Kristaps Porzingis
On paper it appeared they had a sequel to the Nash-Dirk combo. Besides injuries and fit issues on Porzingis and Rick Carlisle’s part, why did the Mavericks jettison the 7’1 Latvian only two-and-a-half years after trading for him?
This man has never been this wide open, and he was an elite shooter last year in Washington.
He's taken 38 shots and is 60% from 2 and 62% from 3.
Everyone is talking about the Giannis/Dame PnR, but I believe the Tatum/Porzingis PnR is going to be as deadly because of their size and shooting combination.
So far this season he is averaging a career high 22.8 PPG on a career best 62% TS. Furthermore, in 2023 he’s averaging 25 PPG on 70% TS. He’s also been an elite rim protector this season. ()
Porzingis has also been an elite post up scorer this season which is an improvement because it used to be considered a weaker part of his game. ()
Probably the biggest factor in his re-emergence has been his health. He’s played in 50 out of his teams 58 total games.
On Buddy Hield’s contest of Jaylen Brown:
Comment:On replay review, the coach's challenge of the shooting foul called on Hield (IND) was deemed successful. The video clearly shows that Hield reaches forward and makes contact with the ball from behind Brown (BOS). While in contact with the ball, Hield also makes minimal contact with Brown's head, and on review that contact was correctly deemed incidental. As the rulebook makes clear, the mere fact that contact occurs does not necessarily constitute a foul; contact which is incidental to an effort by a player to defend an opponent, reach a loose ball, or perform normal defensive or offensive movements is not considered illegal. Play resumed with IND possession, since Nesmith (IND) had imminent possession at the point of interruption.
On Porzingis’ “foul” that led to the game winning free throws:
Comment:Porzingis (BOS) is above the ball and legally contests Mathurin's (IND) shot attempt, with some incidental arm contact occurring concurrent with the block. Referees conducted a replay review to determine if the foul was called with no time remaining on the clock (00:00), and determined it was called before the expiration of time. The clock was reset with 0.6 remaining on the clock. The foul itself was not a reviewable matter under this replay trigger.
