Wow (Kate Bush song)

"Wow" is a song by English singer Kate Bush. Originally released on her second album Lionheart in 1978, it was issued as the album's second single in March 1979. It was a top 20 hit in the UK.

"'Wow' is about the music business," she told her KBC fan club magazine in 1979. "Not just rock music but show business in general. It was sparked off when I sat down to try to write a Pink Floyd song – something spacey."

The lyrics include a reference to Vaseline.

Overview

The single version is an edited version of "Wow", although it is not labelled as such on most editions. On all European "Wow" singles, the first 12 seconds of synthesiser chords have been removed. Brazil and Canada used the full-length LP version. The Canadian single featured a unique sleeve and was pressed on transparent yellow vinyl. The song was a moderate hit on Canada's Adult Contemporary singles chart in RPM Magazine.

The song was released in the UK on 9 March 1979 and peaked at number 14 in the UK Singles Chart, remaining on the chart for ten weeks. This was an improvement on Bush's previous single, "Hammer Horror" which had stalled at No.44 a few months earlier. A video was filmed for the release, featuring Bush performing the song in a darkened studio, and then backed by spotlights during the chorus. She also made a guest appearance on the TV Special ABBA in Switzerland, where she performed this song in April 1979. Also around the time of this release, Bush embarked on her first of only two live concert tour. Due to this and the release of the single, Bush's second album Lionheart saw a resurgence of interest in the UK albums chart, by making a re-entry into the top twenty for several weeks. The song became a hit in other countries such as Ireland where it reached No.17. "Wow" was a target for comedian Faith Brown who parodied it on her show. In 2012 The Guardian called "Wow" the "undisputed highlight" of the Lionheart album.

Wow FM

Wow FM (100.7 FM, callsign "2WOW") is a community radio station based in St Marys in Sydney. The station broadcasts to part of Western Sydney, mainly centered on the City of Penrith. Wow FM is a volunteer run organisation and is funded through listener support, grants and limited commercial sponsorship.

Programming

The station's current programs cover a range of music styles including adult contemporary, rock and roll, country, multicultural and Christian programming, although for vast parts of the day, relays satellite programming from the Community Radio Network (CRN). Wow FM also broadcasts programs that are presented by special interest groups or in languages other than English.

History

In June 2001, "Way Out West (WOW) FM" beat one other radio stations for a permanent license from the Australian Broadcasting Authority. This was due to the perceived need for multicultural programs in the Penrith area, which WOW FM devoted a large proportion of their airtime, despite the fact, only 10% of Penrith LGA residents come from a non-English speaking background.

Romans (documentary)

Romans is a documentary created by Tony Robinson about the Roman Empire. It was first broadcast on Channel 4 on 20 September 2003.

This documentary is 3 hours in length, consists of 4 episodes and makes extensive use of research. The first two episodes portrays the life of the Dictator Julius Caesar while the remaining are portraits of Emperor Caligula and Emperor Nero. Tony Robinson is portraying Caligula in a different perspective, than what is normally associated with the "mad emperor", by using various sources that examines his childhood in order to portray him in a better light. The last episode portrays emperor Nero.

Romans 2

Romans 2 is the second chapter of the Epistle to the Romans in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It is authored by Paul of Tarsus, but written by an amanuensis, Tertius, while Paul was in Corinth, in winter of AD 57-58. Romans 12:20 is a short film directed by the Shammasian Brothers and written by Geoff Thompson. It was released in 2008.

Plot

The film stars Craig Conway as 'Malky', a nightclub doorman with a violent character. However, during the course of the film Malky finds himself attending confession, but rather than for past crimes, he seeks redemption for an act he is yet to commit.
