Soft Cell - Non - Stop Erotic Cabaret 1981 ( Deluxe Edition 2018)

Soft Cell are an English synthesizer duo, consisting of Marc Almond (vocals) and David Ball (keyboards), who came to prominence in the early 1980s. Soft Cell was founded in 1977 by Almond

and Ball, who met as art students at Leeds Polytechnic. Best known for their smash 1981 cover of Gloria Jones' "Tainted Love," which turned the pop-soul tune into a haunting electronic torch song, synth pop duo Soft Cell formed in England in the late '70s. Also remembered as the first project of singer/songwriter Marc Almond, he and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dave Ball released four U.K. Top 20 albums together between 1981 and 1984 before pursuing separate music careers.

Their lyrics often focus on love and romance as well as the darker side of life, with subjects such as the

nightlife, kinky sex, transvestism, drugs and murder.
They had a huge world-wide hit in 1981 with a cover version of "Tainted Love," a northern soul classic originally sung by Gloria Jones (the wife of Marc Bolan), that they followed up with more charting singles and one of the first remix Albums "Non-Stop Ecstatic Dancing." Their self-penned non-album single "Torch," missed the No.1 spot of the UK charts by a hairbreadth.

Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret reached the Top Five of the album charts in the U.K. and Canada. "Tainted

Love" peaked at number eight on the Hot 100 when it was released in the U.S. in early 1982, and spent over 40 weeks on the chart. Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret also offered the singles "Bedsitter" and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye," which were Top Five hits in the U.K.

In the U.S., Soft Cell, the British duo of singer Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball, was a

classic one-hit wonder, that hit being the remake of Gloria Jones' "Tainted Love," which dominated dance clubs and eventually peaked in the pop Top Ten with its synth-pop sound and Almond's plaintive vocal in 1981-1982. In the U.K., the group not only had a longer career, but also influenced a raft of similar performers.

Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, originally released in Britain in the fall of 1981, contained both the band's

first hit and its follow-up, "Bedsitter," its title referring to what in America would be called a studio apartment. (A third U.K. Top Five hit, "Say Hello Wave Goodbye," emerged from the LP.) At full album length, lyricist Almond's primary preoccupation, only suggested in "Tainted Love," was spelled out; this was a theme album about aberrant sexuality, a tour of a red-light district.

"The Art Of Falling Apart'," produced with Mike Thorne and the then new CMI Fairlight at hand with

endless efforts by Dave Ball aiming at perfection followed in 1982. It spawned two singles chosen against the will of the record companies; "Where The Heart Is," and "Numbers," the first on youthful frustration, the later about frequently changing sexual partners and neither sold too well.

The commercial pressure finally collided with their artistic ambitions which led to solo and side

projects and two farewell shows in January 1984 even before "This Last Night In Sodom," was released. They reunited in the early 2000's and toured with a 4th studio album "Cruelty Without Beauty," following in 2002. Once again they reunited for a final well documented "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye," live show in 2018 and the recording of a new single. Their new studio album "*Happiness Not Included," was released in spring of 2022.

Alien Sex Fiend: 6 Albums + The Singles 1983 - 1995

Alien Sex Fiend are an English gothic rock band, theatrical, humorous, and sonically innovative

London band acknowledged as goth pioneers, led by eccentric frontman Nik Fiend.  formed in 1982. The current lineup of the band consists of Nik Fiend and Mrs Fiend. Five of the group's albums and 12 of their singles reached top 20 positions in the UK indie charts in the period up to 1987.

One of the earliest groups to be labeled goth rock, Alien Sex Fiend are among the genre's most

theatrical acts. They're also one of its most humorous, preferring a campy B-movie aesthetic to the dourness or morbidity of many of their peers.
Heavily influenced by the Cramps, Alice Cooper, glam rock, punk, and psychedelia, the group's performances are ghoulish spectacles, and their boundlessly creative music combines heavy electronic beats and noisy guitars with warped, dubby effects and samples.

