How prosperous your nation is, how many powerful warriors it boasts, and how heroic and strong its king is. These are the criteria that factor into the system known as the Ranking of Kings.
The main character, Bojji, was born the first prince of the kingdom ruled by King Bossu, who is ranked number seven.
But Bojji was born unable to hear and is so powerless that he can’t even swing a sword. In consequence, his own retainers and the public, look down upon him as completely unfit to be king.
It is then that Bojji finds his first friend, Kage, and Bojji’s life takes a dramatic turn…
Ranking of Kings is a fairy tale with all the familiar elements including castle, prince, magic, serpents, evil stepmother and more. Yet nothing is quite as it seems. The characters are complex, interesting and grow. Few main characters have started out as disadvantaged as Bojji. Nevertheless, the show is not about sensitizing the viewer to Bojji's plight. That would insult Bojji who never once demands equal treatment. Instead, he sets out to earn a future with loyalty, friendship and perseverance. This is a show worth watching.

No-Doubt Classic
After 12 episodes - I've been watching anime for more than 20 years. This is an apex, peak piece of work. Plot twists abound. Character building is among the best I've ever seen and to me all the supporting characters are fleshed out. The art is very expressive. The backgrounds and settings are beautiful. It can be very funny but expect real emotional heft. It makes me root for multiple characters not just the MC. For me this is among the top anime ever produced and I love it.

Unique style and solid story, original all around
Definitely worth a watch, just an original unique anime much unlike the hordes of shows coming out these days that all stylistically and plot-wise fit the same mold
