Anyone have recommendations for roofers in Toronto?

morenewsat11

We used Avenue Roofing to replace roof and gutters. Professional and excellent customer service. Not inexpensive but they are going to be in business in the years to come in case there are any problems or warranty issues. Our gutter system was redesigned to handle the ever increasing rain volume.

But the new research, which has been peer-reviewed but not yet published in a journal, uses a state-of-the-art model to estimate when it could collapse, suggesting a shutdown could happen between 2037 and 2064.

This research suggests it’s more likely than not to collapse by 2050.

...

“Until a few years ago, we were discussing whether it would happen at all, as a kind of low-probability, high-impact risk,” Rahmstorf told CNN. “And now it looks a lot more likely than just a few years ago that this will happen. Now people are starting to close in on when it will happen.”

‘We have to be voting biblically’: the Courage Tour rallies Christians to get Trump in office

morenewsat11
commented

A very sad and frightening interpretation of the tenets of Christianity.

What followed in Wallnau’s morning sermon were a series of greatest hits of the Maga right: January 6 (not an insurrection), the 2020 election (marred by fraud) and Covid-19 (a Chinese bioweapon).

...

“Tolerance IS NOT A commandment,” read one poster, propped up in front of the pro-Trump Turning Point USA stall outside the tent.

Take care of my house while I'm on vacation

morenewsat11
commented

Perhaps you can have a neighbour take care of the garbage bins, get a hold mail service from Canada Post and buy one of those automated plant watering systems from Canadian Tire (not expensive - sounds fancier than it is). This is my plan when away on holiday.

Our neighbour has our mobile number if it looks like there's been a break-in or external property damage.

Globe editorial: Too many pedestrians and cyclists are killed by cars. There are solutions

morenewsat11
commented

As The Globe says, we got to stop calling these "accidents".

We call crashes “accidents,” even when the causes, from driver speed to road design, are deliberate choices.

Some of the solutions mentioned in the article:

  • reduce speed limits

  • road redesign

  • eliminate right turns on red

  • eliminate slip lanes

  • increase penalities

Air New Zealand becomes first major airline to scrap its 2030 climate goal

Not clear why Air New Zealand is also pulling out of the Science Based Targets Initiative. Is this like throwing in the towel until more fuel efficient aircraft are available?

Air New Zealand also confirmed its intention to immediately withdraw from the Science Based Targets Initiative. The SBTi network is a United Nations-backed climate action group that seeks to help companies reduce their emissions in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement.

American flags should be born in the USA now, too, Congress says

morenewsat11

Yeah, some flags made in China flags have a manufacturing defect and only hang upside down.

Congress has passed a proposal to require the federal government to purchase only American flags that have been completely manufactured in the U.S. The U.S. imports millions of American flags from overseas, mostly from China, and the sponsors of the proposal said it’s time for American flags to originate in the country they represent.

morenewsat11

This week, the U.S.-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon church with 17 million members worldwide, donated $2 million to Daily Bread Food Bank. It's the religious group's largest donation yet in Canada, according to a Daily Bread news release.

About one in 10 people in Toronto now rely on a food bank, according to Daily Bread.

Church elder David LaFrance said LDS members were shocked by that statistic, and parishioners from around North America contributed to the donation which is part of the church's global humanitarian and emergency relief efforts.
