer wheel gets hot but it takes longer to warm up initially and likes to turn off every time you get out of the car (along with the passenger heated seat).
- Travel assist is kinda clunky with how you activate it and adjust things compared to AP. One tap down for ACC or two taps for AP is so fluid. The conventional style of CC where you turn it on and then activate it takes some getting used to, a lot more input to get where you want to go.
- Climate doesn't like working when you're plugged into a L1 and L2, I get the reason why but its kinda meh.
- A few small rattles in the cabin at times, it's a car it's to be expected. My Tesla has one in the seatbelt adjuster over rough roads but it's mostly the seat material rubbing together when it's cold.
- No dog mode, you can set the AC to run for 30 mins after leaving the car but there's nothing to indicate that on the screen. Unfortunate because it's got more room for the dog in the back versus my car with the dog cover in the rear seats.
- Travel assist likes to run up on people closer than I'd like even with a long follow distance, it would be nice if it slowed a bit earlier.
- The low speed sound is a bit loud but I kinda like it, it sounds like something from Blade Runner.
- The sound system is okay, slightly more bass than my RWD Model 3 but not nearly as crisp and clear.
- It's the RWD and the power is fine, nothing to write home about but it's not fast. My Model 3 feels like a rocket ship in comparison though.
- It has auto hold but it's not as well calibrated as Tesla. Even if you come to a full stop you have to press a bit harder on the brake to get it activate. Also you have to overcome it when reversing so getting into tight spaces takes a bit more concentration.
- I would like more regen in B mode.
- I REALLY miss the HD parking on my Tesla, the USS works well but it's hard to see curbs and the reversing mirror function I can't get to work.
The Not So Great:
- The UI... Woof. I will say it's not unusable by any stretch but it's not very intuitive in the infotainment. Tesla has it down, everything is where you would expect it to be and you never have to menu dive except when setting up the car for the first time. Thank god for CarPlay but it's still more clunky to go between maps, phone calls and navigation compared to the Tesla UI. It's not nearly as responsive as Tesla but it's not laggy on 3.1.
- The haptic buttons are not my favorite, I've gotten used to it already but it's especially annoying on the steering wheel and window/mirror controls. I got stuck with folded mirrors for a while because it's on the same panel as the mirror adjustment/heating and there's no way to touch what you want, it's on the knob. Kinda weird but I guess you get used to it.
- The APP is TERRIBLE. It has super limited functions already but it's basically unusable for remotely turning on the climate. Setting departures manually in the car is the way to go.
- I have a small creak/rattle in the rear hatch area, I think it's from the center LED bar. Apparently these have a TSB for this, it's common for it to bulge out a bit due to temperature expansion differences between it and the hatch. I'll have to track that down, it's not that bad though.
- There's still an open recall for the door handles, no issues on ours (knock on wood) but it's been a couple years with no solution from VW.
- No manual or auto preconditioning is a bit of a bummer.
- Public chargers are just not as good as Tesla, we all know this. All the ones around our area are working that I've seen but I'm not taking it on our trip to LA next week. It's a holiday weekend and I don't really wanna deal with potential lines on I-5 and I-99. Also DC charging in general is WAY more expensive than Superchargers at least here.
- The Key Fob... Oh my god the key fob. I gotta buy a cover because the panic button is terrible and I've set it off like 5x in the past 24 hours.
- No auto lock??? Why?? It can proximity unlock but you gotta use the fob to lock it. I can't seem to figure out the hand on the handle thing or if my model year can do it.
- The wireless phone charger is more like a wireless phone heater. It doesn't charge very fast and just roasts the phone. I never have this issue in my car.
Overall it's a great little SUV. I definitely prefer how my car drives but it's exactly what my wife wanted and it'll be a very nice addition. The car has 35k miles on it and we'll probably put 8k miles a year on it so it'll be covered by the powertrain warranty for quite a while. I would totally recommend one if you're in the market, just give yourself some time to get used to the controls.
I bought a brand-new Tesla model Y I waited a long time to do this purchase and eventually I excitedly made the move. Yes, it is high tech vehicle, and it presents any new owner with a steep learning curve. There are a million little details, that I’ve discovered, and I am still discovering, which I truly enjoy, thus I shan’t be mentioning what we all like.
However, I shall mention the “what I do not like”:
-
Regen braking: as sophisticated as this car is, there is no way to remove this feature? Something like 100%, 66%, 33% and 0% regen brake options, at least? I understand that the range changes, and I would be more than copacetic with a disclaimer, advising me of the newly reduced range, once I downgrade the regen braking. Not having the options is rubbing me the wrong way: it is akin with having Musk on the back seat, pulling strings as I drive. Not cool, mate, not cool at all! It gets even more bothersome, when I drive my wife’s ID4. That car “glides” once I remove my foot off the acceleration. Or even my previous Chevy Volt, that somehow still had some regen feature even without braking, as I was coasting. So please, someone change this gestapo stile of extreme regen forced on Tesla drivers.
-
The wheels!!! Why must the rim of the wheels be outside the tire? I know about the aerodynamics, dynamics of fluids, and all that jazz, but really for a few additional miles, must I drive around with choppy wheels? Not to ask the obvious question: all that research didn’t come with a smarter design than this almost roman war chariot?
-
Suspension: let us agree – it is horrible! Stock Tesla suspension is not coffee mug friendly. If you put your mug in the cup holders, make sure it is well closed, or coffee will be shaken and stirred to the point where it’ll project itself outside the cup, through the small sipping opening. I was expecting a suspension at least as good if not better than a Mercedes: it is a Tesla after all – the poor man’s Rolls Royce!