Alien Sex Fiend were formed by Nicholas Wade (Nik Fiend), Christine Wade (Mrs Fiend), David

James (Yaxi Highrizer) and Johnny Freshwater (Johnny Ha-Ha) in late 1982 at the Batcave club in London (where Nik worked). The band became known in the gothic scene for its dark, electronic industrial-leaning sound, heavy samples, loops, dub remixes and manic vocals. Nik Wade had previously been a member of the Alice Cooper-influenced bands the Earwigs and Mr & Mrs Demeanour, and later the punk band Demon Preacher (later known as the Demons).

The group was highly prolific throughout the '80s, releasing fan-favorite full-lengths such as Acid Bath (1984) and "It" the Album (1986), in addition to numerous remix-filled singles and EPs, showcasing the

group's penchant for experimentation. ASF incorporated several electronic dance music styles into their sound before other goth and industrial acts did; the 1989 single "Haunted House" lived up to its name, while the group embraced techno and trance on '90s releases such as Inferno (The Odyssey Continues) (1994). In the 21st century, albums such as Information Overload (2004) and Possessed (2018) have even worked in traces of dancehall and drum'n'bass.

The band also became popular in Japan, and in 1985, they released a live album recorded there, Liquid

Head in Tokyo. Freshwater left later in 1985, and the band continued as a trio, supporting Alice Cooper on his "The Nightmare Returns" tour in 1986 and releasing "It" the Album that October. The band was reduced to a duo of the Wades when James left following the release of 1987's Here Cum Germs.

Alien Sex Fiend has been described as gothic rock, deathrock and industrial. Glenn Danzig has cited the

group's sonorous and echoing sounds as having influenced the mixing for several of the recordings for his group Samhain. Following numerous compilations and live releases, including the 1999 retrospective Fiend at the Controls, Vols. 1-2, ASF returned with 2004's Information Overload, an adventurous update of the group's sound. Para-Abnormal, a CD of remixes and rarities, followed in 2006. The group's next full-length was delayed due to deaths in the family and other personal issues, but ASF re-emerged with Death Trip in 2010.

In 2015, Cherry Red released Classic Albums and BBC Sessions Collection, the first of two

comprehensive box sets of the band's early material. These were followed by the generous triple-CD package Fiendology in 2017. Possessed, Alien Sex Fiend's first studio album in eight years, appeared in 2018.

Fink published a book in 2000, Once Upon a Fiend, recalling his experiences in the band. He later

drummed for Blackpool bands United States of Mind and Dog Food before joining Uncle Fester in 1999, who changed their name to UFX in 2006. Fink currently serves as frontman of Vince Ripper and the Rodent Show, a duo also featuring Vince "Ripper" Cornwall. They perform Alien Sex Fiend and the Cramps material, and have released two albums, It's Fun to Be a Monster and Boneyard a Go Go!!!.

Another Planet is a studio album by the English gothic rock band Alien Sex Fiend. It was released in

1988 by Anagram Records. Trouser Press qualified the album as "extremely entertaining". The Chicago Tribune called it "an LP of strange, well-done dance-floor fare that relies as much on biting, astringent guitar and murderous drumming as on synth-generated thumps and thweeps."

ALIEN SEX FIEND - THE SINGLES 1983 - 1995  (1995)

It's a sufficient overview of music that helped to define the goth rock genre, even if their on-the-edge

outrage -- "I walk the line between good and evil" (from "I Walk the Line") being a typical proclamation -- was more bark than bite.

ALIEN SEX FIEND - POSSESSED 2018

Possessed is Alien Sex Fiend's first full-length since 2010's Death Trip, and only their third studio album of the 21st century. While they aren't as prolific as they were during the '80s and '90s, their

creative spirit hasn't diminished, and their ghoulish sense of humor remains fully intact. ASF don't always quite get the recognition they deserve, at least beyond the goth and industrial scenes. Perhaps their appearance and playfulness might cause them to be pegged as a novelty act by many, but spend some time delving into their back catalog and it's readily apparent that they've always been a truly forward-thinking, one-of-a-kind group. Nik Fiend still looks and sounds like a Tim Burton character come to life, and his lyrics are still comically grotesque and juvenile, but never harmful or gratuitously morbid.
