We have so many figurative fires to put out here in Portland that we ALL experience every single day. Why is that not our most pressing social/political issue?

We pay more tax per head here in PDX than anywhere in the US besides NYC.

I think we can all agree that our local tax dollars/resources are not being used effectively.

No Egregious swearing, name calling, or slurs

Ask yourself whether the words you are using add value to the conversation at hand. Dehumanizing or insulting language is not allowed, nor are slurs. Posts targeting protected classes with discriminatory/inflammatory speech will be removed. Protected classes include: race, color, religion/creed, national origin/ancestry, sex (including gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), age, physical/mental disability, veteran status, genetic information, and citizenship.

Don't post personally identifying information

This includes telephone numbers, email addresses, physical mailing addresses (including PO boxes), and other identifying information for yourself or others. Posting private or identifying information is called "doxing" which will result in a permanent ban as per the sitewide Reddit rules and you will be reported to Reddit's admins. Office telephone numbers and other contact information for public officials posted on public facing websites are an exception.

Don't be a troll

It's fine to have a disagreement with another user, but please try to be civil in your reply. If it is obvious that your comment or post is trying to get somebody's goat, it will be removed. Conversely, don't feed the trolls.

Use r/AskPortland for questions about the Portland metro area

Posts about travel, visiting, or moving to Portland are better suited for r/AskPortland. Similarly, questions such as "Where can I find <item> or <service>?" also belong in r/AskPortland and may be removed at the discretion of the r/Portland mod team.

Use the weekly threads or a megathread when appropriate

r/Portland offers many weekly threads such as Classifieds, Events, Jobs, Casual Conversation, Rant, Rave, etc. For example, the classifieds is the correct place to post items that are free or for sale. On occasion, the r/Portland mod team may create a megathread to consolidate conversations and media related to an ongoing topic.

Don't post crime reports without a police case number

If you are the victim of a crime, witness a crime, or are looking for a missing person, then make a report to the proper authorities. Once you have obtained a police case number, you may make a post but the title must include the police case number. Comments offering or soliciting DMs regarding missing persons will be removed for reasons of safety. Crime related posts such as abandoned vehicles and other found items will be removed.

Don't post graphic, disturbing, or offensive content

What is considered graphic, disturbing, or offensive will vary from person to person.

Use your best judgment.

Worst case scenario, a user will report it and the r/Portland mod team will review and take action as necessary.

Posts must be directly related to Portland, Oregon, the greater region, or Oregon's public figures

Posts irrelevant to this topic will be removed. The greater region includes but is not limited to: Milwaukie, Happy Valley, Clackamas, Gladstone, Oregon City, Tualatin, Sherwood, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Gresham, Troutdale, and Vancouver, WA.

Don't kibitz

Bad faith comment/post or Non-local users offering unwelcome commentary on Portland and/or its residents will be permanently banned.

Don't make duplicate posts

If your post is similar to another recent post, it may be removed. If your post is removed, feel free to seek out the previous post and add additional links as a comment. If your post is removed and you immediately repost it, your action will be considered trolling or disingenuous engagement and the r/Portland mod team will respond accordingly.

In order to prevent flooding the main subreddit with off topic chatter we provide several reoccurring threads with links that can be found below or in the sidebar. Please keep posts relating to one (or more) of these in the appropriate weekly or monthly threads.
