I say this as an avid Star Wars fan. Star Wars should have died a long time ago. It was made as a passion project by a visionary director, but with every new book, movie, video game, and tv show the series gets more and more bloated. Anyone looking to get into Star Wars lore is fighting an insane uphill battle that never really ends. It doesn't neccesarily help that most of it considered non-canon due to Disney striking it from the record books. Now you have 2 timelines to make sense of, and one that's going to continue growing out of control.

I feel like we have enough star wars content to last us a lifetime. We don't need anymore movies or tv shows. Every single character in your universe doesn't need some form of prequel movie or series.

Everything related to Jurassic Park and the franchise. We talk about books, toys, of course the films, and more. Fan ran.
It could be set in the first trilogy, mid or JW. Would this be a good idea going forward? Do you think we get anymore movies? Or is the franchise is what it is now? Just curious to hear your thoughts, or if anyone knows what the future holds for our beloved Dinos.

There, I said it.
A lot of my friends and people have been raving about Star Wars especially due to its resurgence with the sequels, Jedi Fallen Order, The Mandalorian, and the final season of the Clone Wars. But in reality? The universe is just boring. There are 2 main sides in this world, Jedi and Sith. There is literally no merit to supporting the Sith. These guys were literally just made to be evil so you are forced into rooting for the Jedi, but there are literally no Jedi you want to root for. None of the Jedi are interesting in any way. No one in Star Wars is interesting in anyway. Side Characters are near nonexistent and the ones that exist have little to no story.
The Force is also the most uninteresting power I have ever seen in Media. At least the Marvel franchise has variety. The only variety in the Force I have seen is what object they throw, pull, or lift with the occasional lightning. And they never do anything cool with it. (I haven't watched much of the clone wars series, so there may be things I miss). The only semi interesting force moves we have seen is the mind control and the force illusions. Why cant they do more than that? We have seen that a jedi can control objects with high precision. So why cant a jedi (or sith) use the force with light sabers or something. I want to see a jedi do something cool for once. The coolest thing I've seen a jedi do so far has either been Yoda doing a barrel roll in a fight or the final Obiwan vs Darth Maul fight in the Clone Wars.
The stories are also cookie cutter "I'm a jedi and I need to stop the sith because I am a jedi" and even though the jedi should be extinct and the sith should have control of the galaxy the jedi has very little trouble accomplishing anything. The resistance is also somehow equally armed and able to operate with no complications even though they are supposed to be resisting and unstoppable force.
The cringiest thing I have seen in a while goes to "Gray Jedi". I'm not sure if it's canon or not, but I have been seeing a lot of talk about gray jedi and really? These are people who are "both light and dark" like a "perfect balance" of the force. Gray Jedi literally sound like OC bait, and I can bet money that 85% of Star Wars OCs are gray jedi.
Besides force users..... what is there to talk about again? Storm troopers always miss making them only used for comic relief or showing the audience how strong these Jedi are. Resistance fighters are only there to show how good the Jedi is by saving them with the Force. I cant think of any 3rd party that has any effect on the galaxy. Han Solo was cool because he was one of few characters to show that even without the force you can have an impact. But there really isn't a world outside of the people who use the force. (I imagine the mandalorian is sort've covering that).
Star Wars literally feels like it should be a power rangers show. The writing is simple for kids to understand, the powers are not complicated and it is incredibly black and white for evil and good. And as a result of that, I find the universe underdeveloped > uninteresting > boring > bad.
If anyone has any counter arguments to bring up feel free. Maybe I have missed something or maybe my memory is bad.
Edit: I should mention I'm not familiar with the specifics of EU, and I am referring to all movies. Not just the new Disney trilogy. I think the OT was a masterpiece for it's time, but it still sort of pales in comparison to other stories.

Saltier Than Crait is a place for Star Wars fans to engage in conversations about the current state of the franchise.
When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, they inherited three major IPs: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Willow.
Star Wars fell apart when it quickly became clear there was no game plan. Fans knew right away, but critics picked up on it eventually. Each new release had a significant drop, culminating in a and a critical meltdown for . It still feels like they are desperately throwing everything against a wall to see what sticks, as a dozen directors are ambiguously attached to projects that are allegedly years away from being made.
Willow was so critically and commercially abhorred that the and can no longer be found online.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is projected to be a , as it cost $300m and only made $60m in its debut weekend in the US. Disney miscalculated the film so badly that it premiered at Cannes (in an attempt to replicate Top Gun: Maverick's early hype) and its . Following this news, it's been called into question whether director James Mangold will lose his announced Star Wars project, as investors might be less likely to finance it following Indiana Jones' disappointment. This has happened multiple times before with directors losing Star Wars movies, following releases that are critically and financially disappointments. From Josh Trank's Fan4stic to Benioff and Weiss' final season of Game of Thrones to Colin Trevorrow's Book of Henry to Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984... "It's like poetry. It rhymes."
Even aside from whether the movies are good, how has this announcement strategy not changed? How is there still no change in Lucasfilm leadership? How is Kathleen Kennedy still in charge?
The originals were great for their time but it's time to remake them with prequel actors returning and better Special effects. Line up continuity and fix plot holes, remove Harrison Ford with someone who actually wants to be there.

