NFL
Now a pariah, Staley actually had a lot of defender's here. I wonder where they went?
Some of my favorite comments that were upvoted:
"Yes, and it's annoying that the Chargers hired a coach who pays attention to this kind of thing. I'm used to their coaches doing dumb shit."
"Legitimately my favorite coach in the NFL right now. Playing percentages is vital to long-term success--hope his leash is long enough. Can't praise him when they are successful and then rag on him when they are not. If Ekeler were 100% we wouldn't even be having this conversation (because they would've converted.)'
"I remember being stoked when we hired him, and it's only become clearer that he was a great choice."
"Damn man the Chargers can do no wrong these days. They're on the up and up in a lot of different ways."
"I'm not even a Chargers fan but this guy... he should be coach of the year. The man is a leader."
A few downvoted comments from these threads
"Yeah, no. Real football is what Andy Reid was coaching. He took his points when they counted and won the game. Analytics made Staley look like an asshole who doesn’t believe his kicker"
"Chargers my top choice to disappoint this season. Lots of optimism now but it will fade."
Bonus non Staley related ironically coming from an eagles fan
"Which means Sirianni must be doing well too right?......right?"
This is a topic I’ve thought about for years. The idea that one game could cause the greatest set of ripple effects and change a large chunk of the NFL’s landscape in its aftermath.
The game doesn’t neccessarily need to be a SuperBowl, hell even not a playoff game.
As a 49er fan, the Falcons/Patriots SBLI.
We got Kyle Shanahan out of it and it essentially undid all the work Shanahan and his staff did to help Matt Ryan.
Three of Kyle’s assistant coaches became head coaches after that in due time (McVay, LaFleur, McDaniel).
Dan Quinn was fired 3 years later and currently leads the Cowboy’s Defense (and may take McCarthy’s job if he faulters).
Tom Brady’s playoff Legacy was further cemented with his 5th superbowl.
Bill Belichick’s DC Matt Patricia eventually got a HC gig with Lions, OC Josh McDaniels got a HC gig with the Raiders.
Many assistants and coordinators moved up in the ranks of the NFL’s coaching trees.
The Patriots would win one more SB, the Falcons would make the playoffs once or twice after since.
Edited: Chiefs/Falcons SB Lol
In the earliest days of the league, there were lots of teams who ended up only being part of the league for a single year or maybe just a few, and then folded. Obviously, times have changed. There's a lot more money in the league and behind the teams, which keep them going even when they've had years and years of poor performance. What would it take for a modern team to have to actually fold and exit the league? Is it even a remote possibility at this point?
Congratulations to Troy for being the best WR in Oregon history. Go be great.
For those that don't know Nick Sciba finished his kicking career at Wake Forest in 2021 as the NCAA record holder for highest field goal percentage and never missed an extra point.
He went undrafted in 2022. The steelers picked him up as a one game fill-in that season and he was 2/2 on FGs and 1/1XP
This year he played for the USFL Generals. He was 12/13 on FGs. His lone miss was from 50+ where he finished 2/3 with a long of 56.
College+pro he is 94/104 on FGs and 208/209 on XPs. I do understand he doesn't have the leg for 60 yard field goals, but what range does he need to have before its worth the trade off for his elite accuracy?
News and discussions about the University of Alabama Crimson Tide athletics.
UGA seems to be be losing a bit more than we are used to... maybe it has something to do with the disappointing end of the season, maybe it's NIL related somehow, maybe it's playing time, maybe its other stuff...
But who is your team losing that will hurt the most?
