The home of the Buffalo Bills on reddit. Circling the wagons since 2009.
Hi all, new fan from the UK (London specifically), I decided to watch one of the NFL games yesterday (the Raiders vs Chiefs one) since there weren't any other sports events on at Christmas. I've always had an interest in the NFL due to some similarities with Rugby and also how technical it is despite looking very chaotic on the surface, but I guess watching some of the game yesterday made me a proper fan.
I read up briefly on some of the teams I found interesting and made a brief list of potential teams to support; at the end only the three New York teams were left. I decided to pick the Bills due to the name/logo standing out, as well as reading about the fans helping a lot with charitable causes in the past, which is always heartwarming (another reason was discovering that the Bills are the only actual New York team, and that the "New York" Jets and Giants actually play in New Jersey, which just sounds like false advertising to me lol).
I'm obviously no expert regarding the rules/positions/tactics of the NFL (I know enough to follow a match for the most part), and I probably won't be able to watch many games because of the time differences involved, but I look forward to supporting the Bills nonetheless.

I'm not referring to his stats, but rather his size. Ben was a big man who could shake off tackles in the pocket. It seems that the current trend (and for the foreseeable future) is for smaller, quicker, more mobile quarterbacks.

I’m not a huge Swift fan by any means (I don’t always choose to listen to her music but I like it when it’s on), but I like when the NFL talks about her and shows her during games. It’s a nice break from the constant football, football, football.
I get it, it’s a marketing thing, both for her and for the league. But I don’t understand why so many people hate when she shows up on their screens. She’s only there for a few seconds at most during the game, and you can scroll past her on social media. Not everything in the NFL has to be literally about football, you know.

Am I the only one that has noticed that tackling has become awful. For many reasons. Injuries, trying to cause turnovers, penalties, analytics, etc…
To me though, it feels like each season we get closer to flag football. Can you imagine Romanowskie or Atwater these days. Or Howie Long (sorry for the Raiders mention, but my point).
I guess it comes down to this. Is the game trending more interesting or more boring, keeping in mind it’s always been a contact sport?
From Steve Young (‘93-‘01) to Kurt Warner (‘02-‘03) to Steve Young again (‘04-‘10), the career regular season passer rating title has bounced around.
Rodgers got it at the end of 2010, held it for 9 years, then Mahomes / Watson both passed 1,500 career pass attempts to be eligible for the stat and moved to # 1 and # 2.
Even if it’s short this time, it’s nice for a former Packers QB to be back on top.
Top 5 at the end of last year:
(1) Patrick Mahomes - 105.7
(2) Aaron Rodgers - 103.6
(3) Deshaun Watson - 102.3
(4) Joe Burrow - 100.4
(5) Russell Wilson - 100.2
New Leaders after yesterday:
(1) Aaron Rodgers - 103.6
(2) Patrick Mahomes - 103.4
(3) Deshaun Watson - 100.8
(4) Russell Wilson - 100.0
(5) (Tied) Drew Brees / Dak Prescott - 98.7
At the beginning of the season, the map is divided into 32 regions, each controlled by a team in the NFL. When a team defeats another team, if the defeated team controls any land, that land is taken by the winner.
Territory Changes
The 49ers lost 6 territories to the Ravens
The Bengals lost 2 territories to the Steelers
The Saints lost 8 territories to the Rams
Leaderboard
TEAM | # OF TERRITORIES |
---|---|
Dolphins | 16 |
Rams | 8 |
Ravens | 6 |
Steelers | 2 |
The 49ers have held the most territory this season (63).
The Bears, Panthers, Patriots, Titans, and Vikings are tied for least territory held (1).
To get these scores, I gave each team a point for each territory they held per week (so if a team held 4 territories for 5 weeks, they would get 20 points)
Upcoming Battles
The Rams are battling the Giants
The Steelers are battling the Seahawks
The Dolphins and the Ravens are fighting for the majority of the country

Think about it. If you are rich you can send your kids to best youth camps or hire best coaches for your area.
Does your local idiot coach even know what he's doing?
