Last night's slate was hot garbage. I should have just stacked the first game, but I got too cute and played too many Rockets. It's on to the next one.
I don't always post for weekend slates, but I am doing a video today so figured I'd post here as well. My video (hit up the link in my reddit profile) will have deeper analysis for the entire main slate, but this post should serve as a nice prep for tonight.
Let's first look at the top game environments and then I'll point you to some of my favorite plays. Just keep in mind you may need to adjust to injury news prior to lock.
Top NBA DFS Environments for 2/10
-
76ers vs. Wizards
-
Rockets vs. Hawks
-
Pacers vs. Knicks
-
Suns vs. Warriors
It's only a 7-game slate, but yes, all 4 of these games feel very stackable. If you'd stacked last night's top game environment, you may have won it all.
There is some injury news impacting these games - and there are still other quality plays - but these 4 games are the best spots of the night. The HOU/ATL game has my eye the most, but I'd let projections, injuries, and final starting lineups do the talking.
Best NBA DFS Picks for Saturday
-
PG: Tyrese Maxey ($9.2k)
-
SG: Amen Thompson ($6k)
-
SF: Donte DiVincenzo ($8.3k)
-
PF: Jabari Smith ($5.6k)
-
C: Jaren Jackson Jr. ($8.1k)
You're going to want a lot of Rockets tonight. FVV, Sengun, and Cam Whitemore are all out and Jabari Smith and Jae'Sean Tate are Q. Smith looks awesome if he's in, and Amen is a must with all of this usage off the floor.
Jalen Green will also look good, and you could take me into basically any Rockets guy just because they could be so short-handed. A date with the Hawks is just the icing on the cake.
Center is weak on this slate, so I like the idea of getting someone like JJJ or just punting the position. PF is what is loaded, so I will first look at Maxey (probable to play) versus the Wiz, but there are a bunch of guys to like here - Brunson, Trae, Spida, and more.
Brunson being out would open things up for the Knicks, and make Donte a priority. However, he's Q and keep in mind the new additions via trade could suit up for this one. All those Knicks that were pushing for 40 min nightly suddenly might not be as reliable as they were.
My Strategy for Tonight
Still some stuff to unfold, but this should be a good start. I'll dig deeper in my video as to which plays I like, but this is a rather stud-less slate so I don't see a major need to force Spida, KD and the like in my lineups.
That said, you really can just establish your core and then see what your favorite lineup optimizer spits out. Make any necessary tweaks from there.
If you're just doing a SE lineup, hopefully my insight can lead you down a good path (although lineup tools are still going to help you shape out the original squad, too).

What’s up Wiz fam. I’m going to see the Wizards play the Sixers tonight. This is my first ever NBA game. How early should I get there if I wanna watch the team shoot around? Can I walk closer to the court before the game starts or do I need to stay in my section? I’m also gonna be copping some merch; is that something to do before or after the game? Any food recommendations in the area/stadium would be great. Super stoked to see the young team ball out after last nights match. Fingers crossed we can hit the Wizards Bed against the Embiidless Sixers.
Bill Simmons is a sportswriter, television personality, and podcaster. After many successful years at ESPN as a writer, tv host, and creator (of Grantland & 30 for 30), he signed a lucrative deal to partner with HBO. He currently hosts "The Bill Simmons Podcast", and founded TheRinger.com and Ringer Podcast Network in 2016
In his February 2023 appearance on the "How I Built This" podcast, Bill said that he had two years left on his Spotify deal. Given that The Ringer deal was announced by Spotify in February 2020, a five-year contract makes plenty of sense, leaving potentially early 2025 as the expiration date on Bill's current contract.
In an article from November 2022 () Deadline reported that Ryen had re-upped with The Ringer in a "long-term deal" and that the new deal "will see him continue to host his podcast and remain on other shows across the Bill Simmons-founded company including Simmons’ own podcast."
Given that the deal includes going on Bill's podcast - as we obviously see with the NBA Sundays - it would seemingly have been difficult for The Ringer to guarantee this for longer than Bill's contract ran. Plus, "long-term" in the media world may well mean tacking on another 30 months or so to his contract. And, Ryen joined The Ringer in summer 2019, which could mean that his original deal was coming up perhaps at the end of 2022. Finally, I suspect it would be smart by Ryen to get his contract lined up with Bill's.
So putting that all together, may this be the last season - either because Bill or Russillo will leave? I think Russillo's tenure with The Ringer has been a major success, given that his podcast is now one of the top pods in sports, and I think some of that has to do with BS Pod fans hearing him on Bill's pod and checking out his own. However, does Ryen want to keep doing that in the future? He's giving up a show every week during the best stretch of the NBA season, so it may make more sense in the future to do his typical 3 shows/week schedule without doing Bill's pod.
Plus, just like Russillo got lots of new fans from the BS Pod, should Russillo perhaps go to Barstool next - clearly a lot of people enjoy him with the PMT guys - and try to keep the audience he attained from Bill while getting a new audience from the Barstool listeners? Or should he try to get back into TV (Fox?) Or do fewer pods and focus on screenwriting? I'm curious what everyone else thinks.
My very unscientific comparison of the population for the various G-League team host cities and their NBA team host city, stemming from comments comparing Sioux Falls and Miami.

Hi everyone! My friend and I have an NBA podcast that’s very unserious and we’re hoping to do one soon on the most dramatic moments from this season so far! We’d love if anyone could provide some input in case we missed some gems!
Some of our favorites so far:
-
Giannis game ball
-
PJ Tucker
-
LeGM asked about trade machine
-
James Harden saying he is the system
-
Draymond saying he’d quit basketball
There is much said about Trae Young by many people, but undeniably through his first six seasons he has been one of the most productive players in the history of the NBA, along with his fellow draft-mate Luka Doncic.
He is also actively making NBA history, with a chance to surpass Russell Westbrook and LeBron James in 30+ PTS/10+ AST to claim third all time in that statistic only behind Oscar Robertson and James Harden. Earlier this season he also tied Oscar for the most consecutive 30+ PTS/10+ AST games in league history with 7 straight.
For his efforts over the last six years, which includes 3 straight playoff appearances, Young has been rewarded with three all-star selections and one third team all-NBA nod.

Jrue has been lights out from the corners this season. 60.9% from the right corner, 61.3% from the left corner. He's shooting a career-high 42.8% from 3 overall, which leads the team and puts him at 11th-best in the league (min. 200 attempts).
I think his contributions so far this season have been a bit overlooked. At a glance many people just see he's averaging the least points out of our starting 5 (13.3ppg) and say he's not playing good, disregarding all the good he's done for us so far. As a new addition he's obviously been overshadowed by Kristaps who has been extremely impactful but don't get it twisted, Jrue is putting in work too.
He is currently leading the team in:
-
Overall 3pt percentage (42.8%)
-
Catch and shoot 3pt percentage (47.3%)
-
Left, right, and overall corner 3pt percentage (61.3%/60.9%/61.1%)
-
Charges drawn (6, tied with Derrick White)
-
Deflections (109, also tied with Derrick White)
And is setting career highs/bests in:
-
3pt percentage (42.8%)
-
FT percentage (85.9%)
-
Offensive, defensive and total rebounds per game (1.4/4.6/6.0)
-
Turnovers per game (career low 1.9 TPG)
-
Personal fouls per game (career low 1.6 PF)
-
Defensive BPM (0.9, tied with 2011-2012)
-
Blocks per 36 (tied with 3 other seasons)
-
+ a few more similar stats (reb%, rebs/100, blks/100, etc.)
Having a very underrated season IMO!