I loved Star Wars and so did my cousin. But over the last decade I’ve seen a rushed and messy effort to keep the franchise going. To be honest it isn’t terrible, but it’s losing the high standard it once upheld. Maybe that’s true for all movie franchises.
I personally liked most of the cartoons and shit. But at some point you run out of spice. I think we got a few good years left, but I seriously don’t want the quality to slip any more. Maybe something new will come out, but I doubt the time slot will allow too many more bangers. But I’ll still enjoy our community and the last few good years we got before a new era comes
Edit: Holy shit, I knew I was going to start something, but damn. This has been a very entertaining discussion. Thank you to those who awarded me. And thank you to the community that can still keep a good convo about our favorite Intergalactic film. Thanks and may the force be with you.
Edit: Yeah, I want to explore the whole Star Wars universe as well. I really liked Star Wars: Squadrons and Battle Front video games. And the clones wars was damn good. Star Wars just needs to keep going with the times. Star Wars is FUN and I want to enjoy all the cool new shows, games, and other brainstorm Disney can offer me. Maybe Star Wars won’t end so soon, but we’ll slowly find new intergalactic series to enjoy.

I love Star Wars. Love the lore mainly but overall it's something I've grown up with my entire life. In just a few short years I have watched Disney destroy the lore and my expectations for anything good for Star Wars. My three main points:
-
Story. It is apparent that whomever is in charge of Star Wars does not care about it's characters or the direction of the series. Blatant destruction of story arks in Episode 8, literally rehashing a new hope for episode 7, and bringing back popular characters just to generate interest because their boring story can't carry weight. My point - what is the new trilogy even about: Rey? Her parents were "no one". Saving the Galaxy? We haven't even seen the new republic from episode 6. There's no stakes. The new characters? Finn and his ridiculous obsession with Rey for no reason, and the love story from no where with no build up. It's BS.
-
The games. I like video games but the recent games from Disney are obvious cash grabs with no merit. The literal exact same game from 2005 had more content in it. Screw the graphics. Give me actual good game play.
-
No direction. From all the stories, games, and merch Disney is pushing there is no rhyme or reason, no direction for where the franchise is going. I don't know what to expect or what to be excited about. The answer is nothing.
My point: Disney has gutted and made hollow something I love. Please change my mind. Please Reddit, you're my only hope!

I know this is reddit and will get immediately downvoted but for a second think about it and if you have your own ideas as well I'd love to hear them. I spent sometime thinking about how bring star wars back to what it felt like when I heard Episode 1 was coming out and for a short time Episode 7, then the Mandalorian. Feel free to add your own options but I've been thinking about the possible options out there. Some of them are obviously terrible choices, others are safe bets, and others are who knows what will happen. The Star Wars Franchise clearly is coming to a point where there needs to be a MAJOR executive decision. You first had the animated series being done, sequel saga, also while also starting their own side movies like rogue one/solo, then you had the era of TV.
Right now Star Wars is in serious need of a clear vision/path forward. The options I see and are actually in the realm of possibility are:
-
Let George take it back over and run with his extended universe plans/just let him be George but with guard rails (why I think episode 5/6 were so good)
-
Keep Kathleen Kennedy onboard and let he be the scape goat for all things bad but also have no coherent direction but keeps pumping out content
-
Let Filoni become the head of Star Wars but he won't ever get out of his head his fascination with the prequels and animated series in general, he is habitually stuck with a set of characters and general similar plot lines
-
Let Favreau take over and act like a Kevin Feige and really be the person who pieces everything together (what Kathleen should be doing) and build a true connected universe almost like phases (what kevin did with marvel)
-
Bring in a new director with a pedigree, who would of thought what Christopher Nolan did with Batman could be done (Zack Snyder pitched, and he is controversial but his Netflix movies are looking really cool)
-
Find a James Gunn type show runner and just reset the whole damn things, actors and all
-
Start in a new era, just stop for the next 10-15 years in this era and move to the high republic, or back with sith v jedi, etc. Just start a whole new world kind of like what they have done and continue to keep doing in the video game realm
When you look at how much turmoil the average fan doesn't know about, like how Solo was handed over to Ron Howard to re-do a lot of it, how our Game of Thrones friends had a trilogy planned, how after solo didn't do as well they basically stopped all work on spin offs even though solo didn't do horrible. Then Taika Waititi had a movie planned as well. I think even Kevin Feige had a movie planned too. I can't imagine what its like working over there but it has to be insane!
Edit: I want to make something clear I am just offering up options, the reason I said I’d love to hear you opinions to expand that list. I am not saying any decision is the best or mine are the only ones. The amount of downvotes is insane.
I am just trying to have a conversation but this is Reddit where users selectively read and think I’m saying things like George has to return….
All I am saying is how would you correct what I think is the downward spiral of Star Wars since Disney took it over.
