The 2018 5th round Bucs pick isn’t a star by any stretch, but he has carved out a reliable role as a depth receiver. Catches passes from and wins a Super Bowl with Tom Brady in Tampa, only to go to the Chiefs and do the same with Mahomes last year (and potentially repeat).
How many players have won 2-3 Super Bowls having caught passes from 2 certified GOATs? Wes Welker didn’t win one with Peyton but he’s the only other receiver that comes to mind. Also reminds me of a similar career to Robert Horry’s in the NBA, but not to the same extent of course.
EDIT: A lot of commenters are getting hung up on my usage of GOAT. Tom Brady is the GOAT and I also don’t like the overuse of the term in sports discourse. But Mahomes is the only one who can overtake him or become a 1B, and is certainly the GOAT of this era, so I stand by my usage of the term.
Regardless, I think this makes Watson’s situation all the more unique, because when Mahomes’ career is over he may be the only receiver to say he won championships with the 2 greatest QBs of all time

Was there ever a point where they didn’t really care? Or where steroid use was super wide spread? Any notable roided up players?

Aside from the obvious advertising revenue, how does the NFL - and other sports leagues, for that matter- make money from the actual gambling? Isn’t the transaction simply between the bettor and the sports book? Do the leagues get a cut of the gambling?

Y’know that team that always has some buffoonery during their season. Crazy games, adversity and over unpredictable games. Which team is that?

I’d have to say players like Tim Brown or Fred Taylor deserve more recognition for things like their career stats than anything else. There’s a lot of players who have really good stats but didn’t get very much recognition for some reason. Who are some underrated players you can think of?

This year Lamar Jackson won the NFL MVP with the third highest PFF Grade among QBs in the League. Josh Allen was number one with a grade of 91.3, Dak Prescott was second with 90.8, Lamar came in third at 90.4. PFF grades are not a be-all-end-all metric, and like every metric it has it's flaws, but I think it's a good indicator of overall play by the QB. I was curious how past MVPs ranked amongst their peers in PFF Grade.
-
Over the last 10 seasons, the average PFF rank (among QBs only) for the league MVP is 2.3.
-
Four of the MVPs came in 3rd or worse by PFF Grade (Lamar 2023, Rodgers 2021, Lamar 2019, Cam 2015.
-
Three of the MVPs came in with the top rank among QBs (Rodgers 2020, Brady 2017, Rodgers 2014)
-
Top graded MVPs: Rodgers (94.5) in 2020, Rodgers (93.3) in 2014, Mahomes (93.2) in 2018
-
Bottom three graded MVPs: C.Newton (83.8) in 2015, Rodgers (89.6) in 2021, L.Jackson (90.4) in 2023

The NFL today is almost like a different game compared to the way it was played back in the day. The players were often bloody and muddy, the quarterbacks weren’t treated like fragile primadonnas, and the logos and lore were legendary. If you are nostalgic for the Gridiron greatness of the past, this sub is for you.
